      No problem Teddy, the problem I really had was the fact that you forgot to mention that Dempsey on some occasions wouldn’t be able to eat for two days straight and probably would have to fight fasted in order to just eat. Now that shows what a human can do. Whenever I feel down I think of the old greats and what they had to do to make this world better and a more interesting place. Love your podcast brother keep making good vids 👍

    As a physical therapist, I would like to add my analysis to Jack Dempsey’s advantage.
    Firstly, Jack increased his bone density in his hands, by working as a miner in Colorado. The constant pounding increased his weight of his knuckles, due to Wolfe’s Law, (use it or lose it), thereby adding to the hammer like blows from his fists.
    Secondly, as this gentleman displayed the technique of “closed chain” contact, from floor to fist was essentially revolutionary for its time. I believe Bruce Lee recognized this whenever he studied other techniques, such as conventional boxing.
    Also, as was mentioned, he had the motivation and drive to climb out of poverty.
    The best part of it was that he was a wonderful human being.

    How Jack Dempsey managed not to break his hands when he was fighting in bare-knuckle boxing matches? I think those fighting in the BKFC could learn a lot from his fists conditioning.

    • @davidcampos2615
      @davidcampos2615 Před 4 lety +2

      @Stanley Viggo 02 You can't just ignore breaking your fists no matter how 'tough' you are. He was a tough fella who had a tough early life. Dempsey is an American legend.

    • @davidcampos2615
      @davidcampos2615 Před 4 lety +4

      @Stanley Viggo 02 I mean like obviously you can fight through it with there being tons of examples of fighters breaking their hands in boxing and still fighting but you can't literally ignore it. Itd be foolish for your career to flat out ignore it. You strike me as someone whos going to not use any facts to prove your point.

    • @josephmelendez8370
      @josephmelendez8370 Před 3 lety +8

      You have to remember though, the guys from those eras were trained and preceded by men who had over a century of bareknuckle experience passed to them from the last crop of old school pugilists. So their knowledge of how to protect their hands was better than we realize. That's why fighters in the early days of gloves like Jack Johnson look so awkward to modern boxing eyes, even their basic stance. It's because their stance and techniques were developed for bareknuckle fighting, while fighting with gloves was still relatively new. Unfortunately as a result, many of those techniques are long gone, and modern boxing in their eyes would likely be seen as overly dependent on the gloves for things like hand protection and defense. Ironically if they saw how modern boxers fight they'd probably be just as dumbfounded as some of us are watching film of them.

    • @jordanmartens5591
      @jordanmartens5591 Před 3 lety +9

      He actually describes how in his timeless book, Championship Fighting and Aggressive Defense written in 1950.
      His punching technique would utilize the three knuckle landing, pinky, ring and middle finger, aiming for the ring knuckle. He would emphasize purity in punching, which meant that the knuckles were facing the same direction as his moving body weight.
      Most modern fighters have their punching knuckles slanting away from the direction of their moving body weight. Especially when punching with the first two knuckles, this means breaks are more likely to occur as the forces are met in the hand with little stability behind them structurally.
      With the 3 knuckle landing, the knuckles are pointing in the same direction as the arm bone and therefore the stability is secure and the punch is pure. Not only is the 3 knuckles lined up with the target, but the thumb is out of the way and the wrist is aligned so that thumb breaks and wrist twists are less likely.

    And yet a Dempsey could never have existed if Teddy had his way of mandated MRI's and proving your worthy of fighting.... Think about it... Dempsey seldom had two nickels to rub together, and he'd of been decommissioned forever after losing to Fireman Jim Flynn because he could've never afforded the MRI... Irony of ironies because so many people, like Billy Conn who lost so many fights at the beginning of his career, would've been forced out of boxing if Teddy's total commission control and extreme consequences was made a reality.

He would not be facing 1 Giant, but Giant after Giant in the ring. I cant rank em like that because well size does matter in the ring. Its best to rank em in Historic point of view than Head to Head. Marciano climb to the top, became Champ, beat every contender worth a dam, and retire. Louis ranks high because he climb to the top and rein for 12 years beaten every one of note.
