- RYANAIR Trip Report (operated by BUZZ) flying from Vienna to Skiathos onboard one of the Ryanair Boeing 737 equipped with Sky Interior on a lovely day in Vienna but cloudy and really windy in Skiathos.
An amazing flight from Vienna to Skiathos with Ryanair. Flying to one of the shortest runways in Europe is always a very exciting trip. That was the case today: with just 1.570 meters length, Skiathos runways are among the shortest runways in Europe, and for sure the shortest one for a Boeing 737. Also the shortest one in all the Ryanair network. But not only that: it is also very narrow, just 30m wide! (45m in Vienna, for example).
The flight was very comfortable. As it took place at the very end of the summer peak season, while the flight from Skiathos to Vienna was fully booked, ours was around 50%. Therefore, we enjoyed a huge space for every passenger. From recent videos that we were talking about the legroom in another airlines, I think that you will be surprised when watching the one that Ryanair offers on the Sky Interior airplanes.

It was £39.99 one way and 1p back. So had to be booked as a return package. I’m talking many years ago when they flew the 737-200 and older planes.
I fly with Ryanair a lot from London Stansted to Krakow in Poland (1hr 55min), and for a solo traveller on a budget, they are the perfect airline. Never had a problem, never had a reason to complain either. Love Ryanair, and I love the Boeing 737-8 too! Great video!

Ryanair are the very best. Unbelievable value for money. I recall flying to London, from Shannon for one euro. I missed the flight. No problem, got on the next one at no extra charge. Still one euro. You rthe best... I am flying to Stanstead from Knock with my daughter for Christamas for e55 return, for both of us. You the best.

Great video and loved the internal shots of passengers looking out when banking. Makes a change from the usual wing and engine views and well thought out with the sun rising etc. Much prefer your non-talking trip reports to those where the curator always have to give their thoughts!

Uf, no me gustan los vuelos que salen tan temprano. Te toca un madrugón que no veas. En tu caso valió muchísimo la pena con la espectacular luz del amanecer. Vaya aterrizaje más chulo. Llevo años volando con Ryanair y es una compañía que no falla.
Para mi esos vuelos son siempre los mejores. Una paz total en cabina, pues todos van durmiendo, y la luz del amanecer al otro lado de la ventanilla. Eso sí, como bien dices, el levantarse tan temprano es matador!!
Por cierto! Mañana toca el primer Trip Report con Emirates del canal! :))

In my more than 350 flights with them, I've never had a single bad experience :)

Buen vídeo, vaya madrugón te pegaste para coger ese avión que por cierto el sky interior esta muy bien y lo mejor sin duda el aterrizaje duro pero es dadas las circunstancias y con viento cruzado encima escaso de pista el piloto lo hizo perfecto. Un cordial saludo

Ryanair are a great value airline and the main reason there is so many low cost airlines now
I've flown around 400 times with them and I never had a single problem. That's the truth. Of course, I always respected the handbag size and everything.

To be honest, I did around 350-400 flights with Ryanair and I never had a single problem. Just once a 4h delay, but the reason were storms over the airport that didn't allow to enter ainy plane for any airline for 2-3 hours.
Considering the short runway and the conditions, seemed like an acceptable landing

Amazing report! I'm not sure right but I think, you could recognise if a B737 has the Sky Interior or not by 2 things:
1. Strobe lights: The light is a bit longer than the older ones (~1-2 seconds) and they're more white.
2. Taxi/Landing lights: They appear to be more white than the older ones.
What do you think?
What you describe are the LED lights vs the allogen ones. Every Sky Interior b737 has the led ones, but b737 with the old cabin might have them if they were implemented by maintenance. 👍

As far as I know, Ryanair follows the landing technique stated by Boeing on the manuals.

¡Gran video Lucas!. Los PAX muchas veces exageran las cosas, como los aterrizajes duros. Siempre tengo presente, que si hay aterrizaje duro, "toma dura, toma segura".
Si hay viento cruzado, como es el caso a lo que hay que sumar la pista tan corta en JSI, normal que se tenga que aterrizar duro, pero vamos, que por un aterrizaje así no va a pasar nada.
Recuerdo todavía en mi primer vuelo, que fue de ALC a CGN el 19 de Febrero de 2018 (FR1356, Boeing 737-8AS con registro EI-EGD) al llegar a CGN el aterrizaje fue duro e inmediatamente se frenó con todo, pero nada del otro jueves. Por suerte, también he tenido aterrizajes suaves o más normalillos, pero un aterrizaje duro no es algo como para quejarse creo yo.

Thats a firm landing. After a hard one, any plane requires a maintenance check ✈️
needed to be firm as the runway is very short! If you try and butter it then you will run out of runway to slow down!

A firm landing absorbs energy from the aircraft.
Firm landing is the best and safest option with crosswind. During the flare, the wind can push the plane out of the runway. By doing a very small flare the plane touches the runway as soon as possible and that risk is mitigated.

The landing is perfect. In Skiathos you dont have time do fleare, thats why you just need to put the plane down on the runway to avoide overrunning the runway. (That is just my knowledge as an flightsimmer :) )

Muy chulo e interesante el vídeo, si no me equivoco con viento cruzado los aterrizajes siempre se suelen hacer así, durillos y tocando pista con una parte del tren de aterrizaje antes que con la otra, no?
Mas o menos , se intenta poder tocar con las dos a la vez , por comodidad de los pasajeros. Pero en general esta bien para como es la pista y como venia en viento 💨

Con viento cruzado se suele usar la técnica del "de-crab". Básicamente, en vuelo el avión va aproado al viento (apuntando al viento para contrarrestarlo). A unos 50 pies de la pista se usa el rudder (el timón vertical de la cola) para enderezar el morro del avión. Al hacer eso, el viento comenzaría a sacar de la pista al avión. Esto se evita inclinando un poco las alas hacia el viento. De ahí que con viento cruzado se toque con una rueda primero (concretamente la que está del lado que viene el viento).
Espero haberlo explicado de forma entendible 😅😅
El que se aterrice más duro con viento cruzado es para poner el avión cuanto antes en la pista y evitar que el viento pueda jugar una mala pasada.

They are called positive landings. After a hard landing, the plane must be reviewed by engineers.
Definitely it is a short runway, but there is another low-cost airline,called GOL, which operates in a 1320 meters runway in Rio de Janeiro domestic airport. IATA code SDU.

Antwerp airport is 1505 Meters long and host B737 and A320 charter traffic sometimes.
Antwerp has 1.510 meters. I've never seen a B737-800 landing there. The maximum was B737-700. With very low wait, it might be possible to land a B737-800, I don't know...
Back when the terrorist atacks where happening on Brussels Zaventem Airport, all the A320/737's where diverted to Antwerp. It is possible.
It was I hard touchdown but I give 9 out of 10

That's correct, and that's on the very extreme limit of both planes.
That landing stopped very early! Could vacate first left, great pilots for not delaying it a little bit by backtracking :D Though you must've felt the breaking force

antwerp airport has a shorter runway they only fly tuifly belgium there you need to try it
Every time I fly with Ryanair i have no problem some landings it's good some aren't but it's very simple to fly with Ryanair low Fares and take me to my destination on time... Ryanair low Fares made simple
