How To Remove Scratches From A GPS Disply

  • This has been frustrating me for some time now but I finally got to the bottom of it. In this video I explain how I fixed my GPS display.

    video wrap up, use the polishing compound in the rain x kit with a polishing attachment for a drill and buff the screen

    Dana, one thing I would recommend is that folks might want to put a couple of layers of masking tape around the screen prior to using the sand paper on the drill in order to keep from scratching the plastic housing of the GPS unit. Great video! Keep 'em comin'.

      Thanks Craig, good suggestion. I did that and it came right off. Ended up polishing the sides a little and they needed it too. Wonder if a stronger tape would be in order?

    On my non-touch screen cameras and GPS devices I have used clear shipping tape that works well. When it is worn enough, I peel it off and clean the adhesive residue off and start over.

    Thanks for this very informational video. I have been wondering for a year or two now how to clean the scratches off of my dive computer screen. I didn't want to have to replace the whole screen because as you mentioned, time without your equipment. I'll definitely give this a try.
