  • Hi loves!! I am so excited to be able to share with you my experience when I stopped using Leave on AHA/BHA SERUMS, masks, harsh physical exfoliation. I did this because I was noticing my skin was not responding very well anymore and becoming super sensitive. I will share with you other details and what I am using.

It used to be really smooth, and now I have texture, red patches, dry patches, red marks from folliculitis, and it is just weird all around. I used to apply a minimal amount of foundation and now, it seems like there is so much I need to cover! Thank you for all the information! I hope to resolve my skin issues too!

    Hi Elle, I am experiencing all of the signs of over exfoliating... peeing patches red irritated way way more oil than I used to have... texture. No foundations are working bc my skin hates everything and I have so much to cover!! I use tretinoin Monday Wednesday and Friday and then I use DHC AhA serum Tuesdays Thursdays and sometimes Saturdays. It was starting to work. My skin looked great for two weeks. Then boom it went to crap again. Is this too much? I’m just trying to get even texture and smaller pores. I live for the day I don’t have to wear full coverage!! You said you were stopping acids but are you still using retinol’s during the week? I use other serums and oils from skinceuticals and sanitas and Sunday Riley tidal and cerave. I just can’t seem To get a good routine to make my skin look good I am seriously considering using this product I just want to know if I should be using my dr prescribed reitnol during the week and how often if at all I should use an AHA serum? I never had this much skin issues till about 10 months ago. I was a tru believer in Sunday Riley Luna Good Genes and tidal and rose hip oil and it seems like over the course of two weeks my skin changed and it wasn’t working anymore. I became extremely textured oily and omg the lines and wrinkles that were never there before!! Iv been on this journey of figuring out what is right for about 10 months now and I’m just dying for some help......you look beautiful as always!!!!

      NO acid in serum form or anything that STAYS on ur skin is very different to how she is using it now... Dif is you get the exfoliation but its not as harsh. I love acids, but sometimes using them in toners, serums, creams AND strong masks, can get to be TOO MUCH. My skin reacted too. SO I cut down. NOT quit. Which means instead of using acids that stay on your skin overnight I only used it in my cleanser and did the baby facial from drunk elephant only once a month. AND started recovering the health of my skin barrier which can be altered if you use too many acids in many forms for too long. (and for some people it doesn't have too be too long- all skin types are Dif and every persons skin changes- specially women´s skin- hormones, weather, environment, even stress!) So, recovering: ceramics, peptides, egg factor, fatty acids in ingredients, probiotics etc.

    I can’t use AHA or BHA without a severe reaction, unfortunately. When my skin reacts to something it almost looks like chemical burns; they’re angry, red, inflamed - sores almost - that take forever to heal. They go through that itchy, then tight, then dry to peeling and the new skin is sensitive under what’s peeled off all over again. I can only apply thick moisture to those, Aquafor is the best healing ointment for me. It used to be creamy Vaseline but for some reason they stopped making that 😒 It takes a good solid week to 2 weeks to heal that damage from a bad facial skin reaction for me. I’ve learned to stay away from those types of acids altogether, I don’t care what magical benefit it touts!!! It certainly isn’t benefiting me in any way at all whatsoever LOL
    I can barely handle Retin-A, only using it every other night and only over my thicker nighttime moisturizer, as recommended by a dermatologist. And it’s worked phenomenally. I can feel and see a difference in only about a month now. You have about as much of the same amount of sun spots and Melasma that I do. I’m going to slowly start a hydroquinone treatment (alternating between Murad Rapid Dark Spot Corrector & MD Complete Dark Spot Corrector) on the every other nights that I’m not doing the Retin-A to see how my skin handles that. I know theoretically that you can use both on the same night, I just don’t trust that my skin can tolerate that. Going to specifically target those particular problem areas and not rub it all over to really gauge if it does anything to lighten those darkened spots. Got the best little cotton swabs on Amazon for this purpose, they’re originally sold for use in applying individual lash extensions but I thought they’d be perfect for targeting small spots without soaking up & wasting too much product.

    Eerrrr... I see you the same..! Maybe "I'm blind" and can't notice the difference, sorry..! Anyway, it's good that your skin is feeling better with this new product, if you think acids were damaging your skin. The truth is I follow you, and I kind of think you use a lot of products and acids... I've changed my moisturizer cream and sunscreen twice, because it irritated my skin face, also broke me out. I've only used The Ordinary Hyaluronic + B5; just got Yeouth vit C & E serum which contains hyaluronic acid as well, so I will stop using The Ordinary one to try the Yeouth serum.

      @@mariestopa Hi, Maria..! We both follow youtube channels like everybody else because we like what some youtubers proyect through their videos, wether they are funny, informative or interesting. I'm not saying Elle is not "best at what she does", like you pointed out, I'm only saying that I've seen a lot of videos where she mentions acids are good and necessary for skincare and out of the blue, she says they are not and recommends to try another simpler product, which by the way, contain acids too. Every product she use, she recommends; nobody is forced to buy these products but if followers like me decides to buy 'em, it's ok, it's our money anyway. Another detail, Maria: I think nobody is attacking Elle here, but expressing what they feel in regards this video. It is obvious Elle has a huge amount of followers and all these comments, trying to understand Elle "choices" and "recommendations", just shows that she is watched. Every video Elle uploads, she needs to explain to avoid any confusion and keep her followers but you attacking people's ideas or opinions is not good for her image. That is what I think, again, not attacking anyone nor you.

    Yes! I thought I was the only one who thought my skin got WORSE from strong acids. All the products that promised baby smooth skin (DE TLC Serum, SR Good Genes, DDG Peel Pads) seem to do the exact opposite for me...larger pores, more textured skin, more redness and irritation. I thought my decent skin had just randomly morphed into sucky skin over the course of a few months, but nope, I’m about 99% sure it was just the acids. 🙅🏻‍♀️

    Let me preface this by saying I love your channel, I’ve watched probably every single video, and I’ve really learned so much about skincare, ingredients, what to use when, how much, etc.,and my skin thanks you for it!
    That being said, this is beginning to get confusing, and is a topic that has caused me to be skeptical of many “skin care” channels. Mainly because products change quickly, opinions shift easily, and your “ask the doctor” series is the perfect example of just how different opinions of even professionals can be, and I see the reason for that, but to a certain degree, eventually I have ask when other variables come in to play.
    Just as an example, for so long you were raving about the Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads, which so many people rave about as well because they do work, and I would agree.
    But here is this new peel, also full of acids, just different ones. So what happens if this should affect your skin in a not so beneficial way along the line? Will it be on to the next? And that’s not even considering that this is sponsored content, because I trust you as an influencer so it’s not of any important to me.
    However, since this is an influencer channel, so many products are sent to you for consideration and review, in addition to all that you purchase on your own to stay on top of what’s new out there. Which on one hand I find to be great, but on the other, the information is beginning to blur and get confusing when constantly moving on to the next new product, brand, or ingredient. Obviously that’s not something that is realistic for most consumers.

      Thank you love! Means a lot that you have so much support for my channel. I have always changed up my skincare even when I wasn't on here. Always trying the new thing to see if it works for me and my clients. Why not try something new, what if it is better then the thing you used before? you would never know if you didn't try. I haven't changed my mind on those pads (in the video I explain why I was looking for something new) just trying something new. Also my and so many other peoples opinions do change over time depending on what skin needs at that time. Skin is not a one size fits all, it is individual. Also It is also part of my job to try new things out and I would be doing a disservice if I didn't tell you guys. I never talk about something just for the sake of talking. I take the trust and respect of the squad why to seriously to do that :)

    • @BlackThorndRose
      @BlackThorndRose Před 5 lety +1

      Elle Leary Artistry Of course, I completely understand all that you’ve said and it makes perfect sense. My skincare routine also obviously changes as my skin changes, when I have problems with texture or breakouts, and now especially that aging is slowly becoming a more important factor, I need to take that into consideration.
      But for you, because you’re a professional, it’s like second nature to you to know what to do, what your skin needs, and how to switch up your products for your skin to fully benefit from what you’re treating it with.
      But for someone like me it can get very confusing, sometimes it’s just like information overload!
      But I’m of course going to continue to support your channel, I’m a huge fan, love your content, and watch all of your videos.
      I would even love to connect with you via Instantgo to get your opinion on a personal level, I’m saving up and very excited for that!

      @BrownEyes71 Před 5 lety

      BlackThornRose127 I do agree with you I have been supporting Elle for a long time and I agree it’s product overload to me as well simply because I have to buy all these products I don’t get anything sent to me which I think is great for Elle so she can keep us informed of what’s the best and if it works but the normal consumer I would have to say most of them are on a budget especially if they have children and spending $95 dollars on pads is just not in most families budgets yes I think skincare is important but my grandmother passed away with beautiful skin at the age of 84 and all she ever used was ponds cold cream and a bottle of oil of Olay that’s it. I feel like some experts are going overboard on all these skincare products it’s just too much it’s getting ridiculous in my opinion. I love Elle and will always support her but it’s just not financially smart nor in my budget to start this regime and start a new one because new products keep popping up on Facebook feeds or Instagram. Companies have gotten to the point where they will lie or whatever to draw in the consumer and people are buying into it.! Same way with this eating organic and gluten-free crap I read the other day on my carton of eggs that they were gluten free come on now eggs don’t even contain gluten and this is just a pinch of the stuff I see and it’s sad to see so many people fall for it.! Elle will always be my #1 go to skincare channel but I just can’t jump on every new bandwagon of products every time one is launched. :)

    • @BlackThorndRose
      @BlackThorndRose Před 5 lety

      selenia carrico I can understand that, but it’s not exactly where I was going with my comment. I’m obviously not going to purchase this product for the simple fact that I already have a set skincare routine, and even though it could definitely improve, it’s not really a budget issue for me. As a consumer, I really appreciate the more simplistic videos she does, they’re easier to understand from a non-professional view. This video was about stopping acids in serums and even pads like the Dr. Dennis Gross peels pads (which I use in my routine) to switch to this product, which as best as she explained it, didn’t really make sense in my head. On the other hand, I can see how it worked for her skin, you can see in the video it made a significant difference, so there was obviously a purpose for it, and one that worked. I completely trust Elle, even with a sponsored video I’m 100% sure she would never try to sell something she didn’t whole heartedly believe in. The trust factor isn’t the issue, at least for me. Also, I can see it from the other side too. I’m a hairstylist, so when I see stylists here on CZcams make a video, there’s nothing they say or do or use that I don’t understand, because that is my profession. But I do see a ton of comments of consumers who are completely confused and don’t understand why that person used a certain product, or a certain technique over another. The way skincare is like second nature to Elle, haircare is to me. So I get it.
      It was just a lot, especially after seeing the doctor series, and seeing so many different opinions and views from pro’s, it just gets to be confusing when you’re looking to figure out what’s best for your own skin. That’s all I was saying.

      I used the DDG peel pads based on a video I saw Elle do months ago and only used them for two weeks and they completely messed up my skin and I looked like I had chemical burns over my entire face, very red and dry with peeling skin. Just a word of caution if you have sensitive skin, be very careful using these. I bought the mild ones too and still had what looked like chemical burns. And I have sensitive skin too, with rosacea, but my rosacea is pretty much controlled these days, but it still took me at least 4 weeks of intensive moisture therapy using MedLine moisturiezer several times a day to get my skin back to the way it was before I used those pads. I will never use any peel pads on my skin ever again.

We normally tell our patients to stop their use of Retin A a few days prior to that type of peel and to not to restart the Retin A until 4/5 days after a peel to assure your skin barrier is healed and intact.

    Elle,
    The packaging says to rinse off after the step 2 which I have been doing. Do you rinse off?

    Gorgeous. You don’t need foundation! How were you incorporating tretinoin into your routine during this challenge?

    Your skin looks amazing. I don’t use a lot of acids. I wish my skin looked that good 😊😊
