  • I recently re-covered my Pearl Reference Pure kit with Vvivid vinyl wrap that’s usually used for wrapping cars so I thought I’d put together a video on the process 👍🏼

    I just followed this and it worked great. I did go with the Vvivid wrap and it is very forgiving. I used to do window tint many years ago and this was like butter. I ordered the Black Oak from Vivivid on Amazon. Like 46 dollars to wrap the whole kit. Thank you for this walk thru.

    It’s honestly a lifesaver that there’s a tutorial from an Australian as I’m in Aus but most of these tutorials use/recommend brands that don’t ship here

    The walnut shells without any wrap looks so much better than with the wrap.

      Yeah it’s certainly a nice finish, the beauty of wrapping them this way is that it’s completely reversible 👍🏼

    It looks like the original finish of your Reference Series is in excellent condition. Before I use these on an old set of mine I just wanted to confirm that the vinyl wrap won't damage the original finish of the shell. From what I understand vinyl wraps on cars actually protect the paint underneath. Just wasn't sure if it would work the same with wood stained drum shells.

    • @samuelpettit9841
      @samuelpettit9841  Před 8 měsíci +4

      I’ve since removed this wrap and can confirm the finish underneath was 100% intact and original!

      Update: I wrapped it using a black sparkle from the same brand and it came out great! The vinyl is very forgiving and easy to work with, had some small bubbles but I was able to pop and work them out no problem.

    Looks great! Thanks for sharing. These car wraps are certainly useful for many applications and I was looking to remove all my chrome hardware on my drums just to give them a clean and remove surface rust, so now will look to also apply this during the process.

    Great video!.
    got me thinking about how this might change stage image tour to tour or help with performance themes and such. That reference pure kit is super cool too, i have yet to try a full kit but if i did i fear i may end up re mortgaging the house lol!. Not to mention projects like these are a guilty pleasure hahh. nuthin like just killing a whole day with a drum set when you have the time. I was a bit sceptical about that blue at first but once you put the hardware on....#thudboner lmfao!!!. That blue has me sold that kit will have striking stage presence!. Take care

    How did you get the length of the material correct. Just 16 inches x 3.14 and then cut to that? It seems like that seem wouldn't be perfect, but yours was.

  • @michaelweston1373

    • @Assimilator702
      @Assimilator702 Před rokem

      1” overlap is perfectly fine. For thicker wraps you. Igor have to make a notch in the areas where the heads overlap the edge of the shell.

    • @samuelpettit9841
      @samuelpettit9841  Před rokem +1

      I spose the beauty of this is it's totally reversible and affordable and as much as I love the matte walnut finish, brown isn't a colour for every gig 😂 I definitely wouldn't do it on this kit if it altered the original finish in any way.
