    EDIT:
    I've received some emails with questions about the measurements of my kaleidoscope.
    The length is 227mm, the sides are 10mm and 40mm.
    It's made out of a 6" x 9" plastic mirror sheet with the thickness of 0.8mm.
    Thin mirror sheets, easy to cut but take time to assemble

    I've been working on making these for about 8 months now. The info about building them is so scarce that I had to reverse engineer from videos of some of the well known makers.
    When you want to move to glass, I recommend "first surface mirror". Regular mirror works okay but the design is not crisp. Also, color film for windows works well instead of sharpie.
    From what I can glean from the guys that are selling them for 350 a piece, they use a red diode laser to etch the design into the mirror. I use a Dremmel for now but the laser would really be the cleanest. Etching cream might also work but I haven't tried that yet.
    Putting a dichroic cube at the end really ties the whole thing together.
    I resent that I cannot get these guys to share any info about some of the other questions I have about them but hopefully with some more sleuthing I can get the answers. They do not like sharing their secrets.

      @@my-pixels You have other methods of achieving this effect or better? Ive been fascinated in kaleidoscopes with complex patterns similar to david sugich's for an example. Ive been researching here and there getting ready to build one soon.

      @@outoftheblue6587 David's kaleidoscopes are made of glass and I haven't tried to make my own yet. But at least we know the principles now. The only thing that's left is to figure out how to make those stipes by removing the mirror coating. Most liekely chemically.

    • @kwbond8

      @my-pixels acetone maybe? Or etching with acid? You're a Legend by the way, thank you for this. Can I ask, is the small end closed off? Or do you leave it open?

    • @my-pixels
      @my-pixels  Před rokem +2

      @@kwbond8Thank you! I also think there may be some kind of acid involved. The small end is open. Actually, the shape of that end opening is what generates the central 'star' shape. Experiment with it! Also, they add a coloured ball at the tail end to make the star even more beautiful.

  • @dragonwarriorgamer7892

    • @my-pixels
      @my-pixels  Před rokem +4

      Thank you for the comment!
      You have to use a flashlight to illuminate your kaleidoscope from outside. Just point the light randomly and you should see all the wonderful effects. That's how these things work. Hope this helps!
