Hello everyone, in today's video we will be talking about the Disappearance of Margaret Page (41 at the time) and her cat Miya.
They Disappeared on February 10, 2012 in the Gila National Forest, New Mexico.
They started out on the Railroad Canyon Trail and at some point got off to explore some deeper areas. Margaret was an experienced hiker and knew the area well.
She found a small creek and set up her camp only intending to be out for a couple of days and didn't have any extra food.
She had parked her car at the Railroad Canyon Campground. By February 14th when she had not returned, her family contacted the stated police and reported her missing. Sadly due to several errors no search got started despite her car being spotted by two separate US Forest Service agents. One saw the car 2 weeks after she went missing. This agent didn't report it to the State Police until 10 days later..
It wasn't until 3.5 weeks after she disappeared that a search got started.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Margaret, her family and loved ones and her cat🙏
Thoughts and prayers for all the search and rescue teams involved in her search 🙏

Please see the video I just posted on Thomas Lee Robison (58) & his dog who went a week ago 04/21/2024 in Grand Canyon National Park. A massive search is under way..
Oh my gosh…how refreshing to have one with a happy ending! ❤
Yes! I always like when they have good endings🙏🙏thank you for watching and all your comments🙏🙏
Yes, I am always happy for the people and the animals. Her cat probably helped keep her warm & alive.
Yes!!!!!
agreed! :)
@@aazhie definitely! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Missing over 3 weeks before search was started? Wow!!! Let this be a lesson to those of us who hike. WE are our own first responders, and are smart to file a trip p[an with expected check in calls with a trusted friend or family member. Also carrying overnight survival supplies and multiple signaling devices is a good idea. Glad Margaret and Mia made it.
Talk about incompetence! So glad they were found alive
Yes, the SAR crews were very upset that they got no notification because if they had they would have been out ASAP! thank you for watching🙏
I think her survival comes down to her being able to set a camp, stay put, stay dry and avoiding hypothermia. Great video!
And she had water. There was no mention of her building a fire to keep warm or. cook anything kitty might catch/
Cat helped keep her warm.
So glad they are both well. I live in this area and State Goverment is grossly incompetent.
God definitely was with her
What a great story. Maybe her love of her cat kept her going.
And her cat probably helped keep her warm & alive.
That kittie is the reason she was still alive.
Helping to keep her warm, undoubtedly she was also eating what the kittie was catching.
The cat saved her life. They can be little heaters in the sleeping bag.
100%. What a good kitty
Cats know . Good kitty.
Just there yesterday! Passed the Railroad Campground on 152! (Roads have No railings….😮) Very, very remote. Gorgeous wilderness. Vast. But NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE should hike alone. Trails can split….game trails, not real trail. So happy to hear of this happy ending.
Yes...same in Northern Arizona small mountain roads with no guardrails... If one goes over a cliff good chance nobody will ever find you !!!
Amazing
@@tc2425that’s how the Inyo National Forest in California is.
It's a miracle she survived. No thanks to those inept authorities.
Or her family tbh
I was thinking the same thing. Why weren't they pushing the search???
I’m kind of wondering why her family wasn’t searching, I don’t know if their health or finances etc wouldn’t allow it, I just know if that were my daughter I’d be searching until I couldn’t walk anymore , I told my daughter as much since she continues hiking, so for Christmas she got a Garmin and fully loaded survival bag. So very happy this lady survived and everything worked out, never knew kitties could be hiking partners:) thanks Bryan
Same here. I also would never, ever, hike or camp alone, even 2 people are not enough and I sure wouldn't put my pets in danger by taking them out like that.
Exactly, I'm vicariously hurt and angry about that. If they had even just hounded the cops and forest rangers it would have started sooner. An apathetic family/lack of advocates allows the cops to also be apathetic and lazy about finding you.
@@nunya2954 everyone is different 😊
I wondered about that too. I would be searching also.
Personal Locator Beacon
Oh wow… I really wasn’t expecting a positive outcome from this tale, especially given such a catalogue of missed opportunities to start a search sooner. I’m so glad that both Margaret and Miya were ok after this lengthy ordeal.
Thank you, Bryan! It’s so good to hear a story with such a happy outcome for once - I’ve never heard of this case before.
I’ve taken my cats away with me on holidays within the UK, but never thought to go hiking with them!
Bryan you are the most gentle sweet person and I love this channel. So so so glad this story had a happy ending...I was preparing for the worst. Plus I love cats!
Omg I can’t believe she’s was found alive. Thank God and her cat. Bless them! Three weeks and two days of food. A miracle ❤😂
WOW!! That's absolutely amazing!!! What a great story and ending!! 😊 Soooo glad she and her precious kitty🐈 were found alive!!! ❤ Thank you so much for your awesome videos!!!
Yes I thought it was an incredible story too! Thank you for your kind words and for watching🙏🙏
I live in the Gila National forest, I remember this very well
Nice! How do you like it there? I've never even been to the state but I want to! Thank you for watching and sharing🙏🙏
Thank goodness she had such a good kitty with her.
Bryan, I live in northern New Mexico, about 45 minutes northwest of Santa Fe. There are few "safe" times to hike by yourself in this state. We have had snow in June and September. There is still some snow on the mountain tops today. If it's not snowing, then the wind can knock you over, with gusts up to 35mph or more. And then the summer! I got a second degree burn on my legs from the sun one time when I didn't think I'd need to apply sunscreen on a cloudy day! This is a beautiful state, and I love it here, but I know not to treat time outside lightly.
My kittie loves being up on the mountain. It is the drive up and back that is heck for all of us in the car.
OMG! She survived all that time! Shame on the Service Providers for dropping the ball.
I hope the cat Miya is okay now, bless htat angel.....
I hope so too! She must be pretty elderly at this point, since it's 12 years later (and judging by the picture kitty was likely 1.5 - 2 years at a minimum at the time of the hike.)
Great ending! 🐈⬛🐾🐾🐾❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
I was born and spent some of my childhood in Silver City, NM. The mañana culture definitely exists there. No one is in a rush to do anything.
The problem with that culture is you waste time of your living waiting for tomorrow to do anything.
@@nunya2954it also means no sense of urgency when one is needed.
Cat?! Wow.
Yep! Unbelievable! The cat was actually in pretty good shape when they found them.. pretty unbelievable! Thanks for watching!
My cat goes everywhere with me😻
Amazing As Always and an incredible Story!!
thanks as always for watching! 🙏🙏
Thank you Bryan! What a great outcome to a story that started so sad. Ended much better than I anticipated. Thank you for sharing & God bless! 😊
Love this story and had not heard of it.. Thank you for sharing!!
Me too! Thank you for watching and always your kind words 🙏🙏
I've been to the Gila cliff dwellings several times, Beautiful area...
Thank goodness they're both ok 💓
Oh, how nice...you are a cat dad. I should have known! 🐱🐈🐾🐾
So glad to hear they were saved! Great video, as always, Bryan.
Yes me too! Thank you for watching and your thoughts🙏🙏
Hello Bryan! Great story and so grateful she survived! Thank you for your kind compassionate telling of her story!! Take care til next time 😊😊😊
Happy ending, I love it❤
Wow, what an amazing story, Bryan! So glad for a happy ending-for the lady and her cat❤
Wow, never thought of hiking with a kitty but why not. Someone down the road has a mini pig that plays at the dog park.
Thank you Bryan, i really appreciate everything you do. You make a positive difference in more lives than you realize. I hope to one day soon show my support financially .
I've actually done it myself.. it's rough especially if you're trying to hike more than a day or so. It's not only the weight of the cat you're carrying but ask the extra food and water too.
But yes this story was incredible!
Thank you for watching and your kind words and feedback🙏🙏
How do the dogs handle the pig in the park?
@@thegreencat9947 Its a very nice park but surprisingly I rarely if ever see dogs there. We're a big college town (SUNY Geneseo in New York). I think the students are only allowed cats and small animals. I'd assume some dogs would see bacon on stubby legs lol
@@allenrussell6135 oh my gosh...does some student have a pet pig in the dorms? I hear they are very intelligent. Maybe it's an agricultural project?🐖🐷😁
As I child we visited NM - I’ll never forget the western entrance to Mammoth Cave KY.
They call it Carlsbad.
Hi Bryan!
I've never heard of this story before so thank you for the video. I think it's odd it took them 3 weeks to search for Margaret and her cat Miya, but I'm so glad that they were found safe and are doing well. I hope you are having a good week! btw there was a pastor in Pinehurst who had went missing walking to his church yesterday and unfortunately he was found south of Pinehurst in a wooded area deceased so would you please keep his family in your prayers, thank you.
Timber
Yes of course I will🙏what happened? I mean was he killed or did he just die of natural causes?? Sounds awful:( I'm very sorry to hear that and yes of course I'll 🙏 thank you as always for watching and your comments! I hope you're having a good week! 🙏🙏
@@bawattsyl thank you! I think he was abducted and killed and it happened around 5:30 am yesterday and he was found around 5:30 pm last night. His name was Gene Jacobs. Yes it is really awful ☹️ you're welcome, and thank you! Also thank you for all you do and the extra mile you go to help the missing and their families and your SAR when you are able to!

What a great ending 👏 god bless everyone.
Such a great outcome !!! I bet her smily was so happy to see her.
So glad to hear she survived.
Great Photography Bryan! Always watch your videos right away when it pops up! You do a great job.. keep ‘em coming! Hope you’re well & healthy..
GOD bless 🙋♀️
My Goodness I was afraid you would say there was no trace of them both. So glad this ended well for them both. I luv tortie cats & have one old one now about 16+ years old. I have 16 cats I feed & all are rescues except a stray I have named Barnie MacFloof. He is here part of the time. This case, there is no excuse when someone is in danger as she was. Why did they not do what they were supposed to do according to there protocol. I know they had to have had protocol in place w/ a state park. No excuses. It was not *Margaret & Miya's* time to die ... it was not😻💖💞 they kept each other warm & cats purr & purr & purr it's a comfort
I love your cats name!!! ❤️👍
So happy to hear she survived and her cat too!! From NM here and did not hear anything about this!!
Absolutely incredible, Bryan! You are right about the joy of a happy ending! Even though the weather wasn’t terrible her lack of food and freezing nights for that period of time makes their survival astounding. What a shame that those rangers were so negligent about reporting her car! Thank goodness the searchers were in time to save them! Love that she takes her cat and that they are still hiking❣️🐅
I live close to the Gila and many hikers have gotten lost due to ignorance and/or injuries. The Forest is huge and has suffered from wildfires and erosion. Our SAR members are great and committed. Thank you for sharing this story.
Same
Nah.
🤡👉 NOT SEARCHING FOR SOMEONE FOR ALMOST A MONTH IS INEXCUSABLE.
Not the fault of SAR. They started searching as soon as they knew. Sounds like her vehicle being towed was LE covering up their end.
This is my fear that if I went missing and no one would look for me. Even my family!!
My cat mostly sleeps. She's a cute furball, but not much of a hiker.
Yes so does mine. See even though they are "domesticated" they still have their instincts. Felines sleep a lot because in nature they need to hunt a lot. Anyway thank you for watching and sharing! What kind of cat?
Fantastic. Despite a botched beginning to the search, we have a happy ending! I like it.
wow. and thank you Bryan .🫶🏼🙏🏼
Aloha Bryan! I agree with you, love these happy, positive outcomes too!😊
The SAR team really had it together. She was blessed and super lucky they found her. God Bless. NW ga.
I'm so happy Margaret and Miya were both found alive! I'm a long time subscriber of your channel, and seeing this video pop up on my feed was eerie for me, as my name is also Margaret Page!
Excellent story and a great ending.
God Bless You Bryan, for sharing this Story . ❤ We all know who was watching over Margaret and Cat . MYIA . I GIVE PRAISE TO GOD .for her Rescue .❤
I am so happy this had a happy ending😊
I have a house in Silver City and often drive on 152. It is an absolutely beautiful area but very desolate. So glad Margaret and her cat made it out
Starting a search 3 and a 1/2 weeks after she went missing. Might as well have been 3 and a 1/2 months! Terrible. I can’t believe they found her alive. She must’ve had access to clean water and minor food. She probably only had days left. Sounds incredibly lucky.
Every day is quite the adventure for us, but not the lost and found in the wilderness kind.
She’s taking a risk hiking solo off trail but she made it and I’m happy she’s ok
This is quite a story of survival and good to know that some of these tales do have happy endings! I can’t believe Margaret went that long with little or no food! 😎
They should have been sued. They didn't do their jobs. Why would you respect her for not "rocking the boat"? I mean, she has the right to do what she wants, but did these folks who didn't do their jobs ever experience consequences for leaving her out there for a month?
If they operate this way with the next person that comes up missing it might not be a happy ending. I think they should have been held accountable!
Absolute FANTASTIC case 🌹😁
Tack !
👵🏻🇸🇪
Wow, what a blessing to have survived that long. Happy ending to hear. 😮❤
I am a regular of this area, the railroad canyon campground is 1.5 hour drive from my house. I LOVE camping in that area, but that mountain range is ROUGH. The Gila is a wild place and has claimed many lives. Some have never been found. I’m glad she survived
ALWAYS...... ALWAYS take more provisions than you think you might need!!! Things happen. Remember, you are your best chance to survive a catastrophe!!!
It's amazing that she lived through this! Very nice to have a happy ending. I have camped in that area and it is wonderful because it IS so isolated. I was with another person and we were well prepared and experienced and had a terrific time in the beautiful solitude. Very unfortunate that authorities dropped the ball after the parents alerted about her missing. Great story and heroic gal!
Love your channel. Hope you’re feeling better and you will be well soon 😊
During these stories it would be a good idea to teach the lesson of how not to let this happen to you. Have a commitment from a friend or family member that you will call them when you get out of the woods. If you don't call by the due time, then they contact you or call search and rescue or the sheriff's department. That way you're being looked for immediately and time does not pass. Every day counts.
Also a satellite locator rescue bacon would have saved her life much earlier.
The fact that she and kitty were found alive was a big surprise! I may need to take my kitty next time I head out on the trail.
I bet the cat kept her warm in the sleeping bag. Animals can be little heaters.
Good story coverage. I’m so happy that woman made it with her cat. Wow that was a miracle boy did they screw that one up but thank God someone was on her side.
Oh my gosh, I was not expecting a happy ending here, especially with the screw-ups with the authorities delaying the search and towing the vehicle! And oh, the kitty, too
Congratulations to her survival
The cat was very good luck for sure.
These 'rangers'. Is pot legal there? Sounds like a bunch of total stoners? Bill and Ted?, or a Monty Python parody...
Always let people know where and when you will be.
This is crazy, thank God they finally found her.
.God Bless her and cat.
.
It’s NM. Been here 38 years. Government jobs are a dream come true. No oversight, do nothing, get paid, retire well. Thank god for the volunteer search and rescue teams.
So pleased both were found alive, hopefully she won’t go off the trail again, they were lucky !
People can live a long time with no food if they have water
Thanks so much for covering this case, Bryan. God bless Margaret and her precious kitty!
Of course🙏thank you for watching and your feedback 🙏🙏
I'm glad this story has a happy ending. I hope Mia was hunting
So remote that even Hwy 90 from Lordsburg to Silver City ... last spring we drove this and we saw only 3 cars the whole route !!!
She went by Herself? Why ? It's just not normal times We're living in anymore. There's alot of weird, crazy , sketchy etc things going on , especially in Our national parks
It was in 2012.
It's way worse now than it was 12 yrs ago, since trump made so many people homeless with his COVID bs that he pretended wasn't real with over 1 million dead.
Margaret deliberately went off trail? 🇨🇦🍁thank you for having such a caring heart Bryan. 😻
Holding officials accountable if they were negligent isn't 'pitching a fit'.
Great story. Thank you.
I am so glad things turned out well in the end❤
Glad she was still alive.
So,soo great Report!!!!
So wounderful.......❤😊👍🍀🤗🙏🇨🇭
What a fiasco!!She and the cat have great Guardian Angels!!I hope she gets a Personal Locator.
Amazing they both survived!
Wow! Amazing story! The authorities dropped the ball as usual!
I have hiked the continental divide trail twice through the area it's rugged and she should have had an spot gps finder just press a button and they come find you .The forest service really dropped the ball but not surprising they don't like to get to far from their car's .She had some skills, she stayed alive and sane most would not have.
The gps finders are not that much and are easy to use. All could have been avoided and these searches sometimes they send you the bill for it.
Do you have a GPS finder that you recommend?
@@mc-si7vq It used to be a company called Spot but any REI store can help you they sell thousands a year.
@@mc-si7vq You can also get an app for your phone for the major trails on the PCT I could track my progress as I went, water, miles hiked, elev gain and descent so it was hard to get lost.
What a relief thought this was going to be tragic.happy ending brilliant.
Beautiful post Brian. I love the happy endings too.
wow! surprise in this story! truly amazing
My parents live in central “Santa Clara” go hiking all the time there!! Love the Gila wilderness!!
Omg a happy ending !!! So thankful !🙏🏼
I’m glad she was okay. That can be a scary situation.
YEA! FOUND THIS ONE! THANK YOU LORD! 😊 🕊✝️🙏💜🕊
the cat was getting food for her❤They saw her car parked in the same spot for days and didn't report it, only dumb luck (and the cat, who I'm sure is no dummy) got her saved
Great story and amazing survival for her. Hopefully, she will put a note in the window of her car so someone can see when she got there and hopefully when she is/was supposed to be back.
