- Former ANSTO chief executive Dr Adi Paterson slams AEMO, calling for a complete restructure.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton announced the Coalition’s nuclear policy last week, including the seven proposed sites for the nuclear reactors.
“My view is that AEMO should be completely restructured,” Dr Paterson said.
“It should be brought back into the real world, not animal farm.
“I think the Australia that we love is on the edge of a cliff.”
Our politicians are idiots vote them out
Exactly!
CSRIO needs a Senate Enquiry as to their incompetence and statements
Our future of our children is at stake here. These dum labor politicians have to go for the sake of our children
Is your future in Nukes only. Are not there more important things, like visiting doctors and buying food.
@@Yourbrightspot your not so bright spot ...NO-ONE repeat no-one has ever said Nuclear only ...just you !!
@craigharris7236 according to you. But not according to the message I'm responding to. Unless you were the same fake commentator. I'm bright because i can't read your brain and you are not bright because you are thinking on behalf of the fake comment that indicates the problem of Australians is only with power, thus they want to get rid of albo.
The labour government have never had a clue typical union leaders.
We need to get a wriggle on.
But the Woke mob are still enjoying their dose of failed Marxism - wouldn't it be rude to interrupt them now?
why is this $hit even an issue ?? FFS people are livng in tents and can't AFFORD to put food on the table !!!
dont be sucked into this bull$hit rhetoric !!! Australians first FFS
A tent will be a luxury in ten years if we don't stop politicizing power supply. Ideology has sequestered science and mainstream media has been misinforming the public for 3 generations. 🤠
IT will be an issue when there is no power so you can't buy food, fuel or go to your job because there is no power to run the place. That is clearly a bigger and sooner threat than what you realise.
So our future lives , and our prodgeny and their lives will be dependant on the WEATHER !! ..if its sunny and windy , great ! , but if its not .......??
no dimwit, get head out of arse
What people are over looking is the fact the next coal station they are planning to shut down is just over 2 years away. Minute they do that, we are stuffed. We need new Coal plants NOW before Australia is really finished.
Lets get rid of the real problem, the whole zero emissions, green lie and get back to building good old fashioned coal plants.
Tell Dutton to talk to this man
Yes, I wrote to AEMO a few years ago when they issued their highly risky plans. No response.
What gas shortage? Australia is the 2nd largest exporter of LNG in the world.
Australia just need to ban energy export and stop fueling carbon emissions in other countries if it's serious about reducing carbon emissions worldwide.
There is current non means to import WA gas into the East coast of Australia
very good interview. Finally, we talk to people who know. Commonwealth ownership also, is a massive factor in this proposal. It dramatically sures up own national security.
You know the truth when you hear it 👍
A 5 meg reactor has never yet produced electricity. Solar and wind cannot do it correct we have 100 years of gas and 200 of coal
It's not that big. Equivalent to one solar farm.
GO!!! PETER DUTTON. the country is watching.
When did the CSIRO get involved with estimating costs in both major Civil and Industral Construction?
Hmmmm.... interesting isn't it 🤭
Five years to build nuclear? It will take Australia five years just to determine which butterfly or toad stays in the proposed site! Same as the 20 years and counting submarine decision!😂😂
They could decide to put it in Wollies carpark and all the sudden they will "discover" it's a sacred site and that would be another 2 years and $10M before construction can continue.

Aemo will undoubtedly oppose any consideration of nuclear energy , they will not include it into their planning scenarios, this is important because the planning of entire energy system is based on their scenarios but they can't solve so many problems right now.
AEMO's reports are based on real world data. Real world data tells us that every western nuclear project over the last 20 years (Hinkley, Vogtle, Sumner, Flamanville, Olkiluoto,) has gone way over time and budget.
They also make the point that every country is different in its particular circumstances so what works in one country may not work so well in another. Australia for example does not have access to large amounts of hydro to balance its nuclear (eg Canada, Sweden, Finland) or connections to a wider grid (eg France)
@@tassied12.. although US wants to triple their nuclear fleet and the price of uranium has doubled over the past year.
@@tassied12.. how's aemo's hydrogen super power scenario going?
@@tassied12.. you will be peer reviewed like everyone else in this debate and we'll sort you out.
@@MrSmileyPeople What the US wants to do and what it will achieve could be entirely different things.
The US has no nuclear plants on order. It has a bunch of reactors approaching retirement. The median age of retirements of its reactors is 42 years, even if every single reactor still operating has its life extended to 75 years, less than ten of them will be operating in 2050. That means it will have to build 278 AP1000's by 2050.
It has completed three reactors in the last 14 years.
Good on Adi for calling out the Far Left Fascism, because that certainly lies at the heart of the ALP/Greens/Teals.
We don't have enough gas on the East Coast to back up renewables, most of the gas is on the West Coast.
listen to the dr, not stupid Bowen
Make Australia a power rich country and watch out manufacturing sector flourish and more money in people pockets
There is a business idea produce a roof top solar shield which automatically covers the panels when rain is detected and every night
Market operator in findland stated that electricity dropped off the back of more wind power nuclear had a marginal effect and in fact olkiluoto plant is now throttled back some days as the electricity prices are too low to operate without paying to put into the grid
I work in solar all panels these days are rated to withstand up to 5cm hail
Approx figures.. The USA 9million km2- 93 nuclear plants.... Australia 7million km2- 0 nuclear plants....roxby has plenty of Uranium...
To AEMO's credit it called out Labors' rush to close coal Power Stations. warning that renewables would not be able to cope, issuing warnings of blackout risks this summer in Vic and NSW due to reliability risks because renewable infrastructure has not been built or advanced enough.
AEMO plans to bring in if required rotating grid area shutdowns to shore up power NSW and Victoria over summer, with schemes such as such as paying for additional generation from existing coal and gas plants and for large energy users to voluntarily reduce demand.
Because renewables cannot keep up or haven't been built or aren't advanced enough yet.
Solar and wind can not and will not ever produce the supply consistency needed 24/7 to keep the grid viable.
Lies lies lies and more lies.
It's all about the confidential investor contracts AND subsidies.
Who exactly thinks solar panels are new?
What sort of expert is that he predicts the weather.
Nuclear plant in Australia? The Unions will ensure these plants will be so expensive and delayed so far into the future that there will be no economic sense in nuclear!
All the more reason to fly OS workers in to build them and fly them home when done.
It is illegal to fly workers in and out of Australia. Employer has to prove “why”, pay Aussie wages, perks, holidays, fees to unions, accomodation, medical expenses guarantee and bond to govt, health insurance + endless list. Not worth the hassle or money. Unions have this country cornered and employers blackmailed with govt approval. Australia’s Karma that it is trying so hard to wreck itself economically. Like Rahul Gandhi is getting paid to do in India.
@@unknownisbest Easily done. We don’t have a skilled Nuclear worlforce on mass to build plants. With respect to wrecking itself, the country has itself to blame for voting socialist governments in at state levels and the worst of all, 3yr election cycles Federally. A party should get 5 years to roll out its mandate, simple. Oh and as far as Unions are concerned, they are easily de-registered, it just takes balls for someone to pull the trigger and if thats not possible read up on the decline of unions in the USA, they are headed the same way here.
Unions here wont be building them
@@mersinalou7397
Yes, they will build! It’s one great opportunity for union members to loot the taxpayer for 20 to 30 years at the end of which the technology is outdated and electricity produced very expensive!
The negative comments are halarious. Even ANSTO agrees and coal-fired power stations need to be upgraded or replaced in 20 years anyway. Upgrading or replacing a coal-fired power station also costs billions $$$$
Australia is flush with yellow cake. SMRs are great but still not up to spec for all purpose. Two thirds of Australia is uninhabitable. FNQ flushes 3 meters of torrential rain per year in the dry county which just runs away and then disappears. FNQ could host a large scale nuclear reactor because everything is available. Except the workforce, but we are close to India. If politics was eliminated, FNQ could be nuclear powered silicon valley. We have, food, water, space and resources. Just need more people to build a new city West of Cairns. The only stopping block is political interference. 🤠
Idiot - the only place in the world that has a functioning prcessing system to turn yellowcake into finished fuel is - Russia - where are you going to get the fuel from for your reactor ? Where are you going to get the people to run it ?
No this is wrong. The rainbow serpent sings in the song lines that there won’t a hail storm, ever.
Nucleer 😂. Then run it to home 1:55kwh the 0.05 for poles likely 02.5 well see before @% industry systems O gearing to gas power....
Yeh right, first the whole scientific community then the climatologists, now its AEMO. In fact it's anyone that's disagrees with the ideology these fools stand for.
Pardon? The scientific community 'whole' or in part would understand the true value and safety of Nuclear energy, climatologists are delusionists who don't understand that the climate is changing, has been since the beginning of time. That's why we had dinosaurs, then ice ages, there is glacial moraine 20km from Adelaide the coal fields all over Australia are evidence of tropical forests, you knew coal is from trees yeah? AEMO is a sham it was set up and operates to favour wind and solar generation and actively penalises base load reliable generation, that's why base load plant is being shutdown and replaced in South Aust. by wind farms and huge DIESEL powered generators. We as a species need to adapt to climate change, not try and stop it, that bloke king Canute couldn't stop the tide, we can't stop natural climate change.
This guy ids brilliant!!!
Could we not lead the way in micro reactors?
Sigh the issue is 60% of folks will only see the Chernobyl/Fukashima issue and get scared by it. We are never going to build an OLD Russian era Reactor; only a green voting mental deficient would think that, and Fukashima was just unlucky they couldn't shut down the reactors before the Tidal Wave struck.
None of those are a reason to not have or to build them, the 5 Megawatt reactors seem like the ducks guts and a priceless conclusion.
Except they do noy exist ? Minor problem - the Bill Gates plant he quoted - does not have a license to even construct one - but he has taken the gamble and stated laying concrete for it in the hope he can get a license (the decision will still be about 3 years away !)
At least he is honest about one thing, it is complex, therefore keep it away from Rita, Rowan, Murray & the barfly audience & Sky in general.
Your choice of nuke sites do no comply with nuke energy regulators. A 20 km buffer zone around the site with no more than 200 persons living within zone A 50 km Emergency zone in case of mishap.
Towns around coal fired power stations are with in the 20km buffer zone
Big hail storm?Big hail storm taking out all solar panels? C'mon dude , how many SMR will we need 30? They won't be cheap, no one has done them to budget yet.
Who will bear responsibility for the upcoming disaster?
The disaster is already upon us.
No nuclear help save me I need a scan
How the hell does a former head of ANSTO not know that despite the projects no-one outside of Russia and China has deployed a SMR?
Make hydroelectric dams great again.
"I don't like what AEMO has to say so i want to have them changed to play to my tune"
lol this is complete nonsense the guy is a proper physicist but blinkered in his support and in denial over the limited use of SYNROC
Dr Pateson worked at a tiny litte nuclear reactor in NSW It did not provide electricity and he was not involved in building it. We need experts who have been involved in electricity generation, construction and selling.
I've heard quite a few self-appointed experts tell us over the years that what the power system needs is a cabal of 'real' engineers in charge of planning. When they are asked if we don't already have the best engineers at [insert name of system operator], they say that this cannot be the case because we aren't going in the direction they would have chosen (eg no self-respecting engineer would employ wind turbines). In other words, the engineers in charge cannot be any good if they don't agree with the person making all the noise, usually an old white dude with doctor as a title wanting to take things back to the way we did them in their time (ie nothing new is any good). The only way someone like this gets what he wants is to put him in charge of choosing the people in charge AND of making sure they don't think for themselves...
"Mr Littleproud, you and Dutton reminded me of the speech JFK gave on reaching the moon, not that you are both JFK but you both made me proud. I can hear you saying "We choose to go Nuclear in the next ten years and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard". Come on Australia get behind this far seeing Mr Dutton / Littleproud and vote for LNP both in the Senate and The House of Representatives or the ALP, Greens and loopy Teals will forever stop us moving forward and bankrupt Australia with the cost of renewables, which have to be replaced and disposed of in 15yrs".
Dutton will only take you underground.
This bloke only thinks Sydney Basin time he got out of the city
Yep, where's Melbourne and its industry at?
Nuclear Energy ANSTO CHIEF EXCUTIVE---> doesn't have a barrow to push 😂😂🤪
So I want a different umpire.. not AEMO who are independent like the CSIRO.
CSIRO aren’t independent. They get funding off the Federal government. Same as the organisation that does all the crash testing, they get federal government funding.
If you vote for voldemort your voting for mudoch the real power be hind the throne
