The best band on the planet not enough people know about.
Just saw them in Denver a while back. Wow it was epic...
I do
Saw them in 1991
Real ones know and that’s enough for Mr Spaceman
These guys are still around?! I've never been happier to be made to feel so old!
Finally! Spiritualized on a US Late Night Show! Jason sounds amazing as always!
Jason and the band performed on the old David Letterman Late Show around 3 times from the 90’s until the show ended, and here they are again with the new host.
A legitimate rock band on TV in 2019? I love Spiritualized, fuck yeah!
Thank you Jason for giving voice to my deepest feelings over and over.
This is the first time Ive seen Phil Selway so chilled while he was playing
Is it actually him or just a doppleganger?
Beautifully performed. And great show 👍
J Spaceman is a genius
Spiritualized AND "Late Night's Lighting Designer Is Amazing -- He/She Has Hundreds Of Lights Present Emitting Virtually No Light & Not Hitting The Performers"
Beautiful
Holy fuck this song is beautiful.
So good. Actually love the new LP.
What??? Spiritualized on Colbert!!??
I KNOW RIGHT. NOW GET MY BLOODY VALETINE ON THERE
IKR? I didn't even realize they were still doing stuff.
Everything hurts Stephen, I have trumpitus, so thank you for the music, meets the mood. 💙
@Jack Clare lol
@Jack Clare lol
drummer looks SO much like phil selway
Thanks for having them on the show !
Aaaahhhh, thank-you LSSC. That's much much better.
Sounds liike Lennon post Beatles. Love it. Great to have them creating music again.
Saw them at Psych Fest in ATX few years back. Good times.
Yes...love it
Thank you Jason, thank you very much
I've just watched Stephen Colbert shake hands with Jason Pierce. That's fucking amazing. I have also just been reminded that I have an original photo which has written on the back " Jason Pierce ripping up soiled carpet in apartment. Colbert" It was some rental place and I got it on EBAY. It's legit as fuck. I'd love to get his autograph on it. The man is my fucking hero. Soundtracked my life.
Drunk in L.V. 3am at your favorite casino 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Doggen steals the show with that solo
...like a nice Mick Ralphs/Mott lead.
Love this album. I’m fine with an upbeat swing for Spiritualized- gives us all hope :)
That was their upbeat swing?!
@@leavingitblank9363 lol my thought too - 90s them was really textural long form psychedelic. time will change ya
@@leavingitblank9363 this album opener was amazing when it came out czcams.com/video/yYSN5lFMHXU/video.html
@@clumsiii That's my favourite song of all-time. I don't think there's ever been a more beautiful piece of music in human history. 👍
Great performance!
Lyrics sound like a relationship you probably shouldn't get into, lol, but great performance
the best late show ever!
Love how Jason pulled the old 'I'm too old for nice' seated handshake.
I guess it's always a sunny day when you're inside a real estate.
I had a chance to meet him and he was actually a super sweet guy. Totally wasn't expecting that from such a rock and roll star.
@@HyltonE Always wanted to meet him. I've heard that he's a nice guy but he's also a proper enigma.
Oh yeah!
AWEsome ...
I wish J Spacemen would patch things up with Sonic Boom and get Spacemen 3 back together again. I love Spiritualized but Spacemen 3 is where the magic began.
That would be great man, but it will never happen.
Something about this performance makes me think of Randy Newman.
A well written song performed by someone with a weird singing style?
@@melissasaint3283 Lol. Exactly.
🎉
im so happy that florence welch introduce me to them
Morse code on the album translates to: and nothing hurt
That's actually not true, it says "sail on through"
@@ValHearta . Maybe I should have said, "Morse code on the graphics displayed behind Steven translates to..." My code is a bit rusty but I'm 99.9% sure that's what it says. Can't really make out what it says on the "album cover" he's holding. I'm old...lol
You can seriously tell me Jason Pierce & Bobbie Gillespie are the same guy & I’d believe you
...but Jason is a way better singer then Bobbie.
I saw Bobby waiting for Jason at the bar after a Spiritualized gig. So they're _almost certainly_ not the same person lol
Saw Spiritualized in SLC
oh fuk yeah, good song
Richard Ashcroft’s wife used to be in this joint.
Was thinking the same thing recently. Now Captain Rock has drifted into irrelevancy, Spiritualized continue to make beautiful music.
And the heartbreak of her leaving made for some amazing tunes
she was Jason's girlfriend prior to that.
Ashcroft was staying with Jason & Kate then hooked up with her so the story goes.
I loved their debut album. It reminded me of OK Computer a bit. This performance just kind of has a 1960's vibe.
Laser guided melodies? Really?
@@garj6976 laser guided melodies is a fantastic album
Imagine jagger and this could be the best outtake from exile youve never heard.
Jason has been remaking the same album for 25 years, but the blueprint is so good I don't care
Remember when Jason was on Leno, and wouldn't sit on the couch and so Leno got pissed on camera? Yeah. good times.
Joey Levenson oh wow I’d like to see that, can’t find it on CZcams though
I thought that was Letterman? Jason refused to answer questions or something, and Letterman basically gave them the old 'you'll never work in this town again' speech after the show.
The Sprawl not quite
I'm yer man
space rock huh? Never heard of it.. but I like everything about this.. :)
Just so you know, this isn't space rock at all. Their early stuff is space rock; the first three albums, Lazer Guided Melodies, Pure Phase and Ladies And Gentlemen... They're all very psychedelic, woozy and spacious.
After those first three albums they gradually transitioned into the kind of pretty straightforward rock and roll/country-soul they're playing in this video.
@@thesprawl2361 I'll have to look those up and thank you Sprawl for taking time to suggest!
@@ursaltydog You're welcome. And I'd highly recommend starting with the album Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. Enjoy...
Is Philip Selway drumming?
So us baldies all look the same to you, huh? That's... capillarist!
He actually does look quite a bit like Phil Selway, but his name is Kevin Bales.
@@xTheOxx Thank you. And, actually, I'm as bald as Kevin and Phil, so, this great drummer might be me too :-P
Is it just me or is he looking a bit like hugh grant
I’m showing my age here, but to me he looks a bit like Easy Rider vintage Peter Fonda.
@@Petalumination ok I googled it. I see what you mean 😅
People say he looks like whatsisname who used to go out with Madonna, the gay guy, English, actor...that's annoying me now. Played Oscar Wilde recently? Ah fuck it
I will always love Spiritualized, but their first three albums are clearly the best.
Give the new one a shot. It doesn't so much grow on you as worm its way right to your soul
And Nothing Hurt is miles better than Pure Phase
Is Adam Neely on keyboards?
No it’s me
Works ok at 1.5x speed. Even better at 2x.
Is that Phil Selway on drums?
Kevin Bales
fredly71 they’re doppelgängers
But if you want wasted, loaded, permanently folded
Doing the best that he can
...
When will Lewis Capaldi perform?
Never hopefully
@@garj6976 he did. Lmao
@@palsp666 im sure that was exciting
saw them years ago at a festival. people left in droves and they were all saying "THEY SUCK"
hahaha...Pierce at his best
He wears his sunglasses at night
Damn thought it was gonna be a Leonard Cohen cover
I thought it was Chris Angel at first
3 black backing singers as always.🤔
John Lennon?
How to make a mess of a wonderful song.
Unpopular opinion: this song isn’t good spiritualized
this sucks
Reading lyrics on a music stand? Really?
To be fair, hes made music for 35 years, so there's a lot to sort through and remember lol
@@SleepyBoi_9000 He's no Mick Jagger
I mean, who really is? Haha
@@SleepyBoi_9000 He's no Neil Young?
If anything, check out his album 'Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space', that album is truly amazing. You wont regret giving it a shot.
I've followed Spiritualized since their very first single, and then the beautiful album, "Lazer Guided Melodies". Sorry, but this one is very dull, and horribly cliched and predictable.
Good on America for making up dumb names for genres... Oh, 'space rock' are they? Did you get that straight off Wikipedia? At the time they were another indie band, putting out something different to the tired old American crap we were all bombarded with (and still are). And of course, at the time, they were ignored by America. But now, three decades later, here they are on Colbert... Space rock band, Spiritualised.
In fairness, the cover of the album and loads of their promo shots feature Jason in a spacesuit and he goes under the name J Spaceman.
ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space
Space rock was probably coined by the UK music press. I don't like the term - there's more to groups that are called space rock than singing about space.
Si Mac ... You gonna be ok? If you need a tissue I can get you one. Maybe a tampon? 🥀
The term is actually valid. Jason Pierce was a member of Spacemen 3 where the term was really coined from in the UK.
how boring. how can so many male singers sound exactly the same? great musicians tho!
Why does this show do all good and then bring bland artists wow
NPR Tiny desk dose better at that!
This band is one of the most critically acclaimed rock acts of the 1990s who have played theatres around the world to sold out crowds just to perform *one* record of theirs from start to finish; obscure in the US, maybe, but far from bland and far from insignificant.
@@martinmichalek Actually, he's been doing it since the 80's with Spacemen 3.
Give it a rest
All I know is good music from all around the world and all the best of rock and jazz and blues and even classic. This is just forgetable and boring. Face it people they can do better...
My honest opinion.
@@gmflash7
The horror! An artist you don't get. How could they!!!???
