      I have mainly carpet , with laminate in the two bathrooms and kitchen. I’m debating on the v11 absolute with the soft roller or the v11 torque drive. I did consider the v10 but like the new screen. We have no pets. Would appreciate any help on which version to get. Thank you

      @@leighbarrett6797 Hey Leigh! Sorry that your comment slipped by me.
      Since you have mainly carpet you can probably save the money over the Absolute and just go with the V11 Torque Drive model. It's plenty good on hard surfaces, and with laminate the risk of damage is far less that of hardwood. I'd go with Torque Drive.

      Wait Dyson didn't say the V11 Outsize was meant for bigger homes, did they?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety

      @@reianae.smiley8573 That was my analysis based on the specs and features of the vacuum. Dyson says that it's designed for "faster room cleaning" (Dyson.com).
      A cordless vacuum that can run for 2 hours, has a larger dust bin, and larger cleaning head is far better suited to cleaning a larger home than a cordless vacuum with lower end specs. Not to say the Outsize couldn't clean small homes as well, but in my view it would be overkill.

    Good comparison. As a professional vacuum service technician, I would only add that the V7 and V8 models do have a maintenance advantage over the V10 and higher models.
    The perpendicular cyclones can be completely removed and washed on the V7 and V8. This can NOT be done with inline models because the electrical connections pass through the cyclone. As a result, the models that can not be washed are less efficient over time because they will partially clog. To clean them your only option is to gently tap on the side of the cyclone to shake all of the dirt out of them (or blow them out with compressed air).
    However, on the V7/V8 Dyson designed the cyclone to be easily removed and it can be completely submerged in a bucket of soapy water for a thorough cleaning!
    I've also seen enough problems on the units with the digital display to say that I currently do not recommend them at the high price point. once they are out of warranty you could get stuck with something that is prohibitively expensive to repair. IMO the V7 and V8 are the best Dyson Models for price and long term maintenance.

    In the UK, there is usually another model for each vacuum called the total clean. It is one of the top end models in that it tends to include the most tools in the range (not necessarily the same tools from other models in the range though) and the vacuum itself comes with a red wand. I was getting a refurbished Dyson cordless and it was either between spending slightly more for the V8 total clean or saving a bit and getting the basic V10 animal. I went for the V8 total clean as it had such a great range of tools like the direct drive motor head, fluffy cleaner head, crevice tool, combo tool, flexi-crevice tool, a multi-angle attachment and the mini motorised tool.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah, some retailers here in the US sell the Total Clean version as well. However, the Total Clean models I've seen here in the US (specifically the V10) include the older Direct Drive brushroll, as opposed to the Torque Drive brush.
      So while you do get additional accessories you give up a much more important piece of the vacuum, with the more powerful brushroll.

    Can't believe I still have the pink v6 I got 6 years ago on Black Friday for $199!
    On normal power, the duration is just the same, but max power is now reduced to less than a minute instead of 5 minutes.
    Really the only things I would get next time are a HEPA filter exhaust + soft roller head + the debris ejection of the v10/11. It's nice to have a larger bin but 90% of the house is hardwood floors.

    I have the V11 Total clean. The power head says High Torque the stick is black. I got it from Costco just last week. I have not been able to find a review online of this exact model. I assume it's the same as the V11 torque drive. It has the display with the remaining charge time on it for Eco, Auto and Boost modes. So far I love it. It makes cleaning so much more enjoyable.

      If the V11 Total Clean is anything like the V10 Total Clean, then it's basically identical in functionally to the Torque Drive. The cleaning head may be slightly different (on the V10 Total Clean the cleaning head didn't have the height adjuster).

    Derek - thanks for the very informative videos. I like the cordless stick vacs, but my electrical outlets are very low to the floor in the baseboards. How much space does the plug-in device require? Not sure I want to invest in an electrician to install a new outlet. Considering the ball canister as an alternative, but how good is it on upholstery?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety +1

      You're very welcome!
      The plug is about 3" wide by 1.5" tall, so it doesn't take up much space at all. Then it's just a cord to a pin connector that plugs into the vacuum. I wouldn't think you would need a new outlet.
      Ball Canister is solid everywhere, including upholstery. See our review here - czcams.com/video/LNCbJFWeo0M/video.html

    Awesome video, quick, no nonsense, straight to the points. My deal here is all hardwood and tile (no carpet) with 2 cats and 2 dogs. Which one is best? And do any of these have removeable roller heads for easier cleaning? Do you really even need the roller if you don't have carpet? Getting the pet hair out of the roller each time you use it is annoying. Thanks in advance.

    • @ModernCastle

      1. V11 is objectively the best in terms of performance, suction, and run time. If money is no object get the V11 and add this amzn.to/3r1mJxO If you want to save a little money get the V10 Absolute.
      2. The roller does remove from the wand, but disassembling it from the head itself is more difficult. However, the soft roller heads do disassemble more easily and can be cleaned with water.
      3. Since you don't have carpet you'll probably just want to use one of the fluffy soft cleaning heads most of the time

    I recently purchased a V8 Carbon Fiber online. It has the same 40 minutes of run time as the other V8 models, but has 155 air watts of suction on max mode. It also came with both cleaning heads, the mini motorized tool, just about every non-motorized tool made for the V series, and even a storage bag for all of the tools. I find it odd that this specific model was never sold in the United States. Though I was told that it was probably due to both the V8 Carbon Fiber and the V10 models being released in 2018.

      @@ModernCastle I just checked this morning and saw them advertising also became available in Canada (Canadian Tire) with incorrect photos and description. Looks like it is a future replacement of the current V11 Torque Drive with the Fluffy Head attachment. looks like it is becoming available in countries that the Absolute model are sold first. I can see it become available in US to replace the current V11 Torque Drive since it is extra revenue for Dyson to sell extra batteries to owners would want/need to purchase them $$$. Feature looks the same as the V11 Torque Drive but a little bit heaver (3.09Kg vs 2.97Kg) I think is due to the extra parts for the interchangeable battery design. The name of the motor is also different (Hyperdymium Motor vs Digital Motor) but the picture looks the same online. The current information from Dyson Australia website does not mention the 20% extra power on the new V11 Absolute Extra so maybe it was a typo in the presentation ;however, all V11 model without interchangeable battery are no longer listed (discontinued?). Without the extra 20% suction power, I would just get the new Outsize and not the Extra model even though it is heaver. Future owner would have the benefit of getting the new V11 with lighter and smaller bin & power head at lighter weight.

      Modern Castle just went to Costco Canada yesterday and saw they had the V11 Total Clean which comes with one interchangeable battery. It was not advertised on the packaging itself however I saw the photo of the unit and saw the battery has with a little red latch on it and knew that it was a newer model. I packed up my original V11 and exchanged it with the new one. As far as I can tell everything is the same except the charging mount is different and is not compatible with the original V11. I think Dyson is quietly swapping with the newer design unit into newer packaging and not making a big deal out of it so people would not be returning them and end up with a bunch of old models on hand.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 4 lety

      @@Jeo-What It's possible, George. But I'm not certain.
      When you look at the totality of Dyson's models across the world it really is staggering...just within the V-series you have the 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11. Then multiple flagship models within each of those (2-4). And then different variants for depending on your country. And then different variants for specific retailers.
      Costco Canada's version may have a special country / retailer variant that does indeed include clickable batteries for all V11 models. But given how widespread Dyson's model lineup is I think it's likely that it varies from country to country and from retailer to retailer.

    Thanks for this useful review of the various dyson V series. I have a question about the direct drive cleaner head (that comes with most models) and the soft roller cleaner head that comes with the Absolute model. since I have both hard floors and rugs I'm wondering how much more effective is the soft roller compared to the direct drive. In looking at models Dyson is offering a V8 Absolute Pro for $425 while I can get a V10 Total Clean+ at Costco for $400 but without the soft roller cleaner head and a few less other attachments. So it's not exactly easy to figure out what the best solution at that price range. thanks for any info you can provide.

      The soft roller head does make a big difference on hard surface flooring.
      In general, I think if 30-40% or more of the floors in your home are hardwood or other hard surfaces then it makes sense to get a version with the soft roller head. Or buy a standalone soft roller head here - amzn.to/38CO5RE

      All of them can be replaced.
      The more recent V10 and V11 seems to have longer lifespans. Dyson's Founder was quoted saying that the V10 battery should last the life of the unit (15 years). Dyson's V11 uses the same type of battery. So no reason to think either of them would die quickly.
      The V6, V7, and V8 do seem to die earlier. Based on our tests and what we've read from other's experiences they tend to last 3-5 years before needing replacement.

That cleaner has just given up the ghost and I am trying to understand which to buy , I customer reviews there have been frequent comments about parts I think rollers or brushes not working well for long. I also wonder how much agility is required to hold the trigger constantly as I have a hand injury.

    • @ModernCastle

      The higher end models definitely have better overall performance and usability, but of course cost more.
      In terms of the agility required to hold the trigger down, it's not much. Less than a pound of pressure I would estimate. For most you just sort of grab the handle and you hold the trigger down at the same time.
      For most users I think the V10 or V11 is the best choice. Not to say the others are bad, but considering the relative price difference vs. performance difference, it makes a strong case to at least get a V10 Animal.
      My top 3 picks for most are the V10 Animal, V10 Absolute, of the V11 Torque Drive.

    I'm doing research into the Dyson V Series vacuums as I'm looking to make an upgrade, but one question that doesn't seem to be answered for me so far is this: Can you purchase any of the tools that the other models have and use them on a different model? For example, could I buy the fluffy cleaner head and use it on a model that didn't include it?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  Před 3 lety

      In general, yes, though Dyson doesn't seem to like it and typically says attachments are not cross compatible.
      However, that's not really true, in my view.
      This page explains it in great detail = moderncastle.com/dyson-attachment-guide/
      In a nut shell...V6 and older models are not cross compatible
      V7, V8, V10, V11, and V15 are cross compatible. However, you should try to find attachments that are closer in number, as that means they are also closer in power input required. For example, while a V15 cleaning head would technically work on a V7, a V7 motor doesn't have enough power to run it properly. So there's a good chance either the head or motor body will die sooner due to the increased strain.
      However, as long as you're within 1 or 2 V-series numbers the attachments will work and should be sufficient power.

      Cordless vacuums are more expensive, have less suction power (especially in less expensive models; however, high-end cordless vacuums have comparable suction power), have variable suction, and are more convenient to use

    Is the V7 animal worth it for $239 price tag? I need for animal hair/Kitty litter on vinyl flooring.

      It's among the least expensive Dyson cordless stick vacuums. I think you'd be really pleased with it for the price.

    in your opinion can Dyson V11 replace Dyson canister vacuum?

      For many people, I think the answer is yes.
      And Dyson seems to think so as well.
      Dyson's Founder, James Dyson, has already said the Dyson V10 was the leap in cordless vacuum technology that allowed them to stop developing new corded vacuums. Dyson seems to be in a push to do only (or at least mostly) cordless vacuums from now on.
      Given the suction power and run time it has massively reduced the former advantage that corded vacuums had.
