In today's video I show clips I recorded in public bathrooms of non-disabled people using disabled bathroom stalls. This behavior is very ableist and rude. Many non-disabled people don't have the choice of what stall they use, so they should be kept available for their use.

The Love Disabled Life CZcams channel is committed to challenging the stigma of disability that perpetuates the discrimination and marginalization of disabled people. Videos are about aspects of daily life, our history and culture and positive disability identity.
I'm Jody, the woman behind the camera, and I am motivated to advocate for positive disability identity through this CZcams channel, as well as in by blog website and Etsy shop, to provoke new ways of thinking about being disabled. In doing this work, I hope that I can amplify the voices of my community so that they may be better understood and accepted in society. While I acknowledge, as disabled people, we might not like every day (let's face it, some days are hard), we should always love who is living them.

They're not disabled stalls. They're handicap accessible stalls. They're not reserved like parking spaces. Anyone can use them.

@SirDestroyerlt if you are not disabled there are plenty of stalls available to you whether in woman's bathroom or men's. we have one stall for both sexes.

What's wrong with waiting? Though I totally agree in the case of the person taking a break there rather than using the facilities.

You can’t really reserve a handicap accessible toilet like a table at a resteraunt tho-
Also why you be lookin in the crack in the bathroom stall?

I have a severe invisible disability and struggle with my balance. I do use the disabled toilet if it is free and it’s slightly different for guys as otherwise we have to use shared urinals that are not suitable for many people.

GREAT FOOTAGE! I definitely am guilty of using that particular stall for all the reasons you mentioned: space, cleanliness, convenience, and miscellaneous things. It really opened my eyes to the fact that people may be waiting and ACTUALLY need it. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will be more mindful next time.

Places by me are just starting to put the bars in narrower stalls. I’m thankful for that since I need them with my disability. I always hated using the large stall since I don’t use a wheelchair.

I see it everywhere online: “it’s not handicap reserved, it’s handicap accessible”, “it’s not a big deal, just wait your turn like everyone else”. But guess what? When there are 4 or 5 other stalls and people choose to use that one when that is the one accessible stall for disabled people and it becomes that disabled people are waiting every time because you just want to use the bigger stall? It’s inconvenient at best and inconsiderate at the worst. Yes, disabled people have to wait. But I think it’s very different when a bathroom is full and that stall is occupied, and the bathroom is empty and that stall is occupied. When you constantly use things that are there to give access to people that would otherwise not have it, you are limiting that access by taking up those spaces. People can reply and cry about it all you want, but I think people know I’m right, they just don’t care about the disabled having ease of access like they do. There are plenty of other stalls! Why do you have to take up the one that many disabled NEED to use the frickin bathroom???? Because you’re selfish probably. And yes, disabled people with service dogs can also use this stall and often need to (like myself) because it is too small in the other stalls to fit both my service dog and me without her touching the toilet or getting hit by the door.

In many states in this country it is ILLEGAL to film inside a space where there is reasonable expectation of privacy such as a bathroom. It is NOT illegal in any states to use the large restroom if you are not handicapped. So I hate to break it to you sweetie but you're not in the right here. Just because you're handicapped does not mean you get to act this way. This is disgusting and I have reported this video.

Well if you saw me on the street, you wouldn't know that I am Disabled, but here's a real Kicker as I'm getting older just turned 62, and when my Bladder says let's go. You go?. I was recently in a McDonald's and I needed to use the bigger stall. And what did I find an employee taking a nap, I couldn't wait so I dropped my pants and let go, of course I should have peed on the Sleeper. Got done and left

I have a walking cane for mobility issues, plus I’m legally blind. Yesterday, I was waiting to get into the stall, when this non disabled student was putting on makeup. I had to wait. When she got out of the stall, I gave her a look. I use the handicapped stalls, because of my mobility issues, and I use the grab bars to help me up.

Not saying someone should hog a stall to put on makeup, but you’d have to be looking through the cracks to know what she was doing.. 😬

@Paper cat_ morning teeth they're not. They're for anyone to use. They're handicap accessible not reserved for handicapped people. They're not the same thing as a handicapped parking spot. The creator who posted this video is actually in the wrong for filming in a restroom. Just because someone is handicapped doesn't mean they get to be an entitled asshole

As someone who uses a walker I face the same issue everyday! Next time I will pound on the door until they are forced to leave as I am fed up with this! Just like you I cannot just use a regular stall and leave my walker out as it a risk of being stolen. I am also a fall risk and if I don't have anything to grab onto I am trapped in that bathroom stall until I am rescued. I have had to wait while people were using that stall for their drug use or their nicotine fix as well as I had to wait while while people were using that bathroom stall for changing their tampon, texting their bff, as well fixing their hair and makeup. This has to stop! People need to be more considerate of those who need that extra large stall

@@trunkb73625 don't you ever say that! You don't know what I have gone through . The person who saying terrible things about someone else is the terrible person and that is YOU. Maybe you should think about invisible disabilities and how entitled princesses like you don't think. Maybe the next person you are tying up that handicapped stall for is someone who suffers from crohns disease! You sound like someone who parks in handicapped parking spaces as well and think you can get away with it! These are unnecessary barriers that us handicapped people go through daily sweetheart. Try using a walker, a stoma, or a wheelchair for one day or just show us some etiquette and stop being entitled. Also maybe I should use a regular toilet and have you help me up or have you help clean up a crohns sufferer or a wheelchair user after they soiled themselves because they had to wait for you. Those handicapped stalls are there for a reason

@XOX10XOX oh I have and at times for over an hour! Try being physically disabled and having to wait for the handicapped stall while people are smoking, reading, and doing drugs in there! Maybe you should try standing in line for over an hour while everyone else gets to use the regular stalls and without the wait. Do you want to the one being responsible if my medical device which costs hundreds of dollars out of pocket gets stolen or damaged because the person who should have been able to use the handicapped stall ends up having to use a regular bathroom? You think I am privileged? No it is you who is privileged

You're wrong. Those stalls are typically the ones that have the baby changing tables. So yes, they "have to use them too." Secondly you assume they don't have a disability. My mom cannot lift herself off of the toilet. She uses the bars in the stalls. You can't tell anything is wrong with her, except when she tries to stand up. She had a back surgery that went wrong. She was in her 30's and was constantly told to not use the stalls. By appearances, nothing looks wrong. But again she can't get up without assistance. She also has accidents and has wore depends since the incident 30 years ago.
