  • Watson Crumbie Jr., a World War II veteran who had already seen fierce combat on Saipan and Okinawa, would once again find himself called to action when the Korean War broke out in the summer of 1950.
On September 15, 1950, Crumbie participated in the amphibious landings at Inchon which helped stem the North Korean invasion and led to the recapture of the South Korean capital of Seoul.
Crumbie would however see his fiercest combat as his unit advanced deep into North Korea into an area known as the Chosin Reservoir. It was there that 30,000 American and UN Marines would battle a Chinese force four times their size in a battle that would go down as lore in Marine Corps history.
Watson Crumbie Jr. passed away on February 14, 2023 at the age of 97
