So what does the dots do for the air filter when you open and close it the dots won’t change so they could change the filter. Plus no mechanic is going to take major parts off because it’s to much time and work they aren’t being paid for

The air filter is not the concern, I have seen some replace the air filter box with another to create a vacuum leak to upsell . Again, I am not taking anything away from mechanics, most are honest , but there are the few dodgy ones.
