WWII P-51 Mustang Combat Ace on Dogfighting Germans | Joe Peterburs
Joseph Peterburs had plans to become a Catholic Priest, but with the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the outbreak of World War II he instead joined the US Army Air Corps and began an aviation career that would span three wars and make him an 'ace' pilot.
During WWII Joe would join the 20th Fighter Group, 55th Fighter Squadron, flying P-51s, escorting B-17 bombers on their missions and defending against German fighter attacks. He flew 49 missions and logged 269 combat hours.
On his 49th mission, 10 April 1945 the Group was escorting 450+ B-17s to targets near Berlin. Just as the bombers were unloading, a swarm of Me 262 turbojets hit the formation. Lt. Peterburs was flying high cover and saw a 262 slicing through the B-17s. Peterburs had considerable altitude advantage and pulled into the 262s 6 0’clock with his six .50 calibers blazing. Sixty years later he learned the damage he inflicted on the Me 262 resulted in the engine disintegrating and the pilot bailing out; the pilot was Walter Schuck, a top German Ace with 206 victories. Shortly after Peterburs started strafing an airfield before being hit by ground fire. Unfortunately he was unable to make it back to friendly lines and had to bail out over Germany, was captured and became a POW. He escaped, linked up with the advancing Russians, and fought with them to the battle of Wittenberg on the Elbe.
In December 1951 he was assigned to the 12th Fighter Bomber Squadron of the 18th Fighter Bomber Group flying the P-51D in Korea. He flew 76 missions over North Korea sustaining battle damage on several of those missions including a .50 caliber round through the prop of his P-51.
In the fall of 1967, Lt. Colonel Peterburs was assigned to Vietnam as Staff Operations Officer responsible for Command and Control in the war zone.

Tell them nothing, but name, rank and serial number! Hooah.
Yay for invading poor countries
Listening to this makes me happy the 2nd amendment is a thing still
Must be trippy to see Israel become the very nazi state that they claimed they would never allow to occur again.
The Jap sniper probably had a very similar photograph inside of his helmet.
God Bless u All🙏
Thank you for your service and sacrifice, may God bless your soul
Nowadays your English teacher will spend the day talking about their/ they/ thems sexuality. We never knew our teachers first names.
Bless his heart don't no how he kept going let us not forget the evil that men do 😢

Japanese crime in ww2. To American was most burtal in term suffering
If you never watched "Only The Dead See The End of War" I highly recommend it, it is incredible footage from both sides. Also SSGT. Bellavia's book is fantastic as well. He also didn't just walk out lol, he is sugar coating over so much of what he really did that night, he describes it in his book and I've been through 2 deployments myself and it's wild what happened it blew my mind.
A true hero, thank you sir for your service and sacrifice, may God bless your soul
I remember the first time a read about Chosin Reservoir over 30 years ago. As I read I kept thinking how is it that I have never heard about this battle??? It was 50 million times worse than anything I have read about the Battle of Bulge, but yet it still goes under the radar. You know its bad when the wounded have been loaded on trucks and the doctors are handed rifles and told, your a rifleman now.
"I said drop em" -true badass
What year did this happen please ?
I’m glad he can use his mouth still, he’s lucky to have that
Blud somewhat sounds like Fiddlesticks from League of Legends
Thanks for communism. Love from Eastern Europe.
its funny to me all someone has to say is "german soldier" and straight away everyoine thinks and equates to "nazi" bahahaha idits
Bullshit, marines are not as good as the. Gurkhas in comparison to infantry soldiers skillsets. They have the money and thats it.
There is no god
For reference a lot of what he talks about is very related to ptsd. These intense sensory responses are your brain attempting to rewire itself to keep you alive better in response to extreme stress
That’s just war. I imagine it was way worse being a civilian and getting napalm fired at you or even worse a nuke.
Two of my uncles were in WW2. They would not talk to anyone about what happened😢
A true hero, thank you sir for your service and sacrifice. May God bless your soul
My goodness...believe in prayer!!!
New subscriber great work guys keep it up. These people need to tell their stories and we need to hear them. Thank you sir for your service 🫡
Thank you sir for your service ❤
Don’t feel bad about cursing God. If God made the Universe and he made the earth, then he is responsible for all its sin too. He made man to be a killer. He made Cain. He also put that kid there on Iwo Jima. The good people in this world are those who work hard to be decent and who teach kindness, who recognise evil and stand up to it.
Lmfao gramps ain't snitchin at all gramps standing on business 😭😭😭🙌🙌
This guy is absolutely absolutely amazing!!!! I watched him on the Sean Ryan show. I think it came out over last summer…. this man by the way that he carries himself in the way that he spoke and had so much pride for America it’s just I feel bad for people when they get older that are like him because they must not understand the younger generations it’s so sad to know that they laid down their life like that and it and then you have people that don’t even respect the country or the flag…. a flamethrower which I didn’t even know existed until I watch that episode. He’s an amazing guy.
❤
And he did all that so we could do what we’ve done with the country?😢😢😢😢😢
How much can we really trust history as the victors write it and often exaggerate and blow it up or spin r tales and propaganda sticks! How many idiots still believe they made soap from fat of jews bs propaganda? How many American atrocities went unnoticed? Reminder ALL OF HISTORY! DON'T GLORIFY THE VICTOR!
Sure, it shouldn't be underestimated how there were terrible things done on the "good guys'" side, see as two examples coming to mind the Dresden bombings or the many incidents of rape against German women and girls. But at the same time, we should not downplay the actual inhumane atrocities that were committed against human beings under the so-called national-socialist regime. They might not have been turned to soap, but what HAS been done is its own kind of terrible and historically verified and should not be repeated against any population for any reason.
Jesus, what was he 3 years old in WWII?!?
A true AMERICAN HERO ! Fearless and brave , a true inspiration for generations to come . Thank you good sir .
One of these men carried my injured dad back to the states during vietnam and saved his life.. so thank you from the bottom of my heart! I owe you my life as I would never have been born had he not returned home.
The Horrirs Of War 😥
Guy think hes wolverine 😂
Thanks to all you wonderful Veterans worldwide for your service to your respective countries, regardless of the country. It's all relative in that we are all one species, one race, we are one. To those who didn't come home RIP. You have more than earnt it. To all those wounded, you are an inspiration. Govs should always support their Veterans, with mental health, physical health and financial help. Should never, ever be a homeless Veteran. Not when witnessing open borders worldwide and illegal immigrants given everything.
*SO* "secret" that it wasn't revealed in this video = title is misleading / click-bait. Thumb-down until you fix that.
Thank You for your Service!
As a veteran I'll to you this, if that veteran wants to tell you their story they will, if they don't they most likely will later, or they will go to the grave with it. So with that said, don't probe them for the stories cause that only frustrates a majority of us. 90% of my coworkers have no idea I dropped warheads on foreheads and I prefer it that way they only know I served not any of my experiences CONUS or OCONUS My close friends and family thats different very few of them have heard my stories only a small select few, my wife, my brother, my father, and my best friend and thats really about it. It's not that we don't want to share it, it's just some people you can tell just won't like what they hear and it's best they don't. So you tend to only tell those you feel will truly understand you and be able to handle the story when it gets dark cause most of them always do, it's war after all and it's the real deal not the typical civilian romanticized war story or movie.
