I don't know why this is just getting in my recommended but as somebody who grew up going to the Minnesota State Fair! I can confirm many people eat at least one bucket a day or more. They are the most addicting cookies in the world. They even sell the dough at a grocery store so you can have the cookies year round.

*He* needs approximately 2500 calories to maintain energy for being awake. If he's working for many hours, he will need about 3000 calories to maintain his energy. And of course if he is an athlete or into a hobby where he's being physical for a length of time, he'll need a little more.
It wouldn't hurt him to cut back to half of his intake. A bucket and a half does exceed his daily recommended caloric intake.

So many ingredients in our foods we "Enjoy" are derived from something toxic, poisonous, or inedible. As someone who lives in Minnesota, it's insane how many people buy these cookies every year. I haven't bought any myself in years because in most cases you can just steal some from a friend or find an abandoned bucket or three. Last year my family picked up 4 buckets of Sweet Martha's off of benches during the course of our state fair run. It's really hard to finish a bucket all by yourself but most people buy one anyway.
