  • Commonly sold as Othonna capensis, I do believe the most up-to-date scientific name for this succulent is Crassothonna capensis. And it's fondly known as string of pickles. It's #330 in "365 Days of Plants".
In this video I'll discuss where it is originally native to, where I'm growing it in my home, and basics like light, watering and fertilizing.
You can check out more of these videos here and on my IGTV @homesteadbrooklyn.

I have those and I can vouch they are fairly easy to grow and care. Good plants for beginners if they want a trailing plant that's forgiving. They will give off a nice dark purple colour (hence the name) if exposed to bright sunlight

My most benignly neglected plant... I only water it when I notice that it's very shrivelled. It's turned completely purple and is trailing all over my other succulents.

If given direct sunlight the leaves turn a deep burgundy-red. Hence, ‘Ruby Necklace ‘.

I always thought it was Ruby bc of the purple stems? But eh the sun stress makes more sense, though most succulents get sun stressed.

It was amazing watching this video. I recently brought Fiddle leaf fig, calathea zebrina, pachira aquatica, Boston fern, philodendron congo, staghorn fern, philodendron congo, and a few snake plants. I have a North facing twenty feet wide balcony with bright light and no direct sunlight and I have placed my plants five feet away from the balcony inside my living room. I have noticed yellowing of leaves of pachira aquatica and Boston fern. In fact my Fiddle leaf fig seems to be happy and has two new leaves. After watching your video I am worried as I have a North facing balcony which has light from east and west but it is only three feet wide, so I would be glad to know something from you
