  • Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! CZcams's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we will take an up close and personal in depth look one of the mightiest Jeep Grand Cherokees to come out of the late 90s, the 1998 5.9 Limited. With performance rivaling other competitors, Land Rover for example, it was considered one of the fastest SUVs of its time, think of it as almost the SRT-8 of it's day! During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the suv is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A test drive is also included to show how it drives and sounds on the road as well as ergonomics. A thorough tour/review of this suv designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
    FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW:
    In this channel you will find in depth reviews/tour of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect in my presentations. I treat every vehicle with the same respect whether a 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS or the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. Ginge1990 Lol German? Quality? That’s funny. Most German cars such as Benz, VW, and BMW have parts that constantly fail and cost an arm and leg to fix. A German car won’t outlast it, and that’s a fact. Parts on this Jeep are simple, not overly engineered and affordable and can last a long time. It was built to last. And it does it’s job as I personally own one. It’s a 20 year old car and it runs amazing for its age. A lot of the 20 year old cars that you see in junk yards or on a tow truck are German.

    • @drjoe2323
      @drjoe2323 Před 9 lety +17

      Jster Smithson I'd keep the 5.9 limited if it's in great shape you just don't find them anymore kinda iffy on 1999 thru 2004 grand cherokee in my opinion worse years for jeeps litterally would see them leave the car lot and come back next day but I know a few people who love them so it's all bout luck that's with any car tho lol. wj is 94 thru 98 2000 thru 04 wj so it's all bout personal preference you'll surely miss tht power from the 5.9 tho i guarantee you that.

    • @evilassaultweaponeer
      @evilassaultweaponeer Před 8 lety +10

      +Jster Smithson My uncle worked as a test engineer for Chrysler at the time and shared a story about the '98 5.9 vs the '99 4.7. He and another engineer were using the two Jeeps to pull a heavy trailer up a steep grade in CA, and the 5.9 would overheat if taken above ~30 mph up the hill. The 4.7 made it at 70mph. That said, the 5.9 (and by extension the 5.2 as they are basically the same engine with different bores) turned out to be far longer lasting, as the 4.7s would often die early due to sludge buildup.

Gas consumption really isn't bad. 14 mpg average but i straight piped mine with a chip and its nasty. Loud, fast, and bullet proof engine. Never got stuck and 4x4 a lot. Towing is good for my quads. I'm honestly in love with this Jeep and never want to get rid of it. Props to Jeep for the SUV of the 1900's!!

    I’ve had one of these for just over 4 years. Overall a good car. Very powerful and great in the snow. Very good interior quality. My only complaints are the bad gas mileage ( but kinda expected with a 5.9 V8 ) and that the feel of the steering is not the greatest.

    Definitely, especially for the amount of miles it has. My uncle found a 5.9 with about 30,000 miles! Unfortunately, that means it was not driven very often. It was left parked outside on by a coastal house for years before he bought it. It has differential issues, shocks issues, and power steering pump problems. Good thing he has two others though. He's gonna sell one of them to me soon, it's got 80,000 miles on it. I wish more people took care of these rare cars. Less than 15,000 produced.

Don't go cheap on your fluids. $120 on diff oil every 30K miles is a good investment. Get some good spark plugs and check the gaps on each one (.038) Make sure your electrical system is in good shape (wires, dist. cap, coil, alt). Clean the ground from the battery to the fender and spray some anti corrosive stuff on it. K&N FIPK wakes up the 5.2. Have fun, good luck

    Just picked up a 98 ZJ this past December with 150k on it, 4.0L Straight 6 4x4 and with the selec-trac transfer case of course...mine is a Laredo, however it was special ordered and actually is an Special Edition behind Laredo badges. Its in excellent condition, if you didn't know any better it looks like someone just drove it off the assembly line, its clean inside and out.
    The 5.9L V8 Limited was only offered in 1998, just a 1 year run, so they're pretty hard to find, and if you do find them they're usually trashed, but if you do find one that is in great condition grab it, they're great vehicles and that 5.9L V8 was the quickest SUV of its time...and its still pretty dang quick.

    I do a lot of business across the Middle East, and on one of my trips I came across a 1998 JGC 5.9 that had ZERO miles on it, shit the seats were still covered in factory plastic, the guy owns a big showroom with all kinds of American and German cars that he had been stacking up since the 70s all of them are BRAND NEW CLASSICS and have all the fluids drained out of them to preserve them, that place looked like heaven to me LOL, he was asking $15K for the Grand Cherokee. I wanted that Jeep so bad

    This 5.9 had 16MPG average according to the video. I guess it's really up to the driver and conditions too. A 5l+ gas V8 in an SUV isn't exactly the most fuel efficient thing out there but I reckon you can drive it relatively cheaply (especially in the US where the gas prices are half of that of the rest of the world almost)

    @britishcarfan When he says the steering is "nice and tight" it usually means that there's a lot of power assisted feedback to the driver. So in other words, if you were steering the car, the wheel wouldn't just turn as easily, but in return, you usually get better feedback from the suspension.
