Grasshopper PowerFold vs Hydraulic Deck Lift Options

  • This video explains the two separate options - PowerFold Deck and Hydraulic Lift Deck. These are two different options available from Grasshopper. Both are explained below.
PowerFold is the most common. This option is used to "flip" the deck up for maintenance. This lifts the front of the deck only giving operators the ability to easily reach the bottom side of the deck. This option is controlled by an electric actuator. This actuator is also used to set the mowing height.
Hydraulic Deck Lift - This is the option of adding a button in the right hand steering lever to raise the deck straight up a few inches. It is located where most operators naturally place their right hand thumb. If used while the deck is engaged it will momentarily stop the blades, raise the deck straight up (not flip) to help maneuver over debris, driveways, curbs, landscaping, etc. Once the button is released the deck drops back down to the set mowing height and the blades are re-engaged.
We sell this feature to many municipalities, including parks who can stop the blades while driving over dirt from a baseball field or wood chips from a playground.

Good explanation of the two systems. I am in the market for a Grasshopper and now I know the difference between them.

Drove my late father's grasshopper today, my first time on a zero turn mower ever. First 2 minutes and I realized how touchy this mower was. If you can control it it cuts fantastically, steep hills and sharp turns can be sketchy as fuck.

looks like it only raises the front of the deck which wouldnt do much for getting up on a curb, and that electric cylinder sounds like its struggling

It's not running. Running, it's got amperage from the stator instead of just the battery. But yeah, sounds a tad on the weak side.

You don’t even show what you actually need to do to lift it, what are you doing with your hand and the switch??

Knowledgeable but jerky camera movement makes it difficult to see what he is doing.
