Aaron Carter sounds like a kid that's been abused and is deeply ashamed and trying to deny it happened like that will make the pain go away.
he don't look clean...
Aaron, has been abused, turned to substances, and his life is clearly out of control..
It is terribly sad. I hope someday he finds the strength and courage to seek the help that he needs..
I’ve heard and read articles about him recently where he’s trying to get clean, trying to face his demons. I don’t know when this exactly was filmed, but he is clearly struggling with something deeper then just “Lou Pearlman gave me/us a career, how dare you speak badly of him!”
Oh absolutely, I honestly feel to A.C. Pearlman was the only person he felt he could trust so much unnecessary drama in The Carter Household.
If he enjoys it is it still considered abused? Lol
Biggest takeaway from this documentary: SOMEONE PLEASE HELP AARON CARTER.
Truth! He must have been totally messed with.
I definitely think Aaron Carter needs to get off of social media and go somewhere to get his head straight.
This documentary should be about him.. i was confused if that was really him.
A. Cobb that dude is totally on drugs !!! He needs help
Lroy Johnson I don’t think he’s on drugs but he’s definitely dealing with a lot of demons. He needs go somewhere to get his head straight with no social media.
This was an excellent documentary. My hat is off to Lance Bass, AJ and everyone involved in this project. RIP Aaron Carter and Alan Gross.
Yes Rest in peace Alan Gross
Aaron Carter was a real troubled soul.
@@JohnClementJr That's because of Lou Aaron never recovered from what he did
@@mayflower7811 what did Lou do to him? I thought it was very odd how Aaron was the ONLY one to defend him when everyone else said different
@@daniellealexandra237 lou was basically his "father" figure. aaron was much closer to lou than the others because he was so young when he was working under him and lou is a CREEP who definitely made him do questionable things.. it seems aaron himself didnt come to terms or accept the abuse he endured. may aaron rest in peace.
Blood on his hands. RIP Aaron, abused in many ways by the adults who should have protected you since you were a young child.
He broke his baby mama's ribs. No excuse. Bye bye 👋
Yes, so sad how these children are exploited in so many ways, absolutely heartbreaking
I was just about to make this same comment. RIP
RIP
Ever since i saw this documentary for the first time and i saw Aaron Carter in that state, i was getting worried and i had the bad feeling that something would happen, and it tragically happened. RIP Aaron Carter 🖤🙏
The reason Lou was keeping them apart was because he didn't want BSB and Nsync to compare notes. The second that they did, it was over for Lou.
And to think he could have made much more money with them touring together like a super group
@@irethena And if he started giving the kids little solo acts? He had a moneymaking machine, and lost it just bcs of greed
I'm so glad they did that.
Orrrrr he was smart enough to create two brands which would drive revenue up dramatically for him
@@irethena Not necessarily. They would have to double the ticket prices to make the same amount of money, and that might have been too much for parents of their fans (who were paying for their kid's fandom).
he literally conned a whole generation making us think that BSB hated Nsync
Totally agree, the charity basketball game proved that NSYNC and BSB were friends.
Goes to show how much one person and one act can do complete damage.
😱
now think about how they use that same technic in politics.
He conned the actual boy bands to believe they hated each other
This documentary should have gotten an Emmy Award. Intricate, compelling. News worthy.
All the best Shaun
Read the tribes rule book: Talmud - “by way of deception”
Nah. It’s been the same for 1000s of years. Bull crap to the masses .
don't exaggerate
I'd known that *NSYNC were ripped off by a manager before but I'd never realized how extensive the greed really was - thank you Lance for bringing this to us
None of the bands deserved that.
i've never would have imagined that BSB and nsync were ony possible because of a ponzi scheme..
“Lance, you know what I wish the Easter bunny would leave in my basket... you”
Someone sent that card 20 years ago and now found out that Lance Bass’s mom has it
It was lou
Wow!
And that Lance is gay lol
😮
Am I the only one who feels bad for Alan Gross, the only childhood friend Lou Pearlman had? Alan's dream of working with blimps and airships was fully stolen by Lou, even though in all his childhood, Alan was the only kid who accepted Pearlman for who he was as a child. RIP Alan Gross
No you are not alone
100% agreed, very sad for Alan
100% with you on this. He was born taking advantage of those who trusted him.
N P Alan died? 🤯
Alan gross isn't dead
He definitely harmed Aaron Carter, and manipulated him. His biggest defender despite no rationale, and the most damaged of all the interviewees. It’s sad that Aaron passed. He was so vulnerable and I believe Lou took advantage of that and it’s prob the reason why Aaron got so messed up. It’s all horrible.
We know for a fact that he groomed Nick Carter. As for Aaron, the clues seem clear as day that Aaron had repressed memories of harm. And it's possible that Aaron gaslit himself into believing Lou was helping him and his career. Which he probably was, because Lou loved money. And he could only screw over hus artists, if they generated inc9me. But we have no actual evidence of Lou doing anything harmful to Aaron. Because whatever harmful things Lou might've done to Aaron, is only truly known between them. And Aaron only ever had great things and wonderful experiences to share about Lou. So if anything bad did happen, Aaron took it to the grave. It's possible that had Aaron lived longer, and gone through intensive therapy, maybe in his 40s, he might've had full clarity, and would've been able to publicly share his truth. But the problem is, Aaron was in denial. And the drugs and alcohol kept him in his own delusion that nothing bad ever happened. But you gotta ask yourself. Because nobody uses drugs and alcohol to go completely numb, if nothing bad ever happened to them.
Rewatching this post Aaron's passing, I'm still even more concerned that he held something in that he never shared. He was the youngest of all the people around Lou, he was definitely abused
The abuse likely went into his late teens. A lot of times, older kids start feeling like it was a mutual relationship, or even the instigator of the relationship. Like Stockholm syndrome. No way he wasn't molested.
@@matthewklahn3204 and worse his family relationship and environment was extremely toxic and abusive as well.
Nick didn’t want Ac to sign under lou and he told his mom why. His mom instead of believing her son accused Nick of being jealous of his younger brother! She brainwashed Aaron making him believe her lies. Aaron, Nick and the siblings suffered so much bc of their toxic parents. Tragic!
@@ma.karinacastillejo1196 where did you hear/see this info about Nick & his mom's conversation? I'd like to look into it.
Lmao if u say so
The way that Aaron Carter still talks like someone in their young teens and still defends Lou is incredibly sad, and clearly indicative of the grooming and manipulation that he underwent :(
Yeah because the way he got so mad and defensive over that tanning bed thing. I don't know what did or didn't happen but in my opinion, he feels shame about something.
Aaron definitely was groomed and possibly touched or physically abused by Lou. It's obvious by his behavior that something bad happened.
Aaron Carter needs to get help.
He was raped that's why
Aaron carter is a washed up junkie
Aaron saying his parents searched the tanning room in Pearlmans home for cameras is such a bizarre statement. As a parent, if I felt the need to do that it means I have already seen red flags. My child wouldn’t be there.
Yeah, that was such an obvious lie. If he was an actor, I'd say that that was what he was going for, to make the audience think he was lying. And that says so much. It made me feel very sorry for him.
Not really. u see camera all over his house n u go into the tanning room first thought would be, is there's camera in there?
When in doubt EXACTLY !
Stage parents make MANY compromises- Do you want a “Star” or a “safe” kid? It’s not obvious to some which is better.
I new him personally and his parents where very controlling
Now that Aaron Carter passed away, it's really disturbing to see Aaron in this video.
That’s actually the reason I came to watch this again. It’s so tragic and nobody can tell me Lou pearlman didn’t do anything to him
Yeah. Very sad. :(
@@skittlessunshine5518 I read this comment before I watched the video and kind of mentally scoffed, like "this person is blowing it out of proportion". But no, you did not exaggerate. He was clearly very traumatized, and that's so very sad to see...
Aaron probably shouldn't have had a bath in that state
the only person that never let Aaron down was his brother Nick. seems like everyone else let him down he was suffering infront of the whole world and nobody saw what was happening.
RIP Aaron. Gone far too soon and I say this as someone who hasn't cared about boy bands since I was 11. It makes sense why boy bands died quickly when these producers like Lou are no different to predatory politicians and bankers.
Now we have K-Pop which is probably even worse
I’m just stunned that not a single parent between both groups didn’t think to have an outside lawyer look at the contracts earlier on.
lapukas I would think maybe he was looking for kids with parents who wouldn’t check it out. Predators are like that.
lapukas It’s the same reason why people get lawyers off of television. How many regular, average people know to do that. Remember only 30 percent of people in the US have gone to college - when you have someone who is wealthy (and we are taught to believe wealthier people are smarter) and manipulate you, most people wouldn’t know any better.
mkbits agreed. Chris did say in the documentary that Lou was like a father to most of them so I think he preyed on boys from broken homes that would just be happy with being famous
I can't help but feel like there were parents who did and their children were passed over.
they all said he was a charmer. He was a master manipulator. Scary world we live in...Im sure they were all eager to get "rich and famous" on their children's behalf or should I say "huge" like pearlman said lol
I'm oddly happy that Lance Bass seems so down to earth and "normal". He survived the music industry.
Edit: changed "Hollywood" to "music industry".

Its crazy to hear the stories of the 90s-00s super stars like these boy bands, Britney Spears. How terrible they were treated and groomed to be taken advantage of at such a young age. And to think they are the icons of success in America. Envied by millions. Insane.
I agree, no one really understands the seedy underbelly the kids had to go through to get to the top. And when your at the top its even more awful and lonely, little to no one is genuine because they just want to talk to you because your famous, or want something. like a picture with you. Its so degrading and dehumanizing. You're never really free or can go anywhere to have a day off because people will mob you wherever you go, your existence is mostly one secure place to another. It all has a very heavy price that still to this day no one wants to talk about.
This is one of the most known and yet ignored facts about Hollywood.
It's still going on today!
All of us were. many did not become famous cuz of it. Go ask Alice
Show business is a dark place.
Watching this after Aaron has passed away brings a new meaning of sadness to those interviews, I don't know what happened to him beyond not being protected by his family but I hope he can find peace now

Whoa! As a 90's teen, I had NO clue all of that was going on behind the scenes. Good doc. Thx.

As a 90s boy I had no idea either lol it makes sense tho. All my gfs and their friends fracking loved these bands. Drove me to like Slayer and stuff.
American Greed did a story behind the owner a few years ago
b1g_ luke BSB’s black and blue album was named after the battle they went through with lou
I had a small background understanding that they sued him and he went to jail for tax/money stuff but damn I didn't know the rabbit hole went that deep.. Jesus no wonder the Carters turned to drugs between divorce/abuse and money issues with Lou and he probably even abused them himself 😔
The paper route scene cracked me up! How they spent all that time describing an amazing elborate business plan, then cut to "it's total bullshit" 😂😂😂

When they started talking about his lies after calling his story bullshit, it made me think about the way Trump talks.

I died. 😁😁😁 So great.
I feel like poor Aaron was abused by Lou and repressed the memories. The way he is adamant about there not being cameras in the tanning salon because he was in there naked as a child, just showed how much cognitive dissonance he was dealing with.
No offense to how Aaron Carter felt about Lou Pearlman and Rest In Peace Aaron, but Aaron was wrong about Lou Pearlman. Lou Pearlman was a pig, a thief, a scammer and a liar and Aaron was denial and didn’t want to believe the real truth about Lou Pearlman. What Lou Pearlman did to Nikki DeLoach when she was in her Girl Group Innosense was disgusting and wrong.
No kidding. If lou was such a great guy and all why did they feel compelled to search the room for cameras?
The fact that Aaron was the youngest on the labeled it made easy for Lou to brainwash the poor boy and Aaron never recovered from it
I think Lou really did a number on Aaron. Everyone is saying Lou did all these things and Aaron is still sticking up for him. I really hope Aaron gets the help he needs.
unfortunately he died today and it was actually his own father that did a number on him as he was physically abusive to Aaron.

Ok but, that was all out and discussed when they released the song... the whole album actually. They talked about the album title, some songs on it, the album cover and video imagery as representation of their battle and subsequent release from the dealings woth Lou and the label. My late sister did the same for BSB.
Aaron Carter DEFINITELY had an experience with Lou. You can tell by his reaction.
Janelle Ramirez absolutely
When he says his take on if Lou was a pedophile, that pause before he says “that is not true” sounds like for a second he wondered if he should answer differently. Then he goes into the diamond push up thing and that’s just, those have nothing to do with each other. That was a horrible example and anyone can be a predator, even if they teach you how to do better push ups even though they themselves don’t look like they ever did a day of exercise in their life.

I know. She's got that southern sweetness!
Was it just me or did her relationship w/ Lance seem strained?
@@MJ-sy6kz I think it's just you, because both often speak fondly of each other
M J not just you, I picked up on it too, their interaction seemed disingenuous to me. Lance seems lovely but his mother gives me a weird vibe.
It's funny how some senior Millennials like myself genuinely enjoyed all the music released by BSB and *NSYNC back in the day, ignoring the evil corporate machine Lou Pearlman was at the time.
Even when everyone suffered from his acts, I'm glad the music prevails and I'm personally thankful for having it all as the soundtrack of my late teen - early adult years.
Now the lyrics to songs such has "Tearin' Up My Heart" and "Bye, Bye, Bye" feel like they reflect how the boys felt about Pearlman.
I'm thankful that the music prevails, too. The music will live on forever more. Now we work towards protecting our artists.
When Lou was speaking to Alan about turning to violence when you don’t get something you want, he was definitely projecting.
The way Aaron Carter reacts to these questions makes me think that he’s in denial cuz something is clearly triggering him
Literally what I was thinking!

Lance Bass and his mom...precious. Absolutely precious.
I love their relationship
When people say 'I've made you/i found you in the gutter/you'd be nothing without me', it makes me livid. Top-tier manipulation. One can put millions into something/someone and there'd still be nothing if there's no talent, hard work and a lot of luck. So yeah, one can help and finance, but ultimately talented people do most of the work. They should be paid for. It also reminds me of manipulative parents, who'd try to guilt trip their kids by saying they have provided food and shelter for them, so they should be eternally grateful.
exactly!!! well said!
Been there, before.
i totally get when ppl r being manipulative and stuff, but i mean, how do you feel about that song without me by halsey? wld u say it like manipulative?
What a great documentary, the fact that this is free and anyone can watch it is amazing.
This Lance Bass guy comes across as a really intelligent & compassionate human being, Very encouraging in such a tale about greed, manipulation and need for power
*this Lance Bass guy"
Not THIS Lance Bass...THE Lance Bass. hahaha
I've seen interviews with him and his mom. They are wonderful people. She protects himm, even moreso now, after this guy.
ye
Yes he is a nice guy !! And GAY !!
Have you ever been conned either personally or professionally or financially. Watching this video really helps. You realise you are not alone. And that even intelligent people can believe in something that is not real. So glad I came across this
Thank you for making this documentary, Lance. I truly had no idea just how deep this went since I was only a kid in the 90s. I hope that this project was healing for everyone involved.
Best CZcams original doc I have ever watched.....Lance Bass needs to make a whole career out of making docs and telling stories! He is phenomenal at it!💖
so true!
Omg yes. I love him. Lance Bass is so talented!
The director Aaron kunkle did a great job
Scott Osterfeld I thought Lance Bass directed this but kudos to whomever did....they did a awesome job!
A C definitely
It is a tragedy that Phillip Seymour Hoffman isn’t around anymore to play this guy in a biopic.
Nor chris farley
Don't laugh...but Jm Gaffigan be a real creep. He would be perfect. I miss Philip Seymour Hoffman desperately. That is for sure. That was so tragic. But I do think Gaffigan would do it proud. He's just weird enough that he would make the guy slimy.
Holy crap I was thinking the same freaking thing.. woulda been a great movie no doubt... RIP PSH! Damn I miss that guy
John Candy.. Man, all of his actor clones are unfortunately, dead.
Brilliant idea. Thinking Danny Devito or that weird Post Office guy from Seinfeld could do in a pinch
If Philip Seymour Hoffman was alive, he would be a great actor to play Lou Pearlman.
This story is crazy! Lou pinned the bands against one another to keep them from coming together and talking about him....he prob knew that they would get along famously. The idea of competition against song artists is ridiculous. It's not like fans can't listen to both or all music. I personally never understood that. I remember being the only girl that like both bands and I couldn't understand why I had to choose a side.
It's called triangulation. A common tactic of manipulative people and abusers. I hope they can get along with each other now, the scumbag is out the way!
@@knowledgeisablessing8767 who knows but then again the mental damage does not go away.
@@knowledgeisablessing8767 they do, lance has a podcast and sometimes the members on backstreet are on it. even joked about touring together
I very much felt like Aaron’s defensiveness was him hiding something. It almost felt like he was trying to defend him so it doesn’t have to come to terms with something that may have happened between them. He really seems troubled.
Aaron probably has a history of touching weiners in shady situations
Paige Coats i agree
Listen to Corey Feldman.
Ohhhh hes had substance abuse and supposedly gotten clean but hes still messed up. He needs help. I dont know with what but hes been off for a while. Hes got major issues.
Thanks CPT Obvious.
Seing how Aaron defends Lou is pretty disturbing, everybody looks calm talking about their true and side of the history but Aaron looks so distress
I know, I feel like Lou may have molested him.
PrincessKLS I felt the same thing. Sad.
Definitely the link to his present day mental health issues and recent manic meltdown
Aaron is, without question, bipolar. It was quite frankly deeply and morally irresponsible for the filmmakers to even include him in the documentary to begin with.
yeah but he has a point in a way that without Lou .. non of them would of had the career an success they had ..Lou financed them you know how hard it is to get in the entertainment industry ? how much money you need to open doors ? this was a time before social media an all these singing shows .. an Aaron always tells it how it is .
I hope Aaron has found peace ❤ and I hope no other child star has to experience trauma like this again
You're dreamin'.
Bad contracts are so insidious and unfortunately very common in the entertainment industry. I remember when I found out that one of my favorite rock bands Chevelle revealed they were in a bad contract for years and made next to nothing just like these guys and were considering retirement. Apparently the label were playing hardball and didn't want to pay the band what they wanted and what they're worth. So because of some assholes insatiable greed and nonexistent moral code the world could be shorted of amazing music and art? That is so wrong to me. Imagine all the unsung songs, the unfilmed movies, undone paintings ect that only exist inside the hearts and souls of all the true artists out there who are working retail, fast food, factories, being office drones..
All real art is smothered by crushed dreams and these dreams are murdered by wealthy capitalists who only care about using artists for a stolen paycheck. Sad.
Beautifully said
My idea of heaven would be to have Lance Bass's mom talk to me all day in her soft southern accent
His mom is an ANGEL! I FELL IN LOVE WITH HER WHEN HE WAS ON DANCING WITH THE STARS!! 😩😩😩😩😍😍

@@bronminett4042 I know that's crazy
They made $10k in 3 years, if you had any job you probably made more than them
Aaron was so deeply in denial here. I’m convinced Pearlman abused him and Nick.
Am I the only person who didn’t believe Aaron when he said “shut up that’s foul”? he always came off as a victim to me…the drugs, the tats, the depression… he could never hide it
Aaron was the biggest victim of this video while he tried to defend lou
all handsome guys i've known who have neck tattoos admitted they were homosexually mol*sted as boys. it's their way of trying to look less "pretty" even if they are not consciously aware of it.
My heart breaks for Aaron. His mannerisms are indicative of somebody that was very seriously groomed from a very young age and shielded from ever needing to think for himself. His manner of speaking, his phrasing, everything he says is very clearly evasive. I have hoped for a long time now that Aaron is able to break free from this hold and truly find himself before his time here is up, and I'll continue to hope so. 🙏🏼💙💫
I think we need to be wary of reading into somebody's mannerisms too much and seeing what we already believe to be true. I don't think there's such a thing as the mannerisms of somebody who's been groomed. Though his body language does seem off to me, it could be for any number of reasons which may not at all be related to Lou Pearlman. If he was the one to do something wrong, that would be one thing but it just makes me uncomfortable that this whole comment section is reading so much into his behaviour, even though we all know that he's likely a victim.
Still an addict narcissist...
The fact that the majority of our society has a problematic attitude towards addiction and addicts themselves- of which is largely based off of misconceptions and ignorance- is and will continue to be what has the largest influence on why both the cycle of and stigma towards addiction continue. Narcissistic behavior is disgusting and needs addressing on both an individual level and a societal level, but due to the fact that it doesn't have such an extreme effect on the chemical makeup of the brain it can be addressed much easier and the habits that come as a result can be broken. Narcissistic behavior, while learned, can be changed. While it's one of many words that have started to get thrown around a lot and in many cases might not always be true, it is a negative character trait on a social level when looking at true cases. Addiction isn't an inherently negative trait, it's a difficult one. Addiction, being an oddity within one's chemical make up of their brain, should not be used to negatively classify someone. Call him a narcissist if you please, although I don't know that I'd agree just because I haven't followed him closely enough in recent years to confidently say one way or the other, but calling him an "addict narcissist" in a way meant to be a jab at who he is as a person is not it.
Omg yes

These documentaries should be shown in schools as cautionary tales. Even well educated people get conned b/c of greed. This is why "Social Skills and Common Sense Studies" should be a mandatory class throughout school and well into college. Sadly this explains why most performers are drug abusers. Excellent, informative doc. by Lance.
Greed, wanting to be famous and drug abuse are three separate paths that sometimes coexist, but I get your drift.
The lack of common Sense and critical thinking skills are why we have our moron and chief. So I agree.
May the Gods bless them. Or perhaps on the schools of Performing arts. That's where people are getting educated to go into that business.
Stavroula Kapetan Social skills, ok, but common sense cannot be taught. Either you have it, or you don’t.
I agree. This should be shown to teens. I already told my kids about the fuckery that happens in Hollywood.
Poor Aaron. I think because he was generally younger then the other victims he was more negatively affected. He was brainwashed and manipulated by all the adults in his life🙏🏼😢 I don’t think he knew who to believe and trust in. I’m not sure he ever had anyone who he could truly trust in. Or anyone who would fight for his emotional and physical well being as a child.
