In Bonanza, Ben Cartwright is the patriarch of an all-male Nevada ranching family. Set during and after the Civil War, "Bonanza" is the story of life on the family's thousand-acre spread, known as the Ponderosa, near Virginia City. Ben has his three sons, each with a different (and deceased) mother. Serious eldest son Adam hopes to follow in his father's footsteps; middle son Hoss is a gentle giant -- physically strong, but sometimes naive; and youngest son Little Joe is the most impetuous and romantic of the offspring.
The title "Bonanza" is a term used by miners in regard to a large vein or deposit of silver ore, from Spanish bonanza (prosperity) and commonly refers to the 1859 revelation of the Comstock Lode of rich silver ore mines under the town of Virginia City, not far from the fictional Ponderosa Ranch that the Cartwright family operated. The show's theme song, also titled "Bonanza", became a hit song. Only instrumental renditions, absent Ray Evans' lyrics, were used during the series's long run.
In 2002, Bonanza was ranked No. 43 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time, and in 2013 TV Guide included it in its list of The 60 Greatest Dramas of All Time. The time period for the television series is roughly between 1861 (Season 1) and 1867 (Season 13) during and shortly after the American Civil War.
During the summer of 1972, NBC aired reruns of episodes from the 1967-1970 period in prime time on Tuesday evening under the title Ponderosa.

I loved watching Bonanza when I was a kid. It's one of the greatest western shows of all time.♥️🤠🐎
We strongly concur! Missing those days 😁
When my brother and I were little we would see the show. After it finished we go to bed. We kept seeing it until it went off the air. I still watch all the reruns of the show. They do not make shows like this anymore.
Same thing with my sister and myself when we were little
Nothing but crap on TV now
Thank you for this commemoration of our beloved Bonanza actors.
The music is fitting too.
I only wished a more flattering photo of Pernell as an older man was posted.
All the Best!
Thanks for watching! We're so glad you enjoyed this video and Bonanza. What other types of videos would you like to see?
Pernell, the best, my favorite, he has had a huge career, and I like all his work, Bonanza was a little part of his great career.
Yet he is mostly known for his role on Bonanza.
Surprised to see that only one person could cross 80 !!
Maybe its their diet, their food or lifestyle who knows...

De niña, siempre estuve enamorada de Michael Landon. ❤️🇨🇱
Michael Landon 54, dear heavens, what brilliance. He would have shown us so much more today!
I love Bonanza. Hoss is my favorite.
Bonanza. Gunsmoke. The Trinity series. Clint eastwood and john wayne westerns. Its been 55 years since i started watching bonanza as a kid. Still enjoy watching today. Reminds me of sitting next to the heat vent when our furnace was a coal burner.
Ich liebe diese Serie über alles die kann ich immer wieder sehen
Esta serie Bonanza y Laramie fueron las que siempre vi y las que mas me gustaron
I miss Cartwright family 😥❤️😥 lovely family ❤️
Maravillosa serie de television...
I loved Bonanza! Also Wagon Train, Laramie, Gunsmoke, Branded and of course the Lone Ranger! I grew up wanting to be a cowboy, which was rather difficult here in the UK. Living on pig farms but I had some great locations to act out my imaginary gunfights and 'stunts'. When my dad moved over from pig farming to cattle when I was eight years old, I got the chance to actually 'Head 'em up and move 'em out!' (all the way to the dairy for milking!). I never burnt a map in the name of my Bonanza moments, But show me a big puddle or a stream and I had to gallop through it! (no horse of course!) and in Gloucetershire from the age of three, I discovered my 'Hi Ho Hills' for when I was the Lone Ranger!
Fun stuff, thanks for sharing! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Thank you for sharing!!
I miss them so bad it hurts like hell
I truly loved this show! Lorene Greene was my favorite. Pat Pernelle really lost out with his bad attitude. This was a great family show teaching the world right from wrong. I loved Hoss too! Just loved them all Ben was my favorite without a doubt... Thanks for sharing! Blessings....❤️💕
Pernell Roberts
Michael Landon was 54 but looked like he was 60-70, drinking vodka daily and smoking 4 packs daily damaged his body
Dan Blocker was 43 but looked like he was 50-55, eating alot of fatty food daily and smoking daily damaged his body.

Omg I was so young when I use to watch this
6 or 7 now am in my 30s
To this day the show is still good.
The Cartwright's were always, wise, good, generous and loving. All fictional traits for a TV show that we wish existed.
Lorne Greene actually died in 1987, not 1989.
He also was Canadian 🇨🇦
Todos actores 💚 grandiosos ❤
Gracias por recordarlos ❤
Loved the show all of tham was so wonderful and funny
We're glad to know that you love the show! Which episode was the most compelling to you?

Thanks for watching! We're so glad you enjoyed this video. What other types of videos would you like to see?
Compared to today's live span (2021) they were so young!
Facts verse here's one for you...could you do one on all those beautiful ladies whom guest stared on the show, so many beautiful ladies through out the series.
Thank you for the suggestion! We won't promise you anything but we'll look into it ❣
Weren't there three Indians last year?
Mam 61 filmy mojego dzieciństwa super
Never cared for Vogel. Not a real Cartwright. They only brought him in to attract the younger audience.
What is that? What about handsome Tim Matheson who played 'Griff?'. Thank God he is still alive like Mitch.
*Me quickly clicks 🤠
Realy me too
😂
It killed a lot out of me to watch this... They were all eternal to me. This has to be Fake and they are all living happily ever after in Ponderosas or Big Bear Lake or Halcomb Valley.
You are mistaken about Lorne Greene's death. He didn't die in 1989. He actually died in 1987.
Só está vivo o Adans , como você fala em 2022
Lorne Greene died 1987
Very happy 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
Actually Lorene Green died in 1987. Plus they left out Lou Frizzell who played Dusty and Tim Matheson who played Griff.
Not first lol
They are all deceased. There is no now or 2022 for them!
Once again as a blind person who listens to these videos. I truly just like the ones that only have music and show clips with absolutely no dialogue to put anything in reference for those of us who are visually impaired or blind. It says cast members then and now. Does not make any sense just playing a bunch of clips. Especially since every cast member I am pretty sure has Long since passed away.
Yes there is a young kid red head he was 14 hes 64 now the only one still alive
you have it wrong in the guy williams posting it should be 1963 not 1959 that was zorro's final season 5 years before he did bonanza then he traded his six gun for a laser gun when playing professor john robinson on lost in space on cbs from 1965 to 1968.
each time I read that Lorne Green passed away from something else, so which is it?
Hi Hanna! Quite a few comments have posted that there are errors in the information posted here. That's a shame...to go to this effort to present this and then some of it may be inaccurate. What are we fans suppose to think?
The who Cast are all deceased
May the Lord have mercy on your souls..
Mike Landons most laughable comment came from an appearance on the Tonight Show with Carson. Jonny made a comment about as there was only males at the ponderosa ranch. That maybe something else was going on. ( referred to them possibly being gay).
Landon replied. No. No. We’re not gay. But thank god hopsing is!
Who is Will Cartwright? I don't know him. What role did he play?
Will Cartwright was nephew to Ben.
@@karencox446 Ok.Thank you.
all the main people from the show died before now, so how can you show pictures of what they looked like now ?
Michael Landon was very good looking, always,, but I was not a fan of him, his character. He was a selfish individual & could be cruel, confirmed by Melissa Sue Anderson (aka Mary Ingalls). His stories on Johnny Carson I heard from someone else, so who was the real story teller? Especially the rabbit being dug up by a dog. Loved L.H.O.T.P. But nah he was not my cuppa tea.
Some of the cast members made an obscene amount of money just for writing theme songs for other TV shows. This just added to the uneven distribution of wealth in the business and our country itself. So called actor "Michael Landon" must've been ashamed of his real father, as he changed his birth name?! All in all, some of the cast appeared to have been 'Prima Donnas' on AND off set . Bonanza was a waste of TV airtime, at least how I saw it. The series was a 'haven' for greed and just a way to make money instead of honing acting skills.
Now is probably RIP. There's your answer. Thank me soon.
Z
They're all dead.
Then and now? You should show their skeletons for the now, since they're all dead.
Alot of the cast are all dead and gone
I refuse to watch this show anymore. They have a viewer discretion warning before each episode. Pray tell me, what exactly dies this show have that needs this type of warning? Sucking up to something perhaps? They can just take it off completely.
Spoiler alert!
They are all dead
