    They could have donated that kitchen island in tact. No need to smash everything up.

      If you go back to the beginning; they showed where the laminate was peeling off and was in overall bad condition. I agree; I hate when cabinets are broken up like that when they can be donated; but some simply aren't worth it.

      They could still donate it. There are people who can fix things. Habitat for Humanity should be contacted. But that's not exciting TV...

      I'd have to really love Christine to let her have that living room.

    Only thing I didn't like was the wallpaper design. It makes the living room smaller and darker.

    The couple love textures. Wallpaper makes living room looks busy and outdated.

  • @SabrinaMascarenhasFiineArts

    This is an old show, where white walls weren't in trend, and that new wall paper colour was in trend, I remember wearing quite a few clothes in purple and wine colours back then, now it's all pink and blush tones with greens from plants for colour or even grey. Overall I really the family and they're home from before was lived in and not cluttered except the kitchen didn't have a practical design. New space is great.

    The house that was shown wouldn't have worked: the kitchen was no bigger or better than their original house. Even though the basement sported living space for Christine,
    it would not have worked as she got older. Being in your 70s or 80s and having to go down stairs is not ideal.

  • @christinage6752
    @christinage6752 Před 3 lety +5

    I think, they might regret their choice... for one reason: THE STAIRS!! The house has so many stairs, in a couple of years someone of the family is not able to move up and down anymore.

    How do designers not look at plans for the kitchen before making their design? Once a contractor came to look at my kitchen for a remodel & wanted to move my stove from where there was en existing chimney it vented through (going up on other floor & through the attic) and place the stove against a wall with a staircase behind it. It was a gas stove & there were no gas lines there. Also the stove would have stood in the path through the kitchen to the back door. Then he wanted to move my sink from under the window where there was natural light & put it against a partition wall on another side of the kitchen. Move everything AWAY from natural light coming in from the windows, which lit the sink & stove in the existing layout. With his plan, at the sink & stove I would have been blocking the light to both the sink & stove when I worked at them, and would have had no counter space around the stove. When I pointed out that there was no way to vent the stove through the staircase, the upstairs apartment & the attic, and that the plumbing would have to be moved to move the sink onto a wall with no natural light, AND the gas line would need to be moved, he blew me off, saying he was an expert with lots of experience. He was dismissive of me, not quite parting me on the head & saying 'Little lady.' I told him he was dismissed and hired someone who was not trying to cheat me with ridiculously expensive & extensive renovations when all I wanted was more cupboards & counter space on the dead partition wall where the first guy was proposing to put the sink. I got a lovely workspace with room for four-six people at a table. And no moved plumbing, gas lines and no new chimney going up through the upstairs neighbor's staircase!

      I know, his reaction seamed unreal.
      I thought the producers picked just a random home they wanted to renovate and people, whom they paid, and aren’t such good actors.

  • @victoriaegan6476
    @victoriaegan6476 Před 3 lety +8

    I love the renovations but the wallpaper in the living room does not go with their furniture or accessories. I would have just painted it the same color used on all the other walls -- would have made this room look much bigger.

  • @lindak8664
    @lindak8664 Před 3 lety +8

      It can be a lot of time consuming sanding or replacement of walls, to remove the wallpaper glue, once a wall is wallpapered if you want to update it's quicker to use wallpaper again.

    I thought that the colour scheme for the kithen was old fashioned. It still looked very nice, but could have looked much fresher with more modern colours. I have no idea why wallpaper was puf up again. 😯

      Sometimes, it is more cost-effective to re-paper the room. Removing wallpaper can damage walls, as it would have done in my house because of the way it was applied.

    The placement of the dishwasher in the original was perfect...I have the same thing. What's so great? No one can get to the sink to dump their dishes. Straight into the dishwasher!!! Regarding the other home they looked at....I didn't see a single egress window in the basement. Its not code which is why it was so cheap.

    If the family wants to stay in their current home, why not make the current family den into Christine’s living room. Update the unused living room so it coordinates with the adjacent dining room. That way when the family entertains they have a continuous flow of spaces and if Christine wants some privacy she will have her space across the hall which should include a door. (Though not within this budget, more homes should have a minimum of a powder room on the main floor for guests or future mobility issues.
