Who'd have thought 40 years ago that, in 2022, Ferrari would NOT offer a car with a manual transmission....and Cadillac WOULD. Wow.

I like how someone at Cadillac woke up one day and said "hey, there's no Pontiac anymore, let's build one!" Way too many years ago this would have been a GTO.

Umm, they were selling the first gen CTS-Vs (2004-2007ish) at the same time Pontiac was selling GTOs and G8 V8s (2003-2006ish) so there was overlap of the models. CTS-Vs weren't in the same market space.

That hollow rear sway bar does save a lot of weight but they don't work as good as a solid bar. I would not be surprised if the front sway bar is hollow to. My 13 Impala had a hollow front sway bar and my biggest complaint was how the car cornered. So I replaced it with a solid bar and it made all the difference in the world in cornering. Much much better. I am surprised this has a 29 mm sway bar being a 4100 lb car. My Impala has a 31mm bar and it's 3600 lb.

The thing that grinds my gears about GM is that when John Moss was director of product development, there were some killer concept vehicles that were greenlit by GM. However the brass watered the final products down so much that they were unrecognizable and disappointing. Now that they’re getting things right, they’re going away.

No not really. Leaving ICE behind - slowly. But all the great things they've learned about chassis dynamics, steering feel, brakes, etc.. still continues forward. Might just be some years before we have optimal battery density to weight trade-off before a true Blackwing EV can hit the road which is fine by me, I'll just enjoy ICE performance longer.

This is an analog car for the digital age. I don't mean to say it's old-fashioned, but that the designers seem to have paid great attention to how everything looks, sounds and feels to actual humans instead of focusing all the engineering on making it behave like a robot. While there are electric cars that can accelerate quicker, I don't see how any of them can provide the same visceral enjoyment under power as this. Plus those pops and crackles on over-run.
You are right about this being an end of an era, as Cadillac has stated there will be no more all-new ICE powered cars. I don't think that means there won't be any updates to this, the CT4 and their other vehicles, but no major changes like a new engine or major changes to the chassis. I do hope they keep the manual until the end, unlike the Corvette!

Imagine if it was reversed. Then I would imagine you would say nothing stirs the soul like electric. It's so obvious that people love things because it's tied to other core memories that have nothing to do with said thing. Some people like the smell of crappy cologne because it's what their father wore blah blah. Get over it. You'll be long dead before gas powered cars get overtaken by electric. I think nothing stirs the soul like steam.

Hi sarah, couple of questions if I may? Firstly, at what speed do you start the brake test? Secondly, whilst giving it the beans, do you go to the maximum road legal limit or a set speed for every test? Ie 60mph. Just curious. Otherwise, your reviews are great, keep them coming please.

OMG Sarah...another FIVE. You hardly ever do that. But your review shows that this car is worthy of your ratings. Who would have ever thought that Cadillac would build a hot rod with a blown engine and a stick shift? Ahhh...the world we live in. Keep up the great work.

I don’t understand why everyone keeps saying gas powered cars are a thing of the past when we aren’t investing in our failing electrical grids or the lack of renewable energy to sustain grids to power these vehicles cheaply.

Europe has outlawed the sale of new internal combustion engine (ICE) cars starting in 2035.
California, the largest market for cars in the US, has done likewise. Automobile manufacturers are not designing new internal combustion engines. The Porsche Boxter and Cayman will no longer be ICE cars after this generation, but electric. FYI, the "ultimate" Cayman, the Cayman GT3 RS, is selling for up to *double* Its not insubstantial MSRP, as gasoline engines are going away. The current generation of Cadillacs is the last generation of their ICE sedans. They've said so.
Internal combustion engine cars are not being outlawed, just the sale of new ones. It will be 15 or more years before they're mostly gone, so after 2050.
Cars were originally a plaything of the rich, and there were gasoline powered cars before there were gasoline stations around the country. Modern EVs started off as play things for the rich. They are slowly moving down market, like the original ICE cars, and the EV charging network is beginning to be built out.
The gasoline supply system was demand driven and built for profit, as I imagine the EV system will, perhaps w/tax breaks like the petroleum industry.
This has happened before. Before ICE cars, there were horses. Transportation for "everyman."
There still are, but now they're mostly playthings for the rich, as will ICE cars, transpotation for "everyman," be in 50 or 75 years.

You have the beans score but I would like you to rate the rumble score. That almost indescribable feeling you get from just raw combustion based horse power. Not the torque or speed but almost sensing the power potential.

It’s a crying shame that this car and cars like it are in fact, the last we’ll ever see rolling off any assembly line. Not to mention GM deciding to pull the plug on the C8 Zo6. My heart actually hurts and and a hole will remain in it forever more 😕
