I forgot how gorgeous he was in the series. He is still handsome, but when he was young, damn he was fine!
Zaldamo has aged very gracefully.
Omg I LOVE this! All these years later, and I’m crying over Almanzo walking to Laura. 😭
Dean Butler is a lovely man. Love him talking about the details; the music, the emotions, etc.! Thank you for these professionally done interview-vignettes! Perfect backdrop too!
The music scores were amazing on this show he’s so right
Agreed. Very classy, down to earth guy.
Yeah, it's so neat to view through the actor's eyes, seeing how wonderful the acting work was for him, not just the celebrity stuff, but a true actor, and none of that afraid to or don't bother watching his own work or himself in the piece.
I would laugh at Mrs. Oleson pronouncing his name wrong every time 😂. Such a great series, watched with many laughs and tears. I’m in my early 50’s and I still watch the reruns ❤
Zaldamo.🤣
@@jonlate4581 haha yes!!
Yes, that was so funny. But, I cringed every time Laura called him Manly. Maybe not when I was 10, but in watching as an adult, lol.
I LOVE Little House on the Prairie so much!
I was in grade school when this show was running. I loved it so much. I am re-reading the books right now. Such great memories.
Dean Butler is such a nice person!
Dean is a gem! Although he came to the cast later, he is present at all Little House events. Eager to interact with fans and supporters of the show. Thank you for all your enthusiasm!!

It’s so good to hear Dean’s perspective on the show!!! He gave his character Almanzo real life we could visualize!! Great Actor!!!
I had such a crush on Almanzo as a kid! Lol!
Same. He is a great comedic actor as well.
I was 7 when Little house started in 1974. The story lines on Little House were never rushed or hurried. The Sentiment was off the chain. The Musical score was beautiful and as inportant as the acting and both were right on. Dean Butler is a stand up guy and they picked the right one to be Almanzo.
I was 4 years old when the series started and my sister and I had such a crush on Almanzo. We had read the books so knew that he and Laura would end up together. But now the age difference hits much harder than before.
Great chemistry and acting between Dean and Melissa. You can tell how heartfelt Dean is about this show 50 years later.
I still watch Little House in the mornings Monday through Friday when I can! It takes you away for just a moment from the chaos that plagues us day to day ❤
Where can I find the show?
@@lisadiconti I don't know either.....
@@brendaross3961 I watched on my laptop.
Pluto has a channel where it's on 24/7
@@lisadicontiPluto has a channel where it's on 24/7.
He's absolutely correct about the David Rose music. Spot on every episode.
Yeah, it's perfect. 🎶
I love the little house series I still.watch the repeats .Happy 50th anniversary to the little little house 🏠
ABSOLUTELY my two favorite episodes,Days of Sunshine Days of Shadow, the scene Dean Butler just des😢wheh he stands up ,that made me weep when I first saw it and in 2024 ,I’m still cry like a baby ,by my first favorite episode is Sweet Sixteen,I had been waiting for Almazo to FINALLY realizes he loved Laura ,when he picked her up after her first teaching job ,he looks at her and says “you look different “ then that first ever kiss for Melissa Gilbert ,I’ve probably watched that 20 times or more in the last few months at the beginning of 2024,it was ,is and will always be a classic series .
My #1 FAV episode too is "Sweet Sixteen" -- Laura: "It's like I'm wearing your colors" ... Almanzo: "I hope so" 🥰
my favorite also where Almazo walks to Laura❤ lots of tears
My favorite is "Country Girls". ❤
Oh, yeah, the way he says, "You look different," and the way he looks, when he says it and how she says, "It's like I'm wearing your colors." ❤
@@DawnaOlson Yes! ❤
The sweet sixteen episode is my favorite. To add the episode of Laura and Almanzo getting the home of his sister is my second. I would have loved for Miss Wlider to have really ended up with Harv.
I wanted Liza Jane to marry Harv too!
The letter that Liza Jane wrote in her diary about giving the house to Laura and Manly brings Me to tears! Liza Jane made a sacrifice for her brother and Laura knowing that She was destined to be alone!
Face of an angel, that one.
I had a crush on Dean Butler 😍
This man was perfect for this part of Monzo. I love his beautiful face when he looked at Laura. He showed such love for her. He was wonderful. God Bless You Sir!!
You did awesome as that character. You two were meant to be.
He’s so articulate, wise and a noble man!!
He was so dorky as Almanzo😅
Love it.
I didn’t get to watch the last few seasons until now - retired. Whenever the later seasons were on, I would tell family or friends “I can’t watch it. I need to watch it in order”. I held out for decades. I’m so glad I waited and watched all the seasons starting with season one to the very end and into the last two movies in order. What a beautiful experience. It’s sad that we don’t have quality entertainment anymore. I hope no one ever tries to remake this show because they would fail miserably.
Thank you for mentioning DAVID ROSE, I love little House and that wonderful music evokes home and comfort! David Rose died on My 22nd birthday and a part of My youth died with him! I also loved I loved the letter Liza Jane wrote when She gave the house to Laura and Manly when the wed!
Love that scene where you rise from the wheelchair and you and Laura move towards each other is done so beautifully! I’m soon to be a 62 year old man and I still weep at that scene!
Dean Butler seems like a very insightful man. Little House was basically a situation tragedy, and it could have been a real downer, but it was done so skillfully that it was uplifting.
One of the best shows ever on tv and they were a awesome couple on the show
I really wish they'd continue this show again, same setting and time period, with a new generation of our favorite characters Laura and Almanzo, children and grandchildren
Dean was perfectly cast as Almanzo Wilder. He played the part well, endearing Almanzo to the viewers. He was playing a role that was ten years older than Laura but he played it so innocently, sweet and romantically dorky that the viewers forgot the big age difference. Had he played it differently, I dont think it would have worked. He did it so well he made the show's fans love him too.
Zaldamo (or Allamanzie, if you prefer) is awesome!
Dean Butler a classy guy great actor loved him and Laura on LHOP😁👏🇨🇦
such a lovely kind man so good looking was one of my favourite actors on the show i’m actually watching it now we need to bring back more shows like this
Little House on The Prairie Had AWESOME & PRECIOUS, WHOLESOME Stories to Watch!! 🤗🤩❤😘🙏
I love the day that Laura and Almazo had their first kiss!
It will always be my favorite show ❤
I watched every episode, I loved watching you and Laura, get together. Both of you are amazing 😍😍. Everyone was amazing. Still and always will be award winning.. 😁🤗😁😁
I watch the show more as an adult, I'm 58.. then I did when I was child. Such great stuff.
I agree, the show demonstrates the wholesome if simple life that people can still live today if they choose to get out of the way of themselves. 😀😀👋👋💖💖
It's a romanticized version of the past. The late 19th century was actually a terrible place. The average lifespan was short. Disease was everywhere. Alcoholism was widespread. The country was in a depression in the early 1890s.
@@PapagenoMF And they struggled. The Ingalls family really struggled. But they also loved each other and that is the lesson that families can take from the story.
He's still adorable and he seems like a lovely person.
Our favorite episode was the "legacy" about a piece of furniture. If walls could talk, dido that in furniture as well.
Talk about aging well!
Love the cinnamon chicken
I made that one year for my dad's birthday dinner 😂 he said he liked it. I wish I could know if he really did or not.
Love all of the deep thought he puts into his words. Great interview.
Love you Dean Happy 50th!
It took awhile for Almanzo to warm up to me but he eventually became a favorite.
He still has a nice head of hair!
Him and Jon kept their locks
My son loves to watch the Little House DVDs and he said to me recently "How did the Wilder parents get those names? Royal, Almanzo, Perly Day....SERIOUSLY?"
One of my favorite characters ever
Greatest sitcom ever!❤
My fave episode is wilder vs. wilder. 🐎
This was the Best show ever! They don't make or have writers like that anymore.
I think they do but realized "reality shows" were cheaper, cheap thrills for a certain demographic and why bother with shows like LHOP or ER or MASH or anything that takes time and effort to write. You slowly saw the changes on TV and that's why many like myself just have an antenna now, why bother. Streaming isn't perfect but except for Call the Midwife on PBS, there aren't many shows worth watching.
Dear Cozi Tv, please more from the actors Little house on the Prairie. I would really like it if the actors would comment on the episodes, like the wonderful Almanzo Wilder did.
Warm greetings from Germany
I was a 70s and 80s kid and grew up on LH. I am mid 50s now and when I am feeling downor had a bad day, I know I can watch the LH channel 24/7 on Pluto..🙂
Beautiful interview
So funny how Dean goes over the table
Well explained! ❤
A great podcast!
Days of Sunshine days of sorrow: when Almanzo learns to walk again; is very similar to an episode on The Waltons when Olivia gets paralyzed, and then a miracle inspires her to walk again
He still has great hair.
I have the boxs sets
Left hook ❤️❤️
I remember These scenes. 🎉
All the best to you. Jana 🎉
Concuerdo con Almamzo, la escencia de la.serie ,era ese sentimiento que uno podria sobrellevar las tragedias que la vida ocacionalmente trae
En la serie se vio
_Desempleo
_Adicciones
_Pestes
_Desastres climaticos
_Muertes
Absolutamente todo
I have got the complete series on DVD.
It was all Michael Landon. There was no "We" did it this way or "we" made this scene work becsuse . . . It was a success then and continues today ONLY because of Michael Landon's vision and his genius. Dean Butler has said this many times but this was edited on such a way that ML is just casually mentioned. There would be no 50th anniversary celebration had it not been for Michael Landon. Never forget thst. ❤
And let's not forget Karen Grassle's book where she related that Michael said,"Women smell really bad down there". This is when they were filming the bedtime scenes on a male dominated set.
Michael also bullied Karen when they were in salary negotiations and reduced her part, again according to her book.
And let's not forget thst Michael Landon is the ONLY person in Hollywood who EVER gave her a decent acting job. Or have I missed something? And why did she stick around for 9 years? ML was known to have a sick sense of humor. Most of his co-stars laughed about it. But she chose to sensationalized it to make some money. And now during the 50th anniversary tour she can make some money by saying GOOD things about him. What does that say about HER? Still making a living thanks to Michael Landon . Hmmmm
@@sueannbellucci4304 He was the boss. If the boss makes a joke, there are going to be people who laugh because they want to keep their jobs.
Btw, he did the same thing to Katherine MacGregor, had animosity toward her about her salary, that's why they didn't get along well and she refused to be in the final movie.
Also, she has done movies. One of her co-stars was Louis Gossett, Jr.
And all these years later, anyone who worked with him THEN - Dean Butleir, Matt and Pat Labyorteaux, Melissa and Allison all say he had a wicked sense of humor. One of the funniest people they ever knew. And he told jokes that were gross and probably inappropriate but they weren't offended by them. And truth be told if he were alive today he would probably be embarrassed and apologetic. We have all had an education regarding this kind of humor over the past 20 years. He still was the ONLY Hollywood person who hired her and gave her the best and only acting opportunity of her entire career. So what is the point? What is the take away? He wasn't perfect but he was responsible for 2 wonderful life affirming family shows that are still watched by millions of people all over the world. Thousands of people are celebrating him and his LHOP , including K Grassle - at the 50th anniversary celebrations. So what is your point?
@@sueannbellucci4304 No; he's not. She's had other roles.
Re: his jokes. She said there were very few females present filming those scenes. The great majority of people present were men.
Re: Karen Grassle. There's an interview on CZcams where she says she was with other cast members and they spoke positively about LHOTP and she did not agree.
Re: staying. She stayed because it was her decision and her right to do so and she was following the advice of her lawyer.
How about a 'golden years' mini series...glazing over Rose's teen years and going out on her own...to living with modern amenities like trying to drive a car? Dean and Melissa are the right age.....they can be made to look younger and older as the series progresses.
The casting for this series was faultless. No fantasy casting could have surpassed the chosen actors. LHotP is timeless for many reasons, but the cast is at the top of the list.
I have his book on preorder. I think the last of the group. Maybe Jon will write one but not if he wants his past private.
❤
6:18 Laura kissed Almanzo on the mouth months before when she was the clown at the circus. Many people forget this. She also kissed 2 other boys on the show years earlier. One was the blonde boy when sge put the apples in her dress!
My father In-law told us Laura Ingalls is a relative.....his middle name is Ingalls... His family migrated from area as Laura Ingalls.
To him it's not a big deal....just family he said.
Laura sweet 16 and first kiss❤
I'm straight but his skin is amazing 👏
He did an excellent job on the show. He does look a little older, not 40 years of course, LOL. His voice is pretty much the same.....
Zaldaomo 😁
So funny. While watching this, I just happened to look up from the computer screen to the TV screen, while the TV was silent, and Johnny Carson was holding up a caricature of Michael Landon who's a guest on tonight's rerun. Seeing Cozi has Little House on mornings for 3 hours straight , when I'd been wanting to see the show again, proves I sure wasn't alone in my wish!
I wonder if Dean’s own kids and grandchildren have watched Little House over the years!
This show is definitely an escape from today's messed up crazy world. The 70s and early 80s were a better time....
lol at some point dean said al man zo instead of al mon zo😂
Ok, As President of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Legacy and Research Association, Dean is right.
IRL-the correct pronunciation is Al-MAN-ZO; but the tv show got the pronunciation wrong-AL-MON-ZO. Dean has done a ton of research on the real Almanzo Wilder and he says it correctly. He has joked…MON-is TV; MAN is real Almanzo Wilder. He is a lovely, gracious man.
@@SarahManley thank you so much for clearing that up!😃
one of the greatest tv shows ever. Very American, very very family oriented. It surely captured the pioneering years in the South. My favorite episodes that made me cry was the Laura Ingalls Wilder Part i and II. It still makes me cry watching those two episodes. Love is best described in that two episode story. The lie Elaine Jane Wilder made to enable her brother Almanzo marry Laura is so touching. She would not let hers and Almanzo's hearts be broken at the same time, She saved the day to make love win in the end. She was heartbroken with Harves but she would not allow her brother and Laura suffer the same heartache. It was honorable and gracious of her. That is family love. and that is the essence of this great tv show. Michael Landon was a terrific story teller. and the main actors were terrific in giving life to his story.
Why did Michael hit him ? I forgot that episode 😂
Nellie said that Almanzo and Laura were kissing.
David Rose was married to Judy Garland
I don't really remember seeing the episode where he had the stroke, etc. I'm sure I watched it the first time with my parents. Is its longer episode that isn't shown as much?
Yes it's a part one and part two but part one is longer than an hour.
@@ashleighburroughs3581 I thought so. I think I watched just part of it another time.
@@julienielsen3746 yeah that is one of my favorite episodes!!
Dean is 6' or taller? The real Almanzo was 5'4"
That wasn't a right hook!!! that was a left hook. His right arm was in a sling. Sorry but would you get your story straight!! That was also a different wagon and Laura was nowhere in sight that I can tell. Totally different scene !!!! and that was not a team, that was one horse. What are you talking about?? I grew up on Little House, I appeared in Little House as an extra and rode horses all over the Little House ranch. But please edit your footage or change the story :-)
How did almonZo and Laura have a better house than Charles and Caroline?
Left hook...Paw was left handed.
I liked him in little house, but hated him in buffy
I’m sure Melissa Gilbert as not very nice
How do you know?
Really? That's just silly and not an honest response. She is a major NOBODY in Hollywood EXCEPT for this role. And NOBODY in the Me 2 movement, which I fully support, sued anyone for telling lewd jokes .
It was 1994 in Disneyland and he was there he was so awesome to me and my family! Lo v e ya dean
I was 16 years old living with my Dad and six sisters in Monterey,CA when I first watched the Little House on the Prairie. Time went by fast ….🥲 I now live in Seattle and my three grown children .
