    That was most organized parts arrangement I’ve ever seen on an engine rebuild. Great idea using a grease marker on all the parts.

    Man that's a big peace of mind know'n she's all new... ready for another million. Years and years ago (87 ish), had a thermo stick on my N14 (400 horse).. back in those days, you got over 210, the motor was toast. Happened TWICE in three months time. It was a long nose freightliner, so the in frame was pretty easy.. two days all it took. Funny to think, but new heads, pistons, and liner kit was only 4-5k.. installed! I still have a couple chewed to the bone pistons from that catastrophe as a reminder... watch those gauges!

    The average cost of an inframe can be difficult to determine, because of many different things,
    Engine make, is it Detroit, cat, cummins, etc. You may be able to inframe a Detroit series 60 for $6,000, and a ISX, can go up to $35,000 to $40,000.
    If you reuse your head, reuse your turbo,
    Or, if you go all out, and replace every sensor, etc.
    Now, it's been my experience, (yours may differ) the most important thing concerning the inframe, is liner protrusion. It's extremely critical, spend the extra time, to get the liners to the exact same height. Over a million miles is possible, but it's got to be exact.

They don't rock like buses anymore and if you get one with the Volvo 12.8 engine and the 12 speed tranny. It will pull and drive like butter. Any engine made after 2007, had to meet more stringent environmental standards.
      Some diesel engines manufactured before 2007, had a warranty for 1 million miles.
      In 2008, trucking was introduced to the DPF, also called, the diesel particulate filter. Now, take about 20 masks, and put them on. You can now feel the effects of what's on your truck.
      It's can't breathe. So, guess what,
      Coolant temps go up, and when the DPF is full, we'll just throw some fuel into the exhaust, and burn all that carbon out.
      And to make it all work, we'll add a bunch of "sensors" to the "sensors" we already have, and, wait, about 10 minutes, because these "sensors" and "filters" are not only extremely expensive, but also extremely hard to change. That's why the older engines are being sought after,
      A rebuild equals a million miles, or more.
      The new engines, I've seen guys do a rebuild at 250,000 miles. And be in the shop 70 times, during that 250,000.

    • @robinmize3712
      @robinmize3712 Před 2 lety
