- Anthony's Nan bought this car brand new in 1972. Today Anthony still takes Nan for drives & looks after this beautiful piece of Australian history.

My mate purchased new - a near identical XA GT - his had the optional rear spoiler as well - HA - then he went 'old & silly' and traded it in on a BIG square LTD - what a BIG mistake - HA - to this day - he still drags out the old pictures from the 70's and looks at that green GT he once had..
Great car Anthony, seen it in Forster/Tuncurry a couple of times. How good is that drivetrain, colour, trim combo. This or an XB GT would be my dream car, love the four doors. Nan is a smart lady, wish I still had Nans XR or XB - same goes for mums XC hardtop or 69 VF Hemi. 😆

I had one just like it. Exactly the same as the one I had except mine had a black spoiler and 12 slots. Er... and a Holley 850 double pumper, top loader and Detroit locker. Average fuel was 4mpg. What a BEAST.

My Dad owned a 72 XA Fairmont. 250 Engine. I was on my way into the bush driving it and as as I was about to cross a bridge their was a huge truck approaching. I obviously had the '' Right of way '' This prick raced me across the bridge and I just made it to safety within a second or 2 crossing the bridge. It was so close I ran off the road into a large ditch. The weight of the Fairmont handled it perfectly and I was able to steer out and get back on the road

@Frank. T if you look at a 69 mustang then look at xw xy you will see many things the same,xa was the first car fully designed and built in australia, xa first true aussie muscle car

MrOzgooner Front of the XB is definitely more aggresive looking than an XA. I mean look at the bonnet scoops on the XB GT and then look at an XA hood. Plus the XB grille design is aggro as compared to XA. They are both tough cars, but the XB has more aggresive design

@@orion5813 Each to their own. I always thought they got it right from XA and it got progressively worse. The XB has more than a passing resemblance to Mustangs of that era so it's not as original looking as the XA, in my opinion.

2010 FG XR50 Turbo (50th Anniversary)
I prefer AU falcon to FG-X the AU had better styling that the FG-X looked like 2 different designs they mashed together with no thought.

AU XR8s look great.. love my au2 XR8 Ute with the tickford bodykit.. they have aged very well and don't look like 20 year old vehicles and the XR front end looks mint. I agree with you

@Anthony Naughton Thanks man. My 1972 XAGT had a respray around 1980-81also no powersteer or left mirror done 96,000 miles.
I always loved the XA and XB coupes, but i actually like the 4 doors more now, strange how age does that lol
On the AU falcon, the VT/VX Commodores look quite dated now, they say a design that's instantly appealing dates more quickly. The AU falcon has grown into its own skin somewhat...
MCMLXXVI the interior has dated better too. It has dated way better than it's successor, the BA.

MCMLXXVI not sure about that. I really hated it. I think the first model looks the most iconic, but yeah I'm sure my eyes don't burn at the sight of it now.
The NC Fairlane looked stunning when new, and still looks stunning now, so not a hard and fast rule ;).

@@jamesfrench7299..True, i mean look at the F40, it was out of this world in 87 and it will look awesome when its 100yrs old, another ford i absolutely loved was the EB GT, i had the poster on my wall in high school and still love them to this day.

Mark Dillon Mate, resprayed for sure. Factory paint jobs in the 70s were almost semi gloss lol
@Anthony Naughton yes I thought so, I think they were an acrylic base coat an acrylic clear factory from memory an looked after the paint lasts for a long time. She is a credit to you an your nan an still looks awesome in her work clothes an that GT note is music, take care Mark

As good as ever this driver, who drives barefoot: I argue that only barefoot, he can accurately perceive the engine of the car. It 'something reserved for a few people.

Had 2 XA GTs, both Calypso Green. Both auto and one black trim one parchment.
And Falcon GTs have FOUR doors. Never 2 doors, they are butt ugly pieces of rust!!

We had these cars in our family. They are a shithouse car to say the very least. Why boot heads still buy them I can only imagine they never had one or they just plain stupid nostalgic duff's. Oh well what eva tiggles ya.
