- To the layperson, Jail and Prison could sound like the same thing, but there are major differences you should know about. In today's video we look at the big differences between going to Jail versus going to Prison. What is federal prison like? What kind of crime did these criminals have to commit to be sent to either?

In state prison, you could be eligible for parole, and spend about half your sentence incarcerated. In Fed offenses, you are required to serve 80% of your time. In addition, for visitations, state prisons are within the state (unless its contracted out to a private prison), vs Fed prison could be anywhere in the US (which makes it harder for visits).

Everyone I know are always so excited to go to prison and get out of county.
yup, jail around here does nothing but warehouse without any educational programs at all. Wake up at 6am, head count, eat, go back to sleep, head count, lunch, either get early or let rec which is basically sitting at the table playing cards or watching TV. As someone who's been locked up before there is a lot of miss information in this video. One of the main things is it's different in every state. Like for instance the county I live in doesn't have lockups at each police station everyone is sent to the county jail. Felonies are housed in the same units as misdemeanors
Also at my local jail there's people you have been sitting there for 2+ years awaiting trial. Also jail is not better then prison, yes harder crimes are usually in prison. In prison you get more freedom then you do a jail. For instance you can purchase a TV through the prison and have a TV in your cell

Prison: I'm you, but stronger
Prison: You are weak

I worked in Corrections--and I need to correct the videographer--on the State level, there are different levels: County jail, Work Camp, minimum security, medium security, maximum security and Federal Govt" (SUPERMAX). County Jail is for (as you said) misdemeanors, as well as pre-trial, post-trial, and waiting for a bed to open in a State Prison. A Camp is usually called a Labor Camp, because it is meant for shorter sentences, using work on road crews, fire crews, etc., as a way to get paroled/probated quicker. Minimum--is usually for shorter sentences (below 50 years), and for smaller crimes (A murderer, as opposed to serial murderer). Maximum--is for lifers/ death row/people too dangerous to be in general population/people who could be killed in general population. Most medium and maximum prisons have What is usually call Administrative Segregation, or Adseg--these are for inmates who commit crimes in prison; Inmates who are in danger of being attacked or killed (including convicted police/snitches/child molesters). The ONLY SuperMax in the U.S. is ADX Florence, Colorado, a Federal Penitentiary., the inmates housed there are mostly high profile/insanely dangerous guys, like El Chapo, the Unibomber, The Oklahoma City Bombers, etc.
Thanks for the information
Advance congratulations for 10million 👍🏻❤️

Apparently the difference between jail and prison is mainly jail is for inmates sentenced to less than a year of incarceration, generally either a misdemeanor or a low level felony which could range from anywhere from 1 day to 364 days while prison is for inmates sentenced to anything over a year of incarceration which could be anywhere from a year and a day to life and that would be for more serious felonies. I remember years ago in 2012 doing 3 months in jail for a DUI. I haven't ever stayed in prison though. I guess none of my charges that I ever had were severe enough to qualify for a stay in state prison so I did my time in the county jail.
Prison and Jail both interests me but am not sure i would wanna go to either but if i had to pick it would be even too hard for me to pick between either of them

They’ll send people from prisons to jails when overcrowded, to await trials, transfers, appeals, etc.
Even when sent to prison a lot of inmates (they prefer the term convict) spend a lot of their time in jails.
I’m sure some jails are different but ours was 80% felonies including the murderers, rapists, etc. Shanks are common, drugs are easy to get into jails since they’re always understaffed, violence is sometimes more rampant because they know they’ll be leaving soon anyways to go to their permanent residence.

Simple
Jail: pre-sentencing/misdemeanor sentences
Prison: post-sentence now serving state or federal time
Pretty much.
There was no reason to explain.
Robert Hartman yeah because a lot of people apparently didn’t know 🤦🏾♀️
Apparently you guys didn't read the comments from weeks ago when I posted that
Apparently you thought you had to explain to the whole comments section what the video explained.
Misconceptions:
1. You'd rather be in jail than prison.
No. If you're going to be in for a while then prison is much more free and many more privileges.
2. Prisons are where felon's are.
No. Before one is final sentenced (found guilty) of those charges they are in jail awaiting trial. This often takes a year or two. So in jail you'll find the same violent offenders you will find in prison in a few years.
In the jail in my area you hear people every day say they can't wait to go to prison. These are normally medium security facilities where they can have special Android (like) tablets with games and movies on them, their own TV's, freedom to roam the yard, radios, prison jobs, and is less crowded than jail. I can't express enough how untrue that misconception is (at least) in my area of the US.
Name Withheld there is also another misconception you forgot to mention, several misdemeanor charges can end up throwing inmates to prisons instead of what the narrative thinks that they serve time in jail. For charges being sentenced 2 years or more( of course after they are being convicted from court ) will automatically send to state prison. Normally those misdemeanors will send to minimum custody to serve sentence just like narrative said. But it is not going to be in jail environment for sure. Also that really depends on that charge of misdemeanor for and the various purpose of each prison as well. Some say that if there is a DUI as first offender, they will be offered some rehab program outside prison and will be released if finish that rehabilitation program.
Another misconception is those programs jail offers vs state offers. Obviously, state prison manages way larger than county jail can manage here, so you think all county jails can offer those so called programs for inmates that much? Nah.....don’t think so. State prison has way a lot more resource to conduct those programs for inmates than county jail because state prisons pick up inmates from all corners of the whole state! Duh!
Last but not least, it is about the food. Do you even know it is actually those inmates’ own fault to make those prison food that bad? Because food made in prison never add two major ingredients: salt and yeast! Maybe pepper can be included somehow. Because too much peppers is harmful not only to inmate’s body, but also staff if inmates collect those peppers as contraband. As we all know, salt is the main source to make the food tasty, but salt also can make inmates in hunger strike when they intended to use salt to throw up. Talking about yeast....i pretty sure all inmates know why prison food never put yeast in there, so no explanation needed. In conclusion, you can blame on those who previously commit those infractions while in prisons. State prison only do what they must to avoid any contrabands into the prisons.
In what part of the US are prisoners allowed things like tablets and everything else you mentioned??
@@nickg1722 many parts. They have alot in prisons

Having worked as a Correctional Officer I can say that I actually felt safer when working at a Prison than a Jail. People with long sentences often have accepted that is their home, and want it to stay relatively calm (as much as possible in a prison) It's people with short sentences who act thugish, and make problems for others. We worked 1 Officer to 128 inmates there, and I never felt safer in the prison than when in a pod full of murderers, since they knew how to do their time. This was a Medium security Prison with about 1,500 inmates to 50 Officers. We also had a minimum security complex, as well as a Max housing unit.
Salute!
I was in jail over C's hard times then. Seems like most inmates waiting be sent to prison try causes more problems and violences then short timers. This was in baxley ga. Dealt with it then left 30 days later. I knew if I would have gotten to fight I probably would have been hurt too but I would have done more time maybe assault just for defending myself.
I work as a nurse in jail, we get them straight off the street, high, off their meds, detoxing, angry, crazy as f…, I kinda wonder sometimes if working in prison would be easier…
As a CO myself I can second that. I've restricted myself to prison rather than working at a jail because by the time they hit prison they've calmed down a lot and like you said tend to accept it as their home and keep trouble to a minimum. Hello from the WVDCR
There’s a code of respect in prison… so people watch there every move and how to interact.
Just do your time, it’s not a social club!
Went to jail when I was a teen for DUI. I was shocked! The pod I went to had two TVs, a juice machine, basketball room, and a guard/babysitter watching over the whole time to make sure people didnt fight. Oh and I forgot to mention Monopoly and chess. It was actually more like a day care. My biggest concern was for my friends and family outside. If I didnt have those I would actually love it there if I was homeless.
I hope you've learned your lesson. You seem like a good person.
i wennto jail one time
we loved it make a video about what is insaide a geko
Interesting. I recently interviewed someone for my podcast who spent 10 years in prison.
One thing is not different...
*oops, I drop the soap*
*picks it up* here you go
Dont get it
T-34-85 is basically cat, he means your cheeks are gonna get clapped in either place.
And that’s the word, “clapped”
EthanC 567 but what if you squat and not bend over?
No one:
The infographics show: not joining a gang can be hazardous to your health
Its true though
Diamond Princesd How it’s not gonna get you sick or make you get cancer
An individual is always more vulnerable than a member of a group
@@se7enthedge382 You can do well without a gang. I know a guy who did time in a prison and didn't join a gang, just kept to himself and didn't fw a lot of people.
TJ Bratcher - that’s analogous you saying “you can do well driving in ice/snow without chains”. Obv, but it’s still harder.
I had recently got taken into custody for a suspended license back in August 28th this year. I didn't even know that my license was suspended until after I spoke with my ex-insurance agent, which was back on August 9th. I'm now trying to hire an attorney to help drop the charge, since it is my very first 2nd degree misdemeanor. I have never been in this much trouble with the law up until now. If I could get rid of the charge on my record, I would be relieved
I hope everything turned out well for you
@@axolotl_fan8732 I had beat the case now. I'm just trying to get my life together again
suspended license lol who goes to jail for that

@@saintzayan8205😂 Why are you talking like your entire life was turned upside down for having a suspended license
