It's interesting to note that in the concurrent tournament in Rotterdam, Fucsovic also made it to the final from qualifying, and lost in straight sets as well.
@@Birdylockso fucsovics played a great match though. only had his serve broken once by rublev. I honestly thought that match could've gone either way, but rublev was really on his game.

You can pretend before the match starts that the difference in the ranking is not there...but it is! Number 9 of the world against someone who is around the 150th position. Schwartzman did not even break a sweat.
Maybe not a big deal if they both get direct entry but Cerundolo made it to the final after qualifying. It can take its toll on a player.
prior to this final Francesco had played 3 qualifying matches, and in some of these he had to dig deep to come back from loosing first set, where Diego had just played 3 matches winning in straight sets, Francesco 7 matches, Diego 6 tennis sets, Francesco 19 tennis sets, I mean, Diego was clearly fresher and a better player in this match and Cerundolo knew this before he even started the match.

Schwartzmann is like a smaller, right handed version of Nadal, playing the percentages, being patient, retrieving a lot of balls, waiting for errors and hitting the occasional winner. The last guy his size who was a preeminent clay court player was Eddie Dibbs, although Schwartzmann is faster on his feet. Chang was good too, and Guillermo Coria, but they were a bit bigger. Chang was only 5'7" when he won the French Open but he grew a couple inches shortly after that. Guillermo Coria is 5'9" and slightly built so he was a small guy too.
Would be nice to see swhartzmann win a grand slam on clay. Dont think he has a chance at any others but I can see him winning the french possibly, though thats difficult with nadal around
