  • Part 6 of resurrecting my Calibra Turbo 4x4 After 8 Years (filmed July 2020).
    I attempt to replace the valve stem seals, check for play and examine if the guides need replacing, however, I forgot that the big block 16v C20LET head is a deep pocket design, unlike the small block 8v head. I should have researched before jumping into it, due to the lack of instrument I was unable to complete my task due to requiring a long nose plier. On the old 8v heads I used to use pliers to remove and 12mm socket to install the seals.
    I really hope the head is repairable, need to take it to a machine shop that knows about these heads, the last time I spoke to a company, they suggested a deep skim or weld & light skim, both options present a problem to this soft alu head.
    Still can not fathom why the designers of the C20LET utilised relatively small ports and a restrictive intake system. I had in mind to open up the ports on the roof and port match to the gasket to allow better breathing. Well, this is to be continued...
