- We have an old and proven TJ JEEP Vs the latest high tech Tank 300. This week we are back in QLD at our favorite local 4wd Park for something a little bit different. We are putting two of the newest 4x4 models to the test and pitting them against some peers, as well as some older 4x4s, to see just how they compare. We've also got a 300 Series, a Y62, a Colorado and a GWM Cannon to really mix things up.

The only reason people say GWM are dogshit or whatever is to protect the resale value of their overpriced 4WDs that they are still trying to pay off. These things are excellent.
Well they did have a terrible track record before Great Wall converted to GWM, but yes, the new offerings are bloody awesome value!

And other brands you can get fixed out west. Where do you get a mechanic that knows them outside a capital city ??
No one is saying that isn't an issue but they do have service agents nominated around the country. You are right though, it will take some time for people to build up the confidence based on a track record, but with the Cannons already being here for over three years now...the number of mechanics with experience, the runs on both board, the. embers in the community and the confidence in the brand are all growing steadily.@@jamestanner9198
Tank 300 and the GWM Cannon did way better then I thought. The navara and colorado struggled.
Both have been impressing us for around 3 years. We are keen to do more testing.

After seeing a review on another channel about the Tank that basically babies it on track thanks for actually showing what it can do and truly what to expect. I'm a bit of a fancy pants at times I wanted to see this then just flash interiors.

You throw a 3 inch suspenson lift 1 inch body lift on a TJ Rubicon with tummy tucker skid plate for the transfter case and 35's. Absolutely monsters offroad.

Yes no issues at all. Can't remember the codes but it was just the ECU reacting to Byron shifting gears at the wrong time

I have my eye on the Iveco.... I wonder if they will make a Phev ? My next is the Tank Phev . I wish for Tank to be able to turn into a generator to run my home or shop during blackouts.. in South Africa that's comon. No electricity. Also no water on demand .

I think a car with a generator/V2L function is only a BEV or pure electricity, a hybrid car is not possible because the battery capacity is small
Tank 400 is a phev in China.
Take the budget of ANY of the other vehicles, and you can build an absolute weapon TJ.
Carbon TJ is nice, but really fairly mildly modified.
We have strict laws here and even this TJ is slightly outside of the laws but yes, it's a great medium build.
@@4WDTV LoL pretty familiar with the rules & legal limitations, and they are mostly around lift heights & tyre sizes. But things that can be legally done to enhance this TJs abilities are things like a SYE, a belly tuck, Wheelbase stretch with longer control arms...
etc...
Don't get me wrong this is a nice example, but my point is simply for the same of less coin than most of the other vehicles you could build an awesome TJ.
gotcha, appreciate that sentiment. Although when looking for an old TJ, you want the straight six right? and based on your thinking are you including COVID tax or not? it did push the prices up a bit! 😂 With that said, the TANK300 is not bad value for $50K with front and rear lockers, but the TJs solid front diff is the big winner@@davidwoodley3288
@@4WDTV Tank 300 is nearly $50k before they've done the "extensive modifications"...So lets say $60k.
TJs with the vulnerable 4.0 I6 can be found every day at $10k.....I can guarantee you $50k in mods on a TJ would make it pretty epic....
yeah it's very logical and would be epic. It all depends on your needs. if it is just a trail bruiser for hardcore use the built TJ would be killer, but if it was wanted as a more reliable, newer and comfortable tourer, it starts getting more difficult.@@davidwoodley3288

Keen on the Tank 300 for sure.... a few places on YT comment about the rears leaving the ground with extreme breaking. My only worry ... anyone else seen this or have thoughts about it .... look up Top 10 Good & Bad: 2023 GWM Tank 300 ... last dislike chapter on vid
Correct but it still got a 5 star ANCAP rating and passed all the brake safety tests.
Stops quicker than most of the other SUV in the market.
And with all the safety mechanisms on the thing, very rarely will you have to enter a full emergency breaking situation

I don't think there is any ANCAP test of combined braking/steering. It's been demonstrated on CZcams that it does consistently lift it's rears under heavy braking and airborne tyres can't stabilise the car. That it received a 5 star rating is an indictment on the ANCAP protocols, not a vindication of the car. Lifting rears under brakes is indefensible.@@4WDTV

Do the back wheels come off the ground when hard brake on the tank ?
we know they do in standard vehicles under full aggressive breaking on flat bitumen but we have never seen it happen in general use or in the vehicles we have driven
@@4WDTV well tell the whole story about the tank. Do you know of any other vehicles that lift wheels under brakes. Not safe in my opinion. How could it get the ancap rating it got. Did they buy it ??

@@4WDTV so good watching your videos. Would love to see one in chopped up sand, like at Inskip. Alot of people come to grief there. I'm not sure if it is a tyre choice or the driver.
What make tyres are on that TJ? Liking the ability of the Tank 300, but man what an ugly body kit. Sure makes a good looking 4x4 look awful.
yeah they are wild tyres and the TANK300 did look a bit wild with that kid.The tyres are called Accelerate Badak. They are from Indonesia.
I think body kits are a matter of different people's tastes
I do wish your videos were at least 20 minutes long, preferably and hour long.

Paid 😂😂😂😂😂 funny guy. I wish I was getting paid by GWM. I also own a brand new LDV T60 but don't see me boasting about how good of a Chinese car it is. As I do not think it's is a good 4wd at all.
