I think the difference is that Trisha knows Shane well, but she doesn't know Ethan's friends, and unlike Trisha, Ethan won't go off on her about her friends in the same way because he knows that he doesn't know them like she does.
It's easy to notice every time they talk about JacksFilms. Ethan clearly knows Jack better, but Trisha keeps insisting he's a dick for MAYBE being rude to her once 5 years ago.
