Featuring in the L'Etape du Tour 2023, The Col de Joux Plane. The Joux Plane is the epic Tour de France Col and we are riding this famous climb from the Samoens side.
****************************
Over the next few minutes we will give you some inspiration and motivation to ride the Col de Joux Plane , one of the best road cycling climbs in the French Alps, and conqueor this Tour de France climb and educate you with some vital local knowledge so you can ride the Etape du Tour 2023 with no nasty surprises. The Joux Plane is where Lance Armstrong famously bonked in 2000.
If you have already climbed the Col de Joux Plane with us, please sit back and relive the stunning scenery road cycling in the Mont Blanc region and feel free to add any comments on what you enjoyed about the climb, and what you didn't!
The Col de Joux Plane premiered in the 1978 Tour de France and has feature no less than 12 times since. It was the scene of Floyd Landis' miracle ride on the St Jean de Maurienne to Morzine stage in 2006. Winners include Virenque, Pantani and more recently Izageras in 2016 when the Joux Plane was last used in the Tour de France.
The 2016 Etape du Tour also featured the Joux Plane. The road cycling climb was carnage. Did you ride that Etape? Do you remember it? Even early on in the day peolpe were already walking on the lower slopes in the furnace like heat. The Joux Plane features again in the 2023 Etape du Tour.
Today we ride from Samoens cycling to the summit of the Col de Joux Plane climbing nearly 1000M from the pretty town at the foot of the climb.
The Col de Joux Plane is usually classified a HC climb in the Tour de France. The climb is 11km at average 8.1%, maximum 13.8% to the summit at 1700M.
Here's the strava segment / strava
35 minutes for Romain Bardet, 55 minutes for me .... on a good day.
This is a cycling vlogumentary.
Our next featured climb of the French Alps will be the Tour de France 2018 and 2020 climb of Plateau des Glieres.

Another one of my favourites. Thanks Mike. (Oh and I remember that rain ! )
Great climb Mike
I remember the beers you bought us as we stood sheltering from the rain watching the Tour go by 🍻
Again, like the Romme, this is one that I could ride with every trip to France...and it helps having such great friends along! And I remember distinctly the clip from the 2016 Tour... Alaphilippe and Pantano came ROARING by with the peloton minutes back...and they looked FRESH! Youth.
Thanks for joining me on the Col de Joux Plane. If you are riding the 2023 Etape du Tour we have a specific playlist to help you along the route - click here. czcams.com/play/PLdtKW_WxwqQPulf99hAs1WXUvjBTMTrX-.html

Videos getting better mate, 'ramped up' in professionalism. Sound a bit off on the dub overs for some reason. Only trying to help as I know you were looking for comments!
