Days after a 13-year-old girl went missing in Florida, her mother’s boyfriend was arrested and is now considered the prime suspect in her disappearance.
Madeline Soto was reported missing Monday from her home, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office says.
On Wednesday, Stephan Sterns, 37, who is dating Madeline’s mother, was arrested and charged with sexual battery and possession of child sexual abuse material, the sheriff’s office says. He has not been charged in connection with the 13-year-old’s disappearance, but police say he is the prime suspect.

Replay crew! I can't believe some of the schools that don't call home immediately after attendance! I commented this same thing on Audrii, I'm in SWFL, a few hours southwest of Orlando. My kids schools have ALWAYS called home immediately after attendance within an hr or so plus also call home after school hours so I'm just baffled to hear these schools are not doing the same! My oldest is 25, also have a freshman and senior so we've been in the school system for many many years and it's always been the same way regardless of the school or county. My kids start at 7:05 right now, I'll know by 8/8:30 if one of them isn't there. It should be that way everywhere in every school and where it's not it NEEDS to change asap! All parents need to get together, go to school board meetings and demand change since it seems to be a county thing whether they do it or not. We also have life360 on our kids phones so providing they have their phone we always know where they're at! I suggest all parents put it on their kids phones or something similar! Praying they find this young girl safe and sound.
Maybe a smart watch would be a good idea instead of a cell phone that can be snatched away easily. I'm starting to think chipping would be a good idea. Removal upon turning eighteen.
⏰️ I believe a phone call at 15 to 30 minutes late would be more appropriate. Many punch clock jobs have the boss on the phone when somebody's fifteen minutes late, why not kids???
Or, you go into the school to ask their teacher about your child if they are not there when you go to pick them up. Yes! The school should have called when she didn’t come to school that day.

Maddie could have wanted to hide her "drop off" from a schoolmate boyfriend or girlfriend. BUT I am more inclined to agree she left her cell phone because she was fleeing this man or was attacked/kidnapped by Stephan Stearns.
He was probably blackmailing her with photos.

My kids schools since the very beginning have an automated phonecall to let us know they're absent usually by 9:30-10a. It's beyond me why every school doesn't implement that procedure

Praying that Madeline is found safely & something horrible hasn’t happened to her 🙏 Sorry for saying a lot here but I’m just hoping she ran away due to her home situation. A close friend of mine ran away from home at 15, she was found safe & sound a long way from home a month later by police, it was a terrible time but I thank god she was ok ! It was many years before she was willing to tell us why she ran, sadly she & her twin twin sister had been SA’d by one of their brothers for years 😢 He went to prison & she is living a good life now, she is a survivor ❤ I hope that for Madeline🙏💕

My schools always called at the end of the day. I remember in high school skipping class and racing home to answer the call before my dad. They called at 4pm i believe.
It sounds like the mother's boyfriend is lying - that Madeleine wasn't dropped off a distance from the school; that she wasn't dropped off at all. He either took her somewhere or did something to her in the home. And, doesn't sound like a good outcome.

Here in PA we get voicemail, emails from schools, after roll call in the am notifications saying you child is being marked absent if they’re not in class

Most schools where I live doesn’t call until later in the day especially for high school students. Teachers report attendance every class however subs turn in attendance at end of day
I had the craziest gut feeling when the police came out saying that she wasn't actually dropped off at school and he was the last person to see her that it was odd. Couldn't put my finger on it bc it's not unusual to be dropped off a little bit down the road. However, that FEELING in my gut when he said that has just been justified by this arrest.
Had they told us her cell phone was left behind... duh THAT would have been a lot more helpful!!! Maybe a friend or family member would have driven straight over to the house and discovered something being covered up. Normally if your child leaves their cell phone behind, you drive it back over to them. That's what's SUS about Stephen. 🤬
What do you want to bet when she was reported missing the police didn't rush over to check the house within minutes. That should be numero uno on the to-do list.
I am so tired of hearing these heartbreaking stories about beautiful children being turned over to the mommas boyfriend or some kind of Crazy felon! What is wrong with these mothers and fathers!! Just so sad! My heart hearts.

In my area of Michigan there is an app that let's you know within the first hour of school if your kid is tardy, late, unexcused absent etc... for both elementary middle and high school. Idk why these schools don't have something like an app

This is so scary. There is also a 12 yr old girl in Houston missing y’all. What is happening to our kids/ grands? There is a surge and it’s frightening. We have to do better for our kids. Our house is a Safehouse for our subdivision. The bus picks the kids in this subdivision at the end of our driveway. Our kids are all grown but ok. At 6:30 a.m. my kitchen light gets turned on and the kitchen curtain I open, so the kids know someone is here if they need us. It gives them some light also lets anyone creeping that we are watching. The kids can also stand under our roof if it’s raining. Our outside lights are on to. It’s not much but it’s at least a little bit to let the kids know that it’s safe waiting on the bus .
I live an hour east of Orlando. In our school district we would get a call at 10:00am in elementary school. But once in middle school and high school the call is at 6:00 pm. It shocked me how late that they did the call the first few times I got it. And I brought it up to the school and they said that's just how the system works. Hope they find her well.

The no phone call is a issue and makes my mind go crazy. Here in Virginia they've been calling our parents since I was in school. They send out a automated messages by phone call/email. Elementary starts at 845 and I'll have a call by 930 most times. I hope shes found. 😔
