    • @scotttild
      @scotttild Před rokem +7

      It was part the A's fault for a bad business move so the Giants were not entirely to blame. A's mistake was not retaining the San Jose rights in the late 80s when the Giants were considering moving. When they didn't the A's should have demanded that area back as part of their territory. You also have to look at the other 28 teams that voted no for any relation. They didn't want their territory approached on either. You think the Mets and Yankees want another team moving into NY? So it was not entirely the Giants fault. MLB could have compensated the Giants for the loss of San Jose but no one could figure out a pice tag. In fact BAL and MLB are still arguing about moving into DC. So its more complicated then just being the Giants fault.

    I’m a huge A’s fan and of course followed the stadium saga for years. A slight correction, while the did discuss a stadium north of the coliseum, I don’t recall a quality rendering. The one you showed with the pyramid bleachers was the first Fremont design. The came up with a subsequent rendering when they struck a deal with Cisco for naming rights. The third stadium rendering with the mini suites in the outfield was their proposed stadium in downtown San Jose, south of the shark tank arena.

    The stadium may be ugly. However, the reason for terrible attendance is not the low aesthetic quality of Oakland Alameda Coliseum. It is rather the poor aesthetic quality of the Athletics play. The wisdom of moving to Las Vegas, a much smaller market which means much less broadcast revenue and even less sponsorship revenue is nonexistent. John Fisher needs to buy land in the Bay area and build a new stadium with his own money. The idea of publically funded sports venues for professional sports, which are private businesses, is an exercise of stupidity by a local or state government.
