Yup.Hot band.This was the Roxy and the music director of this band had their pick of the best hired gun's in town.You bet they rehearsed ahead of Chuck's arrival at the club.
Ken McKim They did not rehearse with Chuck (Chuck expected all the groups who backed him knew his songs and rhythm) and here it did not work out so well because the sax player stopped and Chuck furiously waved him to continue.
Chuck would show up at gigs - and some of the assembled house bands would ask for a playlist. Chuck would respond: "Wha...we're playing Chuck Berry songs." That's all they needed to know.
