  • Rennie Advisory’s Matt Rennie says he is predicting there will be a “shortfall of supply” in the energy sector during the “mid-2035-2040 period”.
“When we look at what we should be doing now as a nation is really thinking about what we’ll do in the event that our plans don’t come off,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“Certainly, the renewables and battery and hydro future is one that everybody’s prosecuting as fast as they can, and they should.
“We should be building as much transmission as we can; we should be building as many renewables as we can.”

The whole United Nations drive to combat “climate change “ is a colossal waste of time, money and resources. It is paradoxically generating even more carbon dioxide emissions which actually do more good than harm ( increased agricultural yields, reduced winter heating costs and fewer deaths from hypothermia).
We need to withdraw from this economically destructive delusional insanity and use the most economical energy resources available.

In fact its not power draw, its DEMAND, power generated by controllable sources. PV on millions hut roofs are NOT included in this. So when sun goes down all traditional generation has to generate all power required, and it looks like absolute peak of consumption.

We are in a crisis of common sense.
It is a colossal waste of time, money and resources trying to prevent small and largely beneficial changes to the climate. The direct stimulation of plant growth by augmenting atmospheric carbon dioxide levels is also beneficial (increased agricultural yields).
We need to withdraw from the ridiculous Paris Agreement and use the most economical energy resources available. We could start by building some new coal fired power plants and by legalising nuclear power plants.
Wind turbines don’t make any sense with the possible exception of supplying Antarctic bases and solar panels are only useful as a supplement in sunny areas between the 35th parallels.

I can't wait to see how it all goes here in the ACT when Labor switches off the natural gas supply in the years to come. I look at all these large commercial buildings on a minus 4 morning, steam rising off them, all kicking their massive boilers into action at 6am to heat up those cold workspaces. Then I think of the power that will be required when it is no longer gas heated, but electrical instead, right when there is basically NOTHING coming from unreliables. If the grid can manage it all, the demand tariff will be astronomical.

Ha Ha. If Australia were to build such massive solar farms, other countries would declare war on Australia and fire missiles and destroy them. Scientists have been saying for years do not build giant solar farms as they can change the weather pattern in other countries like Australia building massive solar farms could change the weather pattern in England or Germany and cause flooding or drought in both countries. And scientists are also warning, not build solar farms on deserts or arid land as deserts and arid land reflect heat back and help keep the planet cool.

Gas??? The assumed need for forever gas energy generation is based upon 19th century electricity system design and thinking. There is a better way that does not have a need for variable generation to match the generation to the load. Rather than rapidly trying to increase generation by gas fired generators consider a situation where nuclear and renewable generation produce 200% of our peak load. When the grid power requirements are low the excess power could be switched INSTANTLY to intermittent ENVIRONMENTAL purposes. No corporation could run such a system and so state/government ownership and control would be mandatory in the interests of the people. Where there is an abundance of anything its price is always at its lowest. Additionally an oversupply of generation reduces the likelihood of outages for equipment breakdowns. Australia is a dry country surrounded by oceans and excess electricity could be used to generate fresh water for environmental inflows. Excess power could be used to make hydrogen or even methane for export, it would even be possible to use excess power to remove carbon from the atmosphere or oceans and use the carbon with more electricity to create synthetic crude oil. to support our remote transport requirements.. Ask the "GREENIES" if the use of electricity to scrub the atmosphere would be a valid usage for nuclear power. The more power generation that we have the greater the options we have in environmental manipulation or preservation. Finally try to think in terms of a power generation MESH rather than a grid. A mesh connects each area to its adjacent areas and so in the case of a power outage the nearby CELLS could supply the requirements of the effected area instantly and seamlessly. I feel like I am living in a nation of self obsessed Luddites all arguing over the past and their fishbowl existence without looking at, or understanding, what the future could bring! Try thinking like you live in the 21st century and not the 19th.
