This movie was panned by critics, but personally I loved it. My wife and I both love it. It never fails to wring the emotions out of both of us. I won't say it's Robin Williams best work, but it's right up there. It deserved better.
@@allelitetyler9526it looks like millions of dollars were lost in making this movie because of critics. It didn’t do as well as it should’ve when it came out
I miss Robin Williams. I never met him, but his films were a big part of my life growing up. There was something genuine about him in the roles he took up. You can tell when an actor is putting their heart and soul into something compared to those that were there for a job.
I agree. Sadly, it bombed at the box office making only about 87 million on a 100 million dollar budget. I think it was too cerebral for casual filmgoers. There are actually a lot of deeper human frailties explored in the movie. Kind of funny that the beginning of the movie takes place in 2005 and here we are 18 years after that and still no household robots!
The end of this movie makes me cry, because all Andrew ever wanted was to be acknowledged as a person so that he could legitimize what he felt. People saw the genius clown in Robin Williams, but didn't always see the emotive, sensitive actor.
I just finished rewatching it about twenty minutes ago - I remembered it was better that it's reputation suggested, but I had forgotten just how damn good this film actually is.
this movie is one of the few that makes me cry at the end with its honest story of growing and learning. no guns. no superficial bs. just a robat that wants to learn to be human, to becoae something more. and to love. the robot sees the connections we have and take for granted but still wants them. even through loss an journey. 100 years to become a real man. RW makes the humor just enough so its not a stand up specail or something that wouldnt have been spoken. i do miss him. i grew up with him that first time on tv on happy days. he became something more than mork. you could see it. they say happy days died when they jumped the shark but that was the moment for me when they brought another universe into their little home on tv. RW special on HBO was the next greatest moment i saw him. young (full of cocaine it seemed although he prob was never in need of it) he made everyone of those faces cry in laughter and i bet their faces hurt after that. then he did his own mork show and got away with a little less on tv but still for the kids he played to them and the adults under the radar. his movies were always fun but this one i think captured his child into an adult with more heart in a robot shell. it was serious but light. i do miss him. but at least we have movies like these and all he made to keep us smiling and remembering him til we are gone. pass this one on to your kids. its worth it. and ill always stop to watch it when it is on from where ever i tune in til the end. i love that cry at the end i get.
I miss him... my father committed suicide on the 2nd of august 2014 and Robin did it a week later...it felt like i lost two fathers to depression...I grew up with his movies and it felt always so heartwarming. As he wanted us to feel loved and secure and having a grea time / memory.
They couldnt of gotten anybody better for this role . You see him young and in his prime hard to believe he is gone and has been for a long time. I miss Robin Williams he was such a great man 😭
The Bicentennial Man, Batman (1989), Spider-Man (2002), Cloverfield, Rebel Without a Cause, and Back to the Future were the films that caused me to fall in love with cinema. They taught me more about humanity than any real world experience ever had, at such a young age.
I’m 26 years old and I’ve never seen this movie, but now I want to. Within the past few years, I’ve been going back to watch the movies I always used to walk past at blockbuster or the library as a kid. I’ve seen the cover of the movie countless times, but now I’m stepping foot into the past. For example, I watched the Rocketeer, Scott Pilgrim, the Truman show, and many others recently and it makes me feel nostalgic.
I dont understand how this movie wasnt more loved - I watched it for the first time only a few years ago and holy crap it was phenomenal. Was it just too ahead of its time or something?
This is such a wonderful tale. We need it's references and time events updated and get it rereleased for today's audiences to discover and to hopefully imagine a better future-present in place of some of the negativity flooding the world and spark young imaginations towards bringing it into reality.
Every time I see this film it makes me laugh smile and cry it gets your heart and with Robin at the helm you know you will be so happy we miss you sir 😢
I miss Robin Williams... he would have been a voice of reason in this world of madness we live in these days.. I hope he finally found his peace.. Also: Zelda Williams, your dad is one of those people that 'got it'.. the man might not have been perfect, but his spirit surely was.. I wish you all the best, please take care of yourself and savor every moment you have with your loved ones..
Strange. Listened to the audio book a few days ago. Never knew it was an Asimov story. (shame on me!) Love Asimov and generally like books far better than their movie adaptations. The Bicentennial Man novelette is pretty flat, emotionally. The film is ALIVE, funny, dramatic, profound and bittersweet. It's absolutely wonderful and watching Robin Williams now is intensely bittersweet. Tortured artist / comedic genius. We didn't deserve him.
Yes, but the actual robot did die… In the form of Mr. Williams. That’s why I wanna watch this movie again, to keep his memory alive. also, you can hear aspects of this song at the end, and you look at me. That’s the name of this song, but you can hear is orchestration throughout the movie. You know who sings it at the end, so I won’t be up early. However, keep her in your prayers. She is unable to perform right now, and this has been stated on CZcams as well as other places.
"The Robot Costume From Bicentennial Man!", Adam Savage has a video on it, and there are a few stories he tells as well. hopefully it is okay that i mention the video here.
I was going through a really hard time and this movie was my sanctuary. I watched it so may times. Sometimes even when you are sad you can be a lifeline for others. Thank you Robin, I was able to move on and help others because this help me get through those difficult times.
Absolutely loved this film, I was so happy getting this on DVD, this and the Mattix being my first owned DVD’s. Was surprised this film didn’t do well at the box office
I think this movie wasn't more popular because it simply touches on too many issues of mortality and the emotions involved. It makes it somewhat difficult to watch, and isn't the kind of movie people generally want to watch more than once. I think there was also some expectations that since Robin was in it it would be lighter and funnier, when the core subjects are very serious.
God i miss Robin Williams... Such a fantastic actor / comedian. May he rest in peace 🙏
Amen!
Truly one-of-a-kind individual
❤Amen. He was so absolutely amazing. I cried so hard when I heard he took his own life.
😔I miss him.

Who cares what critics think?
I too put this movie up there in my top 5 or 10. Man from Earth, Contact are both up there w/ this one.
I love the story too. It's wonderful.
Indeed

LOVED this film, never understood why it wasn't given more praise. Such a great message.
My MOST FAVORITE movie, amongst many from Robin. 🌱
This film should've been more prased and seen. All I want is people giving it a spin more often.

Robin as Andrew, with Celine Dion in the soundtrack. I love this picture.
I think it was too campy for most people.
This film deserves a better reaction. It touched me and I watch it again and again👍
My family always loved it. Shocked to hear it didn't perform well.
My favorite Robin Williams movie ever!
One of my favorite films of all time.
The end of this movie makes me cry, because all Andrew ever wanted was to be acknowledged as a person so that he could legitimize what he felt. People saw the genius clown in Robin Williams, but didn't always see the emotive, sensitive actor.
I love this movie! Rewatching it now.
Me to!

Shame mister williams didn’t care for the movie…
The shot of Robin in the suit without pants or hands is something I didn’t think I’d ever see.
It's basically me on a Sunday morning 😂😂😂😂
I'm 53 and still cry at the end of this movie. And now that Robin is no longer among us, even more so. 😭😭😭
"It was a pleasure to serve the great Andrew Martin" gets me every damn time.
I love this movie. It definitely needs more attention.
Love this movie to the world and back! I Miss Robin ALOT, he was 1 of a kind as a person and actor.

That is horrible, so sorry to hear that. Unbelievable it's been almost 10 years!
It's 2023 and I still don't have my robot. I am very disappointed. :P
That and my flying DeLorean from 2015.
Don’t be disappointed: I've seen too many documentaries where owning a robot does not end well. Especially the T200.
It's 2023 and I still don't have my personal ROBIN WILLIAMS. That's even more disappointing! 😂
Be glad that 2012 didn't end like depicted in 2012 from the Mayan calendar 😅

One of the most beautiful and "complex" movie EVER made !!!
Robin should have gotten an Emmy for this film or even do I dare say an oscar...
Emmy awards are for television. Oscars are for theatrical films.
You mean a golden globe or an Oscar.
@@DocDoccus sorry my bad...
The funniest scene is when he discovered humor and told a bunch of jokes in quick succession. I can't help but laugh.

I remember walking out of the movie theater after seeing this when I was 12 and thinking "this is my new favorite movie!"
Are you sure you were 10? Cause if you were born in 1987 then you were 10 in 97' but 12 in 1999 which is when the movie 🍿🎥 came out in the theaters. 😅

great movie and what dreams may come was another great with Robin Williams
I very much remember this movie back in the day. It was a big renter at the video store.

i love this movie, Robin was the only person who could portray Andrew.
I don't know why Andrew reminds me something of the essence of Data the robot from star trek the next generation series 😮😊
I watched this movie a long time ago. I will be checking my DVD collection to see if I have a copy. It will be nice to watch it again.
I love this movie!

2005. I just felt physical pain.
This movie got way worse reviews than it deserved. I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The ending still gets me. =(
It's a good movie but it failed at the box office when it shouldn't of happened
I need to rewatch this movie. I haven't seen it since I was a kid.
The world could never get enough of Robin.
I graduated highschool in 2005, and most of my teachers then were robots.
So good seeing and hearing Robin Williams again.
