I plan on ordering a custom acoustic electric eagle 2 in 8 months. I sent the idea for my personal banjo to Deerings custom shop. I must have updated it about 12 times, lol! I went a little overboard with the design I had in my head, and I wouldn't blame Deering if they think I went mad. It's a real Frankenstein of a Deering, and I can't wait to make the order, and eventually get it near the end of next year😊
My Eagle II has landed in mid november. I am really in love with this thing. Thought it would be a bit lighter and that the resonator's flange could be taken off without unscrewing all the head-tensioning screws.... but never mind. The sound is just beautiful. The whole thing just reeks quality. It has lots of bass and midrange for clawhammer and if you pick it up closer to the bridge it turns all snappy-cracky and is just perfect for fastlane bluegrass. Love it.
Is there a diffrent tuning you use for claw hammer. I have your banjo CD to by the way, its great. Just wonder about this claw hammer style tuning? Im thinking about buying a new Eagle II. How does it compare to Your Calico with your special tone ring .
You can use any tuning for clawhammer. The tuning he uses for Shady Grove is "Double C". With this tuning the 4th string is tuned down a whole step to "C" and the 2nd string is tuned up a half step to "C" so the 4th and 2nd string make an octave. It's a very cool tuning though tricky to get used to it.
pedroelalto Thanks for the info. I have his CD for banjo and he is great. I learn from the Scruggs book many years ago but I like the way this man teaches on his CD. I will have to learn a little clawhammer like this song is nice.

***** In the event that you haven't found out the classical piece, you asked a year ago, it's Bach's Cello Suite Number 1 - BWV 1007.
I hope you make a clawhammer lesson CD if you get some time to do it. I have your
banjo CD and have enjoyed it very much.
