I feel so lucky to be able to see & hear these little nuggets of gold .Thank you for the live music.Please,Rock-N-Roll For evermore.Thank You Chuck Berry, you are the King of R-N-Roll..
Since first hearing Chuck Berry as a teen in the fifties I have always been a fan. I love his guitar playing and the songs he wrote. We miss you Chuck. I am now reading new biography on his life now.
nobody rocked like chuck berry...NOBODY...his stuff is timeless...he moves me today just like he did in the 50s...like john lennon said, "if there hadn't been a chuck berry, there wouldn't have been the beatles"...
honestly i believe he was already starting to slow down mentally here. he always physically looked good but his mental decline started relatively early.
There will NEVER be another Chuck Berry. He really was something. I own my Cherry ES 335 because of Chuck. Aside from being so much fun to play, it's such a versatile axe too.
Got to agree. He was always so far ahead of the rest of the band and almost teasing them to keep up with him and his impros. Never got too far ahead, but just enough to keep a certain tension and, hey, I'm the boss, just follow me and I'll teach you a thing or two.
Chuck didn't like lipsych performances ,even though he did them on Bandstand and other venues. He liked improvised live shows. He could change things around instead of just doing the same old things but even at lipsyched shows he often broke away and did the moves different. One of his best examples of this is in American Hot Wax when he does Reeling and Rocking..
Chuck used to perform at Blueberry Hill Club & Restaurant in St. Louis the First Wednesday of every month - had the pleasure of getting his autograph, shaking his hand and getting the pick he used to play his guitar. A Rock N Roll Master that is missed by all.
John Lennon once said something like that: "If you had to rename Rock ’n’ Roll, I would call him "Chuck Berry" in the future"...so true...(A German who loves this guy🖤🎸🎼🎤)
Gracias a canciones como "Maybellene" (1955), "Roll Over Beethoven" (1956), "Rock and Roll Music" (1957) y "Johnny B. Goode" (1958), Berry redefinió los elementos del rhythm and blues.
He willed that entire performance to do whatever he liked. It is forgotten that true rock n roll is based on that off the cuff, seat of your pants, flash in the pan improvisational moment and no one mastered it like Chuck Berry.
Its so amazing the influence this guy had on so many future rock and roll stars including Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, and Angus Young of AC DC.
Roll over Chuck Berry and tell John Lennon the news. When I say "No meat suit required", I mean an artist like Chuck Berry didn't need gimmicks to sell his music. Aside from his duck walk this guy could play, write and sing. He was rock and roll. Chuck Berry inspired millions of kids to learn to play guitar. Many of these kids became stars like John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Ted Nugent, Kieth Richards and others. What will the kids who listen to lady Gaga and Justing Beiber aspire to be from listening to their music?
Usually these performances are limited to the quality of the band playing with him but here they are very tight and you get the real live sound so unusual on tv even now - it is so good here.
Unless you play guitar you don’t truly understand this guy’s talent. One example, he’s playing little queenie in G it appears which means he’s making a stretch to play on those large frets. But he’s doing it with ease. Helps to have large hands.
Not a guitar expert, but always fascinated with his fretwork, especially the use of his small finger (little pinky I think you guys say, (although maybe a little browny in his case)). As you say, helps to have large hands! Alot of other singer/guitarists do the very basic chords only. He was the best!
@@clayauslewis4236 the guy was something else. Btw, for much of his career he played gigs like this - just showed up solo without a band. The bookers would have to provide his backing band and pay chuck separately. There’s a few videos of him doing this on CZcams. And there’s at least one of him getting into an argument with Keith Richards over chuck jumping on a band member for touching his amp. Just search Keith Richards and chuck berry argument.
The real king of Rock and and Roll
If he had been British he would be Sir Chuck Berry.

RIP Chuck Berry "The True King of Rock 'n' Roll
As far as I'm concerned, yeah 👍.
Absolutely agree. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was the Godmother…
Little richard said he was too ha ha, but when Elvis was in the mood he was very special. All legends 👍
Why isn't Chuck Berry the "king of rock 'n' roll"? The reason is: all the singers that recorded his songs did it better than him.
I love how Chuck gave respect to the band and you can tell they loved to rock! Great performance!
Since first hearing Chuck Berry as a teen in the fifties I have always been a fan. I love his guitar playing and the songs he wrote. We miss you Chuck. I am now reading new biography on his life now.

There will NEVER be another Chuck Berry. He really was something. I own my Cherry ES 335 because of Chuck. Aside from being so much fun to play, it's such a versatile axe too.
Two acts that never thought of playing a ballad: Chuck Berry and AC/DC. There is a direct line between the two. Straight ahead loud rock and roll.
John Stodalka
Look up Havana Moon, Wee Wee Hours, Mean old world or Together by Chuck. Ballads. Well, blues ballads.
2 different
Concepts ! Selling dance beats to young white folks,
Or, Idolize Satan ?
Jeez ,

One of the reasons Carson was the best, acts like Chuck Berry. I was overseas then in the Navy, missed it all, thanks. Chuck was a natural performer.
His improvisational skills are amazing.. Every performance of his songs has some twist to it.. Amazing stage presence..
I first saw him in '76 in Liverpool UK . What a guy ! He had that Elvis presence going on ....... Mick Jagger is the last one standing.
Got to agree. He was always so far ahead of the rest of the band and almost teasing them to keep up with him and his impros. Never got too far ahead, but just enough to keep a certain tension and, hey, I'm the boss, just follow me and I'll teach you a thing or two.

Don’t forget The Beatles, especially Lennon and Harrison. Chuck Berry was way ahead of his time.
