“What the fuck was that?”
“That’s numberwang!”
Sadly missing the subtleties of the German numberwang sketch.
Now let’s rotate the board - it’s wanganumb
@@paulmurgatroyd6372 “Das ist Nümberwang!”
I studied mathematics at university - I and some friends used to prove theorems with "That's numberwang" instead of writing QED at the end
“Mornington Crescent” 😂
If you know, you know!
I'm sorry, no diagonals allowed when playing the colonial variation.
Mornington Croissant was better.
Don't over expose him, let him get used to this before ISIHAC.
Now for the rest of your life you have to randomly shout "THAT'S NUMBERWANG!" when people say numbers, like the rest of us.
Perfect!
I thought that was just me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Literally what I shout to my wife when the cooker timer goes off and dinner's ready
The whole Numberwang saga is mental.
It gets insane.
It's nothing compared to The Event.
@@wallythewondercorncake8657 The Event arguable one of the best running gags.
@@wallythewondercorncake8657 WE DONT MENTION THE EVENT! (but isn't there a some crossover between the two at some point in the show?, i can't remember)
@@Mr_Bimble Don't think so. Probably just getting your wires crossed because both gags have a game show format
Numberwang kinda started as a skit about a lot of 80s & 90/ contests on UK tv where many of the rules seemed to make no sense. Very quickly became its own referencing thing as they did more skits of the show.
Perfectly described .
*sketches :)
Golden Balls is a great example of an extremely complex British Game Show, and it aired in the 2000's and 2010's.
I have hideous flashbacks to 3-2-1.
@@paulmurgatroyd6372 hahah- yes!!!! No one ever understood that - brilliant !
"Julie you're ahead on 77 Simon you trail on 83"
Which of course makes sense now with 'Pointless'
This is in the style of a game called "Mornington Crescent", a round on the radio comedy panel show "I'm Sorry, I haven't Clue", around since the 1970s.
Yes, they are nonsensical spoofs of gameshows.
On Mornington Crescent they take it in turns to name London Underground stations, occasionally protesting each other's answers by referring to complicated rules which they are making up on the spot. It's all very silly, but quite funny in a British sort of way.
ISIHAC is *fantastic*. RIP Humphrey Lyttelton, the original chairman - nobody could say savagely innuendo-laden things as well as Humph.
"The master of the game was, of course, Lionel Blair..."
Just wait till you deep dive into Numberwang lore - not just to see the international versions (in the American they just say: "Yes! That Is A Number!" - you also find out about the robot built to determine whether something was in-fact Numberwang... I won't spoil it it, but lets just say, it doesn't end well.
Not the petrol/cheese robot I hope..
That Mitchell & Webb Look was so hilarious! I binged the whole series during the 2020 lockdown and it is still so funny after all those years.
It's basically a numbers-based version of Mornington Crescent, but using the Rev. A.W. Hibbert's "Black Diagonals" ruling of 1924.
With the colonial variation.
@@patrickmaloney6440 Primes are allowed but perfect numbers must be split.
No explanation is needed - just watch some more Numberwang!

Do “The Event” (also from Mitchel and Webb)
don't think of the event!
(stay indoors)
@@CyberBeep_kenshiHits different post Covid!
Numberwang is brilliant in small doses, and gets crazier each episode.
And that's NUMBERWANG!!
By Vectron, so it is!!
You need to check out the "history of Numberwang" next.
Back in 2006 or so I was playing at a 24 hour Airsoft event at an Army camp in Wales. (Senneybridge.) At one point one of the guys kept fluffing up building numbers over the radio After he got it wrong about 5 times in succession, someone else piped up on the circuit: "That's Numberwang!" (That same trip, one guy got injured and needed a medevac flight. As the helo arrived someone played "Ride of the Valkyries over comms)
You should look at a compilation of their sketch, "The quiz broadcast". Love the channel and Stay Indoors.
"They haven't got in yet."
"Yes, they have..."
The Quiz Broadcast is probably the best of Mitchell and Webb, by Vectron's Kindly Claw!
Those sketches are so dark but hilarious!
Don't think about The Event!
SO that's what its called.
When he said 14 / 12 that's not numberwang this game was using Derbyshire Huff variation rather than the Even numbers are wild rules.
Now you are drifting into Mornington Crescent territory.
I preferred it when they allowed cube roots.
I think the source of the two games are quite similar, except one uses bus numbers and the other uses Tube stops.
Avocado Bathrrom is my favourite sketch
THAT'S NUMBERWANG!
There’s some gold sketches on that show:
Get Me Hennimore
Big Talk
Angel Summoner And The BMX Bandit
Vectron
And many others 😀
I haven't seen a reaction yet to "Big Talk" but I love that one.
I really want to see a reaction to the earlier show they did "Mitchell and Webb Situation" - maybe the milk/poison sketch.
Also the librarian date sketch
By Vectron he shall react !!!!!
@@yzolakitchi let's just leave the vectron stuff for the moment because Tim had a question
Actually it was Pete who questioned the Vectron religion. Apologies by Vectron's kindly claw
FOR VECTRON!
Check out Mitchell n Webb look “the boy with an arse for a face”
Instead of a face, he’s just got another arse.
But that was stolen from the comic book Preacher, who had a character called Arseface first.
I'm pretty sure there's a video on CZcams that has every Numberwang segment in one place, I'd recommend that for the full Numberwang experience 😂
Your confusion made my Bank Holiday Weekend 😂 Especially knowing there's no explanation to it.
This is kind of reminiscent of (I won’t say “stolen from” 😝) Adam and Joe’s ‘Quizzlestick’ skits where they did basically the same thing but with real people thinking they’re on a real game show. A&J’s is more of a prank, though, so they are different beasts (and I think they have said they hadn’t seen ‘Quizzlesticks’ when they wrote this).
Paterson Joseph is a brilliant actor who can also do comedy.
I stumbled across a late night quiz show, it was basically Numberwang. I had no idea what was going on but suddenly, I understood.
That was great, Mr Darcy dancing would because good follow up. I'd also like to see some Fast Show reactions, Jazz Club in particular!!! And also the Armstrong and Miller piano clips...
Classic Numberwang!
Aficionados of Numberwang will correct me, but by Vectron's kindly claw I believe the concept is based on a classic English panel game called Mornington Crescent, which I happen to be very good at if anyone fancies a game (for preference I play Stanmore rules, with the Ruislip Variation on northerly junctions)

It all goes back to the WW2 era when English scientists used Numberwang principles to Wangernum (German for decode) the Mysterion codex.
More of this show please :D There are some seriously funny sketches in there. Numberwang is obviously on the senseless side of the series but it weirdly grows on you.
After you've finished Numberwang, you have to do, "The Event"! Another classic series of sketches. :)
Afternoon tv gameshows in the UK are just like this....try Going For Gold, Pointless, Blankety Blank etc
David Mitchell always gets reminded of this when he goes on "8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown", because it was very much a parody of Countdown. If you're loved this and are prepared to delve into the world of radio, you should try an episode of "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue", which is billed as the antidote to panel game shows. It has some genuine games and some bits that are similar to Numberwang - including the famous game of Mornington Crescent.
You should definitely watch all the Numberwang sketches, in chronological order, they get more ad more batshit. It's epic.
Do 'The hole in the ring', 'Mrs clause has an affair' and 'The green claranet' please!
The spoof snooker documentary featuring Ted and Peter would be a good watch. '....is it my go now?'
or one of the secret agent/Dr Evil parodies
You need to watch Gavin and Stacey , classic feel good British comedy and hilariously funny. And after years of waiting the final episode is out this Christmas.
Considering how much you like your history KB, you’ll like their “Are we the baddies?” sketch. And the Explorers sketch too 👍🏼
I have to admit, as a maths doofus, this is exactly how I feel when I watch the number sum round on 'Countdown!'
Numberwang is how the government comes up with its budget.
Still love the Sir Digby Chicken Caesar sketches, top of my list. Also the garden centre "tribe" who hide in the shrubs.
It’s when you watch a new game show on in the afternoon . You watch it and have no idea of the rules. All the contestants and host understand it but as a casual viewer you haven’t a scooby doo what’s going on . Brilliant !
I will explain Numberwang! for you. Any whole number or fraction can be Numberwang, the others are not. However, numbers that are Numberwang can also not be Numberwang and Vive versa. Of course this all changes with Wangernumb, or perhaps not
I hope that makes the rules much clearer for you.
π or 🥮?
Sounds pointless to me.......
I think this might be my favourite reaction video of yours. The complete WTF-ness is gold!
WTF is Wangernum!
I don’t think my husband goes a day without saying “that’s numberwang 🎉”
Can you imagine any producers in the USA commissioning that? I've just been on a cruise ship where one TV channel only played USA programs. All I can say is:- it's no wonder that so many of you guys choose to react to British comedy.
This all a little taken from Adam And Joe's Quizzlesticks I think. Check out Adam and Joe. (you know Adam).
King Boomer: What the fuck was that?
Me: That's Numberwang!
Yeah❤! I love it, great chloise!
I prefer Wangernum to Numberwang because the game is more subtle so the contestants have to use clever tactics. 43, 27, 200, 3, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 ,1 ,1 is such a good example of this.
There's a few numberwang sketches. I love it. That's deathwang!
Good lord, it took a minute and a half before we got to the part we wanted to see.
Wow, first he tries to understand cricket and now numberwang?
I mean 1 of these is easy to understand. But cricket? No way
Frankly he's doomed...
You're gonna love Green Wing.
Oh, I'm so happy.
That intro is something else! Lool
My teenage years in the sixties, Monty Python, Swedish MAD etc... Swedish and British humor harmonize like Apartheid and Great Britain in that 'sick' way.
This reminds me of the UK Government working out the finances for the Rwanda deal
The Numberwang story is a great saga.
After this you should check out the spoof quiz/game show “Don’t Be Dirty” by Fry & Laurie.
Yes that’s Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.
More Numberwang please! It gets better and crazier with each
You need to watch all the Numberwang sketches now.
That is quintessential British humour, Americans, spelt with a 'U.'
If you had any idea, what the fuck happened there, I'd be seriously worried.
The “remain indoors” sketches were great. Check them out!
I don't know if he has seen the "The Quiz Broadcast" that M&W did...
Ahh you're stepping into the Wang-verse
That’s Numberwang!
What the fuck was that?
that's NUMBERWANG! :D
Angel Summoner and Cheesoid are belters by Mitchell and Webb
the harry enfueld and paul spoofs on Dragon's den are also awesome
You are wearing a number 7, "that's NUMBERWANG"! Fkn hilarious!
The Numberwang compilation is a must. 🤣
The lady with the paper bag over her head (Peep Show's Sophie) is now one of the UK's best known actors. She won an Oscar in 2019 and her acceptance speech is worth checking out.

For the series of That Mitchell and Webb Look that this is from there was one of these. You could follow them in order to see the evolution
Rachel Riley is Numberwang!
Do Armstrong & Miller's WWII airmen sketches please.
Yes! And the Crazy Paving one!
Even to this day there are people who don’t understand when you tell them “That’s Numberwang” but we still try.
There are several of these sketches.
Yep.
Love this in work anyone says a number we shout numberwang and only 3 people get it cause we are old as Simon from space
No finance meeting at work is complete without someone mentioning Numberwang.
You need to watch a few episodes of Shooting Stars, with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, if you want to see a quiz show that makes no sense but is utterly hysterical 😊😊
Yup.
£12.67 on cheque! 😂😂. Yes it was a piss take of game shows. 😂
basically like every round of the real Shooting Stars from vic and bob
YES BOOMER. safe for the shoutout
I've been waiting for you to react to this for about 365 numberwang days. That's wangernum
It's funnier when you watch the compilation of all the numberwang clips.
The rules are quite complicated, it’s a bit like cricket 😂
What about 'Game for a laugh' from Not the nine o'clock news
Oh my sweet KB - Of course, it's utterly, utterly demented. I think you get it though! Worth watching more of it, it only gets more muppety!
KB bear in mind you achieve numberwang by eliminating your opponents odd numbers and by carrying the decimal point back in time on your patella. (If the 7 divisible wang numbers are clear).
A parody of all those inane game shows with non-sensical rules, that only exist to fill 25 minutes of the afternoon as a vehicle for Ads.
Giles? That’s Numberwank!
The whole Numberwang segment is incredible
"WTF was that?!??"
That's Numberwang.
