    Thank you so, so much! Worked like a charm! For anyone reading, I have a Sienna 2009. Bought fob and key online. They sent me programming for fob instructions only, and when I called customer support, they told me key would have to be programmed by dealer. They were wrong, this did it!!

    This worked like a dream! My 2005 Sienna doesn't have the light you're supposed to watch for, but I just waited one minuted, and proceeded--it worked! The locksmith who cut my blank, by the way, warned me if it DIDN'T work, not to keep turning the new key on and off--a few tries of not working and it will go into major anti-theft mode and only being towed to the dealer can release it. Big bucks. As it is, I paid about $10 for two blanks, they were cut for total $3, I followed the steps exactly, and voilà I have two new working keys. They of course do both door and ignition. THANKS, GERMANPICKLE!

    If you got the new key copied from your worn key, it's not going to work any better than your original. The dealer will generally cut your key you provide for about $10-20 with proof you own the vehicle. That will give you a key cut to factory specs. You can do the same at a Locksmith

    • @germanpickle
      @germanpickle  Před 4 lety

      Good point. Use the key you use the least as the key to make a copy from. Dealerships in my area will not copy a key for anywhere that cheap , but they are the ones that will be able to provide a proper key, if needed

    • @wattvoltamp
      @wattvoltamp Před 4 lety

      @@germanpickle Here in Phoenix allot of dealerships will cut it for $10 as long as you provide the key and proof of ownership. They charge allot to program the key though. Most locksmiths including me will code cut a key for $5-$25

  • @123pathTube
    @123pathTube Před rokem

    He turned newly cut key to "on" position for the 60 second duration. So you have to cut key before programming or can we cut after we confirm programming worked?
    Others leave key inserted but not turned. What is correct method?
    Some leave driver door open, others close door sixth time and keep closed during the programming. ???

    • @germanpickle
      @germanpickle  Před rokem

      never tried it with uncut keys. I would suspect you need the key cut first as this is how I learned it.

    I want to do this for my 2005 Sienna. When I look on Amazon, some of the blank keys listed say :
    "This transponder key must be cut and programmed by a dealership or qualified locksmith."
    IS THAT FOR REAL--LIKE, WILL YOUR METHOD NOT WORK WITH THOSE BLANKS?

    • @germanpickle
      @germanpickle  Před 5 lety

      Those are the blanks I used. I took them to NAPA to have the keys cut. They warned me they wouldn't work. I told them thats fine I just wanted them to open the doors. then I went home and programmed them myself. you just need the correct key otherwise the programming will not work.

  • @bernicebehlke8408
    @bernicebehlke8408 Před 7 lety

    Question! I just picked up 4 keys from Amazon, dealer cut them, and I got 3 of them programmed perfectly. When I tried programming #4, it got to the flashing light portion of the sequence and it flashed twice then three times, then twice then three times, and kept on doing that. It never programmed that 4th key. The original and the 3 new copies are working. So, is there a limit as to the number of keys you can copy at a time? Can I try that 4th one tomorrow? I just don't want to risk messing something up by keeping on trying if there's a limit somewhere. THANKS for this video, saved me $85 per key, so $255 in my pocket!! I have a question for key fob programming also, but will go to that video and post it there.

    • @germanpickle
      @germanpickle  Před 7 lety

      Yes there is a limit to how many you can program. I don't recall what the limit is. I believe it was 5 keys but I'm not certain anymore. I sold my van a few months ago. If I recall there's a way to clear all keys from memory and reprogram from scratch. (Unless I have that mixed up with my current vehicle)

      I don't have the original key. How can I program the new key

    • @germanpickle
      @germanpickle  Před 7 lety

      if you have no key at all then you will need to have a key made by the dealer based on the serial number of the vehicle. they will need to do this to get the cut pattern. You may also need to tow the vehicle to the dealership for programming.
      having no key at all is a problem. If you have at least one working key this guide applies.

      Here is the instruction I got from another guy:
      1. Using a master key (original key), insert (and remove) it from the ignition 5 times. On the 5th time, leave it in the ignition, then:
      2. Open and close the driver's door 6 times.
      3. Remove the master key. The security light should now stay lit red.
      4. Insert the newly cut key. The security light should be blinking red; wait about 60 seconds until the light stops blinking and turns off.
      5. Remove the new key. Insert the old master key and start the engine and turn it off.
