Best videos I've ever seen on CZcams in any film post-production category. This stuff is on point! I bought the course, that will change your life. I've probably saved years of screwing around like an amateur
Dan my brother. You the real OG. Thank you for reppin for me brother. Had a lot of fun putting this one together. Feels good to see that people are loving it.
Amateur? Dude you just release a film! :P Qazi was the cherry and final push back! i get a feeling that the regulars of this channel will be setting the Cinema World on fire in a couple of years... Watch out Korean wave!! lol
@@jannasc haha. That's wassup!
@@jannasc Haha hell yeah!
@@jannasc hehe
I saw this commercial on your website. It was absolutely stunning! I was blown away. Black & white is more nuanced than most people realize. You nailed it. The range from white to black and all the in-between grays were breath-taking. As important as the cinematographer's contribution was, yours was just as comparable and took it to the next level. In my humble opinion, the colorist's credit should be pulled out of the post list and put after the cinematographer's. You've proved that!
Loved this video, amazing information and a great addition to your course. I’m halfway through and already retouched a lot of my old videos. It’s a night and day difference. Thank you for this gold!
Music to my ears. So glad you're doing that. Learn and apply 😉👊🏽
dude you re killing it.....
damn...
this is pro stuff...
Your channel consistently gets better, you have blown away all the rest that "try" teach color grading. I only hope that you offer your Masterclass later in the year again. An honest big THANK YOU from me for all that you have already given for free, it's mind blowing.
Thank you, James. I appreciate the words, seriously. Masterclass will be offered later this year as of now. I wish you could join this time around. Still 1:30 mins left waqasqazi.podia.com/freelance-colorist 😀
Finding your channel during this time has been great!!!! I’m a freelance Dp/Cam Op/Drone op and I’ve been wanting to take color seriously for years. I’ve dusted off Resolve and getting back into coloring just to have that knowledge and some skill set in my back pocket whilst I’m shooting stuff on set. I’ve been looking at CZcams tutorials and your is by far the best!!! Not only how you explain and show things but you are a PRO working colorist!!! I loving seeing all the Behind the scenes of all the high end stuff you do. You have a big fan in me!!
Much appreciate the love brother. I mean it. There is more where that came from 😀
Really thankful for this. I love how you break this down from scene to scene and grouping. I learned in film school about correction then grade. Not really a colorist but wanted to expand my knowledge on this. Really hard to balance correcting each scene by scene. I find grading just one whole so it is much easier but balancing light and contrast is still my weakness. This helps a lot. Was hoping to for this back in the older videos. Thank you.
Glad to hear that, brother. You're welcome.
I'm in tears, your videos are too amazing and they are changing my game
haha. Thank you so much.
This is great! Good to see a real world scenario. I love your no BS approach to all your videos..keep them coming! You're a true profesh
Thank you so much, brother. Much more to come.
Every single video you post is a value bomb. Thank you so much
Appreciate it
Hej Qazi, you're hitting the nail on the head. Enjoy your videos very much . Please continue the breakdowns. Keep up the good work. I bought the course during your live training the other day...man, I am glad I did. Thank you for sharing your knowledge . Extraordinary.
Will do brother. Thank you for the kind words. Really appreciate it. And let's freaking go!!! I am stoked for you.
wow nicely done, mate. love watching you go through these step-by-step.
and all the best to those who enrolled in the Masterclass
Thank you brother. We have over 700 members in FCM as of 02/14/20. I am so humbled. Thank you for your support.
Dude, yes. Please make more of these. This was really helpful and interesting
Of course. Thank you, brother.
I found you by chance and loved the content you're putting out for FREE. And just based on your personality and how you carry yourself, I can tell you are very genuine and are doing this to help us fellow videographers and filmmakers become better! This is the first time I've ever spent money on a masterclass that I have found valuable, as it's very hard for me to see value and trust in someone's class. Keep up the work, the only thing I'm a bit unhappy is the amount of time I have to wait to download all the content before I can start the class. I really really want to start it now, but I have to wait a few days just to download the files with my OK internet lol. Anyways, can't wait to learn!
Let's go!!! So stoked to have you as part of the FCM culture.
This was really amazing- I could watch these for days on-end! Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome. I'm gonna be doing more of these. Not every client is as generous. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
Waqas Qazi Absolutely. Not only are you dropping massive knowledge, you are super-relatable!
Beautiful look!
Thank you so much
After a long tiime i wached this tutorial again...o my godddd...its freaking awesome...its like a notes that u always keep safe❤️
Let's go. I gotchu 💪🏽
So dope. Can't wait for you to do more content like this. It doesn't go unnoticed and it's stuff like this that brings people like me to purchase your masterclass. You provide so much value.
Thank you brother. I was on the fence with this one but decided to go with my gut. Glad, people are enjoying it.
I'll see you in FCM. DM me when you join. 😉
At first I didn't know where that fire was from and how would it match the rest of the video but once I saw the final graded version I have to say that the orange colour from the exhaust really made the clubs performance pop out! Like in a car commercial, the exhaust means power/speed same here... I agree with them on this one, good choice! and amazing grading! Thanks for the content!
Thank you, brother. I know I was skeptical at first as well but it came out looking juicy af.
MAN... This is phototographer/editor po... pure happiness! What a great end product (and tutorial). Ps: thanks for the client letting you share it to the world
Thank you. I know, it turned out so great. Client is more than generous.

Diving into the all sides of the business, Qazi the CZcams breaker!
democratizing color grading one video at a time. 💪🏽
lovely
Thank you
Bro, you're just color tamer!!! The best!!! )
😀 thank you
Good video. For those who are using a mouse, you can always turn the opacity of a layer down to 25-50% to give more nuanced controls. This is a old school photoshop power tip, for getting more refined control on curve adjustment layers, works on resolve too!
Thank you. Good tip although that's not the point of what I was saying. I just meant that it's never the same. The Tactile feel for the panel is unmatched.
Waqas Qazi true! Thanks for your advice
Awesome!
thanks
You Awesome brotha ❤️

😀 that's important
Definitely subscribing :D great tutorial !
Thank you, Sasha. I appreciate your sub 😀
Yeah! This one was goood!
thank you so much
Thanks! Is there any difference
use Color Space Transform first node or Primaries first?
For the look I would have personally used log instead of primaries. Great job!!!!
This video makes me want to get an Arri.
No lie. Me too.
38:11 ninja star of the old Contax Zeiss AEG lenses. Wondering what focal length is that...
To be honest I really want your channel to blow up, but at the same time I want your channel to be our little secret.
😂 a genuine lol I know what you mean.
rammstein's video "deutschland' is graded so awesome, would be nice to see how to get that look of these scenes by your way in davinci.
I will check it out. Thanks
You are the coolest man. Totally subscribed :) I put my money on you having a million subscribers by 2021. I'll do my bit to help that.
haha. thank you so much brother. I am aiming for it.
wow this was amazing man ! thanks so much, learned a lot ! i have two questions ! what is the difference between the highlight (used for bringing back the detail in window lights) and highlight option in log wheels? couldn't you use that log wheel for bringing down the brightness? and my 2nd question is that somewhere in the video you increased the contrast and then you said you had to increase the gamma. doesn't this make your footage noisy?? cause it brings up the shadows too! Thanks again.
the one is the LOG wheel is more harsh and doesn't look as natural as the highlights parameter I used. It has much gentler roll offs.
You Pimp "" Thanks Waqas
thank you
I thought selective colour was a bit passé but this has just smoked that theory. Brilliant again.
Same, I initially had an eye roll moment but checked myself and took it as a challenge to kill it on the grading floor.
Hi Qazi, amazing tutorial! Why don't you use Color Space Transform especially for LOG sources?
I don't want anything messing with my footage. I like to build it from the ground up so I can take full control. Using LUTs or any kind of conversion is like using Brake Assist in Forza or Gran Turismo. You can get a 3rd place but for the 1st place trophy you better turn all the assist features off and put in the work. 😂 Didn't prep this, it just came out. I guess, I miss Gran Turismo.
😍😍😍
😀
DAMN!!!
😀
Jeeeez!!
💪🏽
Outta The Park !!
thank you so much
I really like your video. A lot of helpful tips. I’m just wondering how you set up you project. Do you use Resolve’s color management? How do interpret the footage? Is your timeline sowing rec709? Have a beautiful day!
Thanks. Default
How do you decide which lever you should push or pull of?
I talk you through it
Hello. I'm interested in the course. However, I'd like to know: does it comprise downloadable lessons so we can go back and review things over and over?
yes you get lifettime access. Join and hit me up when you do.
Do they record everything on Prores 422 HQ with the Alexa LF? doesn't get less information by not recording or sent to you the raw files?
wasn't all recorded in 422 just some.
Hi Qazi, how long did you take to grade this spot?
Under a day
Salam o Alaikum brother. Can u just elaborate the method of pulling out specific color/s in a b&w grade. I am still confused about when to use parallel/layer mixers to get the job done.
parallel node has to be created over the black and white conversion node so it's pulling information from the colored node.
Thanks for the response bro. I would like to see more of b&w or tinted grading content in future. Wishing u all the best!
Hi Qazi. Round trip is usually a headache- xml and aaf. What’s your way around that?
bake and blade
Waqas, At 34:25, you said: "If you guys have used "Grizoff's tracking..." - What is a Grizoff? Thanks!
Resolve's tracking*
@@theqazman Thank you!
If it’s not a round trip project, do clients bake in visual effects? In this video for example it has the logo for that barn shot. It would be difficult to color if those were already on right?
Go through my conform module and you'll know the good, the bad, and the ugly of confirming. 😀
I knew you were gonna say that...👍
Mike Redding I'm saying that cuz you're in my class, right?
Of course I am!
...but the question popped in to my head so I ha to type it before I forgot it. lol. More as a mental reference point than anything else.
When I select the blue key, the color turns to trash, but if I cut the link, it's back to normal. can you expalin that ?
share footage for traning
When working with clients and pictures is locked. The client sends to the video file. Do you need to cut up the shot by shot to color each shot individually or does the client provide it already cut somehow
Two ways to go about it. One is called round trip the other on is bake and blade.
Hi Qazi. Round trip is usually a headache- xml and aaf. What’s your way around that?
Hilary Gabriel bake and blade. Bring in a clean version and scene cut it in resolve.
What's the keyboard shortcut to rename a node?
Its a custom shortcut "tab"
@@theqazman where do I find it in keyboard shortcuts again?
Any idea why some of the shots were ProRes 422, and then others were ProRes 4444?
DJI vs arri
🌹 🌹🌹
How long did you work on the entire spot? Must have been a week!
😂 I wish. Between 6-8 hours.
Waqas Qazi I‘m depressed now 😉
Ronald Kasper 😂😂😂 you should be happy to know the timeline required for the quality that is expected. Practice makes you faster. 💪🏽
Where’s buy your luts?
😂 no LUTs brother I just show you the way to do it yourself
Waqas Qazi 👍🏿
I'm sorry but at 42:25 that was the worst hug/greeting I've ever witnessed throughout my human existence. Nonetheless, a great commercial and an impressive grade.
😂out of my control.
