Couple of tips to save time. The factory rivets have a steel pin in the middle that can be easily knocked out using a pin punch and hammer. Then drill out using a 1/4” bit and pliers to keep the rivet from spinning. Best to align the door glass rivets to the access holes first, remove them and tape the window closed.
The Doorman regulator I got came with nuts and bolts to use in place of rivets- only thing is, when you insert the bolts in the window sash, put them in so you are facing the nut, otherwise the bolt threads will catch and stop the window from opening fully.
Same with the lower regulator bolts ( replacement came with threaded inserts and bolts) luckily I had a couple of shorter 10mm head bolts and the window worked properly after that.
When you put the new regulator in, finger tighten the two top bolts first- that will help align the lower rivets or bolts instead of it flopping all around.
A final note- power window switches and sockets are subjected to spills and drips which leads to corrosion and intermittent contact. Clean the contacts and apply some dielectric grease, while you have it apart.
Thanks for the vid! 👍
Damn! I wish I had read your comments before grinding the shit out of those rivets. Messed up the frame and probably some of the holes. 🤦🏼♂️ may have to use nuts and bolts.
Thanks so much for the helpful hints. Though I am just a girl...I successfully did the driver's window on my 24' RV, a Ford E450. They wanted close to $500 to do it at the repair shop. They think you have an endless pocketbook if you are an RV owner. The hardest part was the rivets. I wasted nearly a whole set of drill bits...The pin punch is the ticket. Then grind off the outer aluminum of the rivet & tap the rivet out with a small screwdriver & a hammer. I didn't find this vid until several hours into my r & r. Wish I had found this vid first!!!!! Mission accomplished & very HAPPY about it!!! Thank you so much!
Nice, take that extra step...next level stuff!👍
This is amazing. It made it so much easier. Thank
NO NONONO the rivet pin will not punch out easily BULL FUCKING SHIT
Thanks for the video. Stinks that we have to do the pop riveting. My old Chrysler Pacifica was just all bolts so much easier.
Thank you so much for this video. You actually saved me $300 for labor I was going to paid for something that took me 1 hour and $90 dollars for the part . Good looking
Happy to help.
Man thanks for this video. My drivers side regulator broke this last Sunday. Then today the passenger side. For the moment i needed to just get the glass up. Took about 15 minutes each side. Now to save up to get the parts. Thanks again. Your a life saver.
Thank you so much! I followed your video, and I now have a working window again!
I just did the exact same thing using your video. Excellent exquisite. Those rivets are hard rivets and they need a really good bit. I had to do the same thing you did and grind the heads off. Went smoothly worked well and it took about a 45 minutes

Thank you.
Fantastic video - exactly what I needed - thanks!!
Thank you.
Does the orientation of the motor make a difference? I put mine it thinking the holes did not line up. I put two bolts in it. The window will not roll up all the way. The only thing I can think of is the orientation of the motor..
I changed out mine for the first time and I drilled through all the rivets and I feel and I know that others would agree with what I have to say about nuts and bolts versus rivets nuts and bolts is the way to go because I bought one off Amazon and it made life a lot much easier to put back on and I bought the driver side and the passenger side. It looks pretty uncomfortable using that rivet gun
Well done brother!!
Thanks so much!
Good vid helped alot
Great video I subscribed
Thank you.
glass in drivers door of my 2003 E350 just fell inside the door. this repair does not look too terrible but why rivets instead of nuts and bolts? at age 61, I have never owned or used a rivet tool. thx for video
You can do bolts or rivets. Rivits came with this regulator and if you have the tool, it is faster and easier to use them. If you use bolts be sure to use lock washers or blue locktite, or they will come loose.
A total newbie here with a very basic question, when you drill out the rivers are you using the reverse (pulling the rivet out) or the forward (pushing trhu) in your drill?
Forward you are drilling it out. Rivets aren't threaded.
Do you think I could get by with a regular pop rivet gun?
The rivets are to small, you could use nuts and bolts.
Thanks for letting us know we will need a "Riveter" .... More than halway through the video .... Thanks a Bunch.
You're.....welcome....
What size drill bit and what pop rivet material are you using 🤔
It has been a while if I didn't say in the video I don't know on the size. As for the rivets they are, aluminum they came with the regulator, you'll want to use a drill bit the same size as the shaft on the pop rivits.
@@GrimRepair thank you for responding 👍
@@IRONW00F m6x1.0 is the nut and bolt size that came with the spare regulator I have on the shelf.
9 rivets total you have to do in case anyone wondering - total pain in the @ss - i do a lot of window motors and never had to deal with rivets before - and you better have 9 bolts and 9 nuts on hand for putting it back together - M6 x 1.0
@anarky4321 I don't remember there being 9 rivits?
@@GrimRepair you're right my bad its 7 - 3 on the motor, 2 on the bottom support and 2 on the window support
the regulators I linked in the description come with fasteners
What size rivets do I use?
@@loujodilp idk, they came with the regulator.
@@GrimRepair You would think that is something you would know,On this video you fast froward past the drilling of the rivets WTF
@jak11631 The rivit has to fit inside the hole you make with the drill bit, so take the bit to the hardware store and match it up. You will have to measure the thikness of the things being rivites to come up with the grip length. Or if you had bought the regulators linked in the description, they would have come with fasteners.
@@loujodilp m6 x1.0 is the nut and bolt size that came with the regulator that I have on the shelf.
Thanks for the video, very helpful and well done. Would you happen to remember what size the rivets were? I'm pretty sure the one I ordered didn't come with them. Thanks!
I don't remember.
I believe 1/4"
You can use bolts also
@@solideogloria7987 Thx..I appreciate it. Ended up using bolts
@@GrimRepair Of course The rivets are the most difficult thig with this job and you fast forward past that part and you know nothing WHAT THE FUCK
@jak11631 @jak11631 I work on a lot of stuff, sorry I don't remember the size of a fastener. This video was filmed how long ago? I used the rivets that came with the regulator. No one is going to watch minutes worth of me drilling out rivits, just respecting the viewers time with this free informational video. Good luck with whatever you have going on.
Thanks for watching!
I really appreciate you posting this but I am now seasick from all the camera movement. I suggest a stand next time.
