A factoid that wasn't mentioned; the sets, like the corridors, were originally supposed to stay white for the whole film. But then one morning when they were shooting the second half of the film, Scott came in and just said paint everything black. Everyone was against it because it wouldn't match the start but he wouldn't budge and made it happen.

Love this series. I watched the trilogy however in reverse order.
Alien 3 was the very first R-rated movie I ever watched so it always held a special place for me. Aliens I ended up watching the tv version first. Only finally watched them in order when I bought the VHS set at a Sears or something.
It would be years later I'd learn about the special editions of each movie. For the first I preferred the theatrical since that's how Ridley wanted it as well. The other two were greatly enhanced by the extra scenes, including 3 which I always felt got a bad rap. All in all each movie is individually good reflecting a vision of every director.
    What fourth movie?

I was 5 when I watched it with her and was nearly traumatized when they stumbled upon that girl that had the xenomorph about to break from her chest. NEARLY. It was startling to see that at 5, especially when she is panicking and telling them to kill her before it springs from her chest. HAHA but I just wanted to watch the movie again and again.

People shit on Alien 3 a lot more than they should, imo. Sure, it's not as great as the first two movies but it was still a well-made movie. I think a lot of folks were disappointed that the story didn't play out in a satisfying way that they thought Ripley deserved. But I just like the vibe of the movie, there's a definite sense of finality to it like you're watching the end of something grand.

@@OSW I would HOPE that younger people would give it an honest chance. Again, context is important, and I think you guys did a good job explaining that, yes, this is amazing because a lot of this had never been done before, and so, so many things have been influenced by it. That's the true power of these classics, that I'm afraid a lot of kids just don't get. Maybe it requires a little bit of age and wisdom to really "get" it. I confess, I preferred the sequel when I was younger, because at the time I didn't really understand what Ridley Scott was doing with the original: a slasher in space. With apologies, I happened to be a film major...I could talk about this stuff forever. Oh yeah, you should have gone deeper into the whole Jodorowski story and its influence on Alien. You know, I actually mostly liked Resurrection. The human cast other than clone-Ripley are deeply forgettable, but I really liked how it felt it was genuinely trying to do something new with the franchise, blurring the lines between human and alien, and running with the themes of disturbing cross-species sexuality that the first one had. Plus, I liked how they bought Weaver back without invalidating the end of 3, and let her do new things with the character.

I can point to three tiny things in this movie that don't hold up on a technical level:
    1. The chestburster running away (it should've jumped)
    2. The full body shot of the Alien when it's attacking Lambert and Parker because it looks too much like a puppet despite being a guy in a suit
    3. The jump cut when they're messing with Ash's remains (that one you see in the review isn't an edit to trick the algorithm; it's really like that in the movie)
For those about to point to the death hug in the vents: that was bad direction, not a crack in the budget :P
Doesn't matter though, it's still my favourite movie ever.

TV and print ads said: "In space, no one can hear you scream." I saw "Alien" in the same ex-Cinerama theater that had shown "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968) and "Star Wars" (1977). The slowly appearing line segments of the title and Jerry Goldsmith's music made us tense. The "Star Wars-y" look of the "Nostromo" was a relief...until we saw the tube-like interiors.
Although "it takes a crew to make a movie," the director without a good screenplay is...lost. Ridley Scott, instead of taking us to the Alien Homeworld, had a slightly upgraded Bender Bending Rodriguez be the "kill all Humans" Alien maker because he's got a God complex. So the "pot-Aliens" movies are mostly dead/nonexistent for me. Sic transit gloria.

After you're deep into medical, there are only two moments throughout the entire game I can recall where the Alien is teleported while it's "in play," and that's just to trigger a cutscene.
