It's basically about a relationship that was essentially not good for either of them. He was trying to wait for this person for however long it would take at the beginning. When he says he is slow dancing in the dark, his explanation was as if he was walking around and lost, don't follow him or you will be lost as well. It won't benefit either of you if you don't know what you want out of a relationship. You'll be lost together. But they were moving on and finding someone new after you were together, which made him doubt himself like when you compare yourself to someone who is with someone you like. The example Joji gave was: if you see a photo of Ariana Grande with Pete Davidson and you say, well, I can't compete with him because you are with that person now instead of me for a reason, no wonder she is with him and not me.
He wished he could spend more time with that person, even if it was just a night but ultimately knows that the situation wouldn't improve.

Here's some basic and simplified Greek/Roman mythology for you. It will help you understand the symbols used in the video.
A Satyr is a half man half goat hornbag servant of Dionysus/Bacchus, the god of grapevines, wine, debauchery, and fertility.
The other piece of mythology needed(that you touched upon) is the whole deal with Eros/Cupid. He has two types of arrows. Blunt, round headed ones that make you repulsed towards the person and sharp, barbed ones that make you fall insanely in love with the person. If you get hit with the round one, it won't hurt you, but if you get stuck with the barbed one, you can't remove it. The only way to get rid of it is to make it fall out by acting on the actual, deep love you feel for the person he wants you to fall for. He sometimes was a bit of a donkey and hit one person with one and the other with the other, just to see the love arrow person struggle hopelessly and inevitably bleed out by morning on the next day.
If a Satyr finds a victim, it simply has to have adult fun times with the person. That's their nature. If they do, though, they lose all interest afterwards. They get one night stands. That's it. In some versions of the myth, the human doesn't even survive a night with a Satyr.
Now here's a Satyr hit with a sharp arrow. Not just attracted to the person. Deeply, truly in love with them. Knowing it would lead nowhere. It would only harm the person the Satyr loves. Choosing its own suffering over their loved ones potential pain.

I was once the woman and felt the same but am the opposite of a satyr. I needed someone who cuuld be faithful. The agony was broken down to manageable when I left the continent with no way to connect. I hate remembering these feelings but jojo has created an irrisistable masterpiece. SAVED to my playlist.
