Woodturning - Golden Rain Burl (The Most Beautiful Wood I Have Ever Turned)
Natural Edge Hollow Form.
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a piece of laburnum burl, (golden rain burl) into a natural edge hollow form.
When woodturning a piece like I find it important to nibble away at it until I see what shape the wood wants to be, this is what is so enjoyable about woodturning. big log to bowl (little bowl) but i find removing the wood in layers allows me to find the best possible shape.
If you find these videos entertaining I’d appreciate you hitting the like button and if you'd like to see more from me you can simply click the subscribe button.

UNBELIEVABLE!
Cheers 😊👍🏻
Wahoo!!!!!’
His Doctor. "So apparently after years of splinters being fired at the bottom of his hand, all the particles imbedded and turned the whole thing into wood."
Good for a thimble.
@@TheWereparadox😊
I have to agree with you, truly astonishing.
Thanks Kip. Glad you enjoyed it 😊👍🏻
You are right that is the most beautiful wood I have seen on here.
Thanks Lynda. Glad you agree! 👍🏻😊😉
What a wonder piece of nature .
Couldn’t agree more Dave. Thanks for watching 😁👍🏻
calling the piece figured would be a massive understatement. It is alive.
Great find wasn’t it?
I used to work for a community banking company that celebrated Arbor Day each spring by giving away about 3000 seedling trees to the public as a PR event. Over the years, we gave away Green Ash, Red Bud, Hawthorn and Golden Rain seedlings. This project ran for at least 25 years and probably netted upwards of 7 to 10 thousand new trees in our community assuming about 10 to 15 per cent actually were planted and grew. I think the project ended in the late 1980s so the youngest of these trees would be over 30 years old by now. Since we featured Golden Rain trees every three or so years there is an abundance of mature examples of this species in my hometown and each time I visit, I see them everywhere. Really an unusual and attractive tree in an urban setting. The yellow flowers in June, followed by the tawny-colored lantern seed pods and small, dark green leaves make this a very special tree. To know its wood is so decorative makes me feel really glad I helped bring a large number of these great trees to my old home town.
Wow! What a fantastic idea. If only every town had the initiative to follow in these footsteps. Society grows rich when men plant tree’s of which they will never feel the shade. Thanks for watching 😁👍🏻
A great hobby. Anybody who does not get some kind of creative outlet is missing one of the greatest pleasures in life. And you don't have to be an artist to get the full enjoyment of it.
True that Kermit. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
@@JackMackWoodturning I'm probably wrong, but that looks like linseed oil. But, being a painter, everywhere I look, I see linseed oil. Nothing like the smell of linseed oil based paints.
Worthy of any kings TREASURE.
Thanks a lot John, much appreciated 😊👍🏻
Your right, that is a beautiful piece of wood.
Is it the best you have seen ?
Pure handcrafted artistry. The talent must be as rare as that burl.
Wow kind words indeed.
Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
That's the most sensational graining I've ever seen on a piece of wood. Like silk paisley. Love the shape, too.
Nice one Rich. It was a good find 😊👍🏻
"like silk paisley" , said.
Nature is a far better artist than we humans.
Too true jaka
Boy is that pretty. Nature makes the best art !
Man. That grain is spectacular
It’s real is isn’t it.
Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
There is something very satisfying in the knocking, clacking, rattatat tatting, sizzling, whirring, and humming of the tools and machinery. I appreciate that you didn't dub this with music or rush us through the process or overwhelm the work with words. It is a stunningly beautiful piece of wood, and you brought it out into the light.
God is good.
Thanks Dodie, glad you enjoyed it man. I agree, music can spoil the atmosphere. 😁👍🏻
I agree. I could sometimes just listen to the audio of it.
Accurate title is accurate.
That. Is. Beautiful.
Thanks man. Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
VERY INTERESTING
Nice one James. Thanks for watching 👍🏻😊😉
You edit out the stops along the way, I love to see the wood develope. For me, seeing the lathe spin down and taking a good look at the piece is much more entertaining than watching a blur with shavings flying off. I love your pieces, just great work. I was kinda saving that comment from past videos, when you switched to hallowing and I saw the grain pattern, holy cow. That is a lottery win piece of wood.
Hi William, thank you for the constructive feedback.. I realise now that I have missed out that aspect in this video. It good to know what the viewers enjoy about my videos and what you’d like to see more of. I will definitely keep this in mind while editing future videos.
Thanks for the kind words and I hope my coming videos are more enjoyable to watch.
Jack.
WHAT. The shot with the chips flying right into the camera was the best shot! Like, WHOA man 😲🥴 SICK!
I both agree and disagree with this. I've seen videos that was satisfying just watching it shape on the lathe then they stop and the grain is beautiful, the imperfections add to the beauty and then they keep taking away from it and I get disappointed until the end. For me I prefer watching it spin and see the chips flying as it shapes. That's very mentally satisfying and relaxing. Then just catching glimpses here and there until the final polish and finished product add to the satisfaction. But as I mentioned I also agree and love seeing how the grain looks while it's getting its shape.
I agree.
I agree. I really like seeing when someone is turning a piece of wood has a lot of personality & live edging in all kinds of shapes and directions. Seeing the progress and even hearing the one turning talks about what is going on inside their head, how the wood is reacting, etc. Just seeing a blur with shavings flying isn't nearly as interesting.
Dude,
That is about the prettiest wood I have ever seen some turn. That is definitely a keeper. I don't think that piece would ever leave my house. If you take it to an exhibit someone might offer you too much to turn down for it.
A thought popped in my head while I was watching you sanding. A Sand-o-flex, with about 180 grit paper in it, would have saved you a lot of time and done a great job on the bark inclusions.
Great job, great piece.
Cheers buddy.. I don’t think they sell those over here in the uk but from the videos iv watched they seem pretty rampant.. I like to sand in a controlled, thoughtful manner.. you w
See people going wild for hours with power tools and attachments. If they used the right grit at the right time and be thoughtful about the sanding process things get finished a hell of a lot quicker and with a much better finish. I try not to show too much sanding on my videos because people seem to hate it.. for me, sanding is a world of fun. I love it, 😊👍🏻
Literally looks like Venus 😍😍😍
I thought Jupiter. Same concept though. Thanks for watching Furry! 😉👍🏻
Beautiful "Tree Bones" 👍
Nice one Pick, thanks for watching 😁👍🏻

Is it actually Golden Chain? Rather than "Rain"
@@markfreeland1027 Golden rain tree is Koelreuteria Paniculata, while golden chain tree is Laburnum Gyroides
Wow, when it's polished, the grain is so golden it looks like Tiger's Eye gemstone...
Beautiful isn’t it. Such a lovely piece of wood. 😉👍🏻
