Gibson went from a company that was detached from what customers wanted a few years ago to a company that is now offering all the stuff people asked for and shamelessly overcharges for it.

1800 dollars for a guitar that cant stay in tune, that you have to file the nut and saddles, polish and sand the fretboard.... this is absolutely ridiculous

Why pay £1200 for an Epiphone LP when if you look around hard enough you could pick up a Gibson LP standard 2nd hand for that sort of money or you could buy a Japanese Tokai or Eastman LP which have solid tops and rosewood boards.

    • @kriswhite91

There’s no way that you can find a Gibson standard for 1200. Unless is completely beaten up. Not even classics are at that price used.

They don't use Rosewood due to restrictions on using Rosewood for import Guitars from China bound for western markets. It's Called the CITES treaty ..
It's the same reason Eastman uses ebony boards on their 1959 les Paul clones .

I bought a Gibson USA Firebird 2016 model with Lyre vibrato, rosewood fingerboard, nitro finish with OHSC on a deal for €990 brand new from the shop.
Now an Epiphone made in China (?) Firebird with poly finish and not even a real bone nut costs $1800 and you call that "underpriced"??? That`s almost twice the money.
Nothing about these new Epis is "high end", except for electronics and hardware maybe.
