Ahhhhh! Emily Remler! One of my all time favorites and biggest influences. I have been trying to adapt my guitar experience to the banjo over the past eight years, which is why I focused on tenor and now plectrum: Pat Cloud, Bela Fleck, and Ryan Cavanaugh notwithstanding, for me, the four strings feel more intuitive for jazz playing than the five.

Astute observations here. As a long time guitarist who took up banjo in the past decade, it always seems weird to me when people try to limit the banjo to bluegrass and other forms of country music. No one would suggest that guitars are only suitable for rock, for example. But there are a lot of people for whom the banjo means always and only bluegrass or old time country music. As Allison says, that ignores the history of the instrument; for that matter, the other forms of the instrument (but then I primarily play tenor and recently got a plectrum, so I would say that…).

I saw him and his show at The Apollo Theatre in Chicago in 1979. Got his autograph on the playbill afterward. He had a big mop of jet black hair back then. Fantastic performance which I remember now, decades later.

Hello, is this valid for countries outside the USA?

Tony is a magnificent player who I got to see in Brooklyn many years ago (Prospect Park, June 2003, opening for the Derek Trucks Band). Unfortunately, thumbpicks and Scruggs rolls aren't directly relevant to those of us who play plectrum and tenor. That said, you can learn something from everything you hear, so it's still useful to listen to the five string.

I have the original Vega Vintage Star and it is my favorite banjo I own. it is light, loud and easy to play. not to mention it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye! the Cherry option sounds awesome and is a beauty as well. Deering makes great banjo's!

My strap is too thick and I can't get it through the bracket hooks. :(

It doesnt matter what the banjo is a professional will pull out the tone. Nothing special about the banjo. What you are seeing is good marketing.

A banjo made in the USA for a reasonable price! These are awesome instruments!

I have a Goodtime 2 and the crispness and projection surprises with only a hard maple pot and no tone ring. I love the tone, playability, and light weight. The minimalist looks appeal to me as well. I did change the 9's factory strings to quality 10's which made an improvement for sure.

I got mine 3 years ago and it's still just as perfect as the day I got it. Worth the price

Hey up. If i want to learn plectrum banjo and 5 string banjo should i just get a 5 string and play it like a 4 string when i want to and a 5 string when i want to or should i get both a 4 and 5 string banjo?
