    I’m 60, and arthritis makes the jumping too painful. But I’m right there with you on the stretching. I’m infinitely more flexible than I was ten years ago. I’m getting a lot of great stuff on this channel

    • @elijahrusso5403
      @elijahrusso5403 Před 2 lety +3

      The Kneesovertoesguy channel is a good one for watch muscles to workout for jumping (as well as general longevity).

    • @gravestonemyth
      @gravestonemyth Před 2 lety +4

      @@elijahrusso5403 Thanks, Elijah. I just subscribed. I started doing deep squats a month or so ago, and sissy squats (thanks Lisa Chaves) two weeks ago. The difference is already tremendous. I really believe I can fix my knees.

    • @saraev1119
      @saraev1119 Před 2 lety +6

      @@gravestonemyth You can definitely fix your knees by strengthening all the muscles around the knee caps to keep everything in place and less likely to slide around and cause pain, sissy squats are DEFINITELY going to help it.
      I always get so excited when I find people who are seeing bigger benefits than just the muscle gain and confidence improvement, it's the HEALING part for some of us. I used to have HORRENDOUS posture with a big cervical hump. Well, I started working on holding my good posture WHILE lifting weights, and it tremendously changed the shape of my neck and back, it even defined my jawline. The best part, no more neck pain or back aches when I did this.
      Too bad covid had to eff it all up, now I'm starting over, at around 50% progress on my posture correction, and it somehow seems harder to do.

    • @gravestonemyth
      @gravestonemyth Před 2 lety +5

      @@saraev1119 Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve been doing sissy and Hindu squats for the past 8 weeks and the difference is tremendous. No knee pain whatsoever. I have FAI arthritis in my left hip so running and jumping are not happening anytime soon. But daily yoga and calisthenics make me feel 20 years younger. It’s unbelievable!

    • @saraev1119
      @saraev1119 Před 2 lety +1

      @@gravestonemyth Wow, see that's amazing! Imagine how many ailments can be fixed with exercising? It can even cure depression and anxiety in people. I wish physical exercise was still prescribed by doctors instead of, "heres this medicine to fix that diabetes you have as a direct result from being morbidly obese, oh and the heart problems, heres your monthly prescription", instead of trying the natural approach of taking steps to reach the goal of a healthy lifestyle to completely eradicate those things all together, you know?
      Anyways! I just noticed your post is 4 months old so you must be basking in the glory of muscular legs aside from now being pain free.😊 awesome!

    Hey, I just want to say: yes, you are so right. I tried so many things to get rid of my hip/back/leg pain.... For two weeks I tried your training with the stretch where the foot presses against the wall (min 00:25) ... and now the pain is gone. The things I tried before were quite similar, but never that intense. The intensity of the stretch did the job, so, let me say: Thank you!!! But one thing: I had a professional check my problem and he said that it was in my left leg(from too much sitting) so I knew what stretch I was looking for.

    If I may add to this, I've found progress in flexibility by specifying my flexibility training to my actual strength goals. For example, when I was trying to achieve a pike pushup. I know for a lot of folks that's the level 1 progression for the over head body weight press, but for me it was been like level 4. I'm 6ft11 and was over 360 pounds when I started working out seriously and consistently about 2 years ago. Apart from the fact that I just COULDN'T press my body weight over head, no matter how hard I tried or how easy I made the leverage (I was literally overhead pressing almost horizontally, like off the edge of a kitchen kitchen counter or table), I didn't have the hamstring flexibility to even touch my toes... Hell to even do a downward dog... So how am I gonna do a pike push up, so... You watch videos and routines for hamstring flexibility. And just like that, you've started your flexibility journey. Second example was the same thing, Deep squat. Had a really hard time getting into a deep hunter gatherer, primal squat. So I started working on hip and ankle flexibility and mobility... So what's my ultimate point? Rather than just trying to do all the stretches all the time, think about your LARGER fitness goals. This will allow you to target your searches. So you don't feel lost and overwhelmed by all the information out there. My day job a 3d/CGI digital artist, animator and illustrator, and this is exactly how I learned all the software I've been using on a professional level for years. I had a goal, a final emd goal, say a particular image, with a particular character, in a particular environment, etc, and I would try to achieve that specific goal, and google the specific problems that came up as I went along a specific path. But if I was just like "how to learn ______" I'd be overwhelmed with the plethora of information and tutorials and methods and techniques.

      This comment is a goldmine. My personal experience completely seconds this.
      I legit came here to find what things I need to switch up in my body too.
      Example being born with underdeveloped Psoas; my major hip muscle groups were born tight and weak and sumo squats absolutely kill me without any weight.
      I focus more backward bridges, crab walks, things that open the front of my hips where it is worst all the time.

    Thankyou for these videos. I’ve always done stretches. But after a bout of Long Covid every time I stretched I’d burst into tears with what I can only explain as “poison” (like a snake bite and no I’ve never had one of those Hahahaha) and a lot of lower extremities pain in ligaments and joints. Very odd feeling for someone who has been very flexible then not be able to do the “norm”.
    No that I feel the “poison” (virus) has going/gone out of my system these videos are helping motivate me to do those stretches again as I feel even less than a beginner. Thankyou so much for your motivation it really does help. One thing to be thankful for with covid......CZcams videos became a lot more, our world community became closer and people like me that are “healing” can have your beautiful instruction along with access to sooooo much beauty through community.
