- I share how I make my mother's easy recipe for oil and milk pie crust. No solid shortening, no cutting in lard or butter. Quick, delicious, flakey and forgiving! Be sure to see the PINNED comment with TIPS for more details.
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt (your preference)
1 TBSP sugar (optional for sweet pies)
1/2 cup veg oil (or oil of choice)
1/4 cup milk (I used 2% but any kind okay)*
Once mixed, the dough should be moist. If there is still flour at the bottom of the bowl or the pieces are dry and not blending well, add a bit more milk, 1 TBSP at a time until all the flour is picked up and your dough is moist (not wet!).
*You can substitue other liquids for the milk, almond milk, water, etc,
PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO!
As with bread recipes, humidity and type/brand of flour can make a difference in results, so if it seems a little dry, add a bit more of the milk/oil mixture (tsp/Tbsp) until the consistency rolls out beautifully.

87 years old made many pie crust . This is the best , easiest, most delicious pie crust I’ve ever made . Kudos !
Wow, Barbara! Thanks so much for the high praise. I just happen to agree with you! Feel free to share the video with your friends. They'll thank you for it!
This was my Nana's recipe. Delicious. I've never seen anyone else use these ingredients.
Glenn, I made the crust as directed, spread it with brown sugar and cinnamon, rolled it, brushed some butter on, and baked it.
So awesome. You can't fail with this 151 proof recipe!
Wow .Before your video, I could never make good pastry. I used all sorts of butter, lard, shortening etc. I had given up. And, I hardly ever have those things in my pantry , due to allergy. Then I tried your pastry recipe, and it came out perfect. Ty Gramma
Hooray! You're so walcome! Please share the video and recipe -- others will thank you!
I cannot wait to try this recipe out! My daughter is allergic to dairy and nuts, so excited to find a recipe that doesn't require butter! I'll substitute with our dairy free milk of choice. My daughter might be able to eat apple pie for the first time! 😍
Enjoy
I am watching this from Bangalore, India. Pies are a relatively new cuisine here and I have learnt general baking quite painstakingly. But looking at the videos showing how to make pie crusts “oh so perfectly” with such complicated skills had not given me the confidence to try them.
Your method is so honest and makes it look so easy, that I have decided to try this method.
Thank you very much for this video.
You are very welcome! I hope you enjoy the outcome of your efforts. If you do, please share the video and bless your friends with it! Thanks so much for visiting!
I'm going to try this. You make it look so easy.
Hi Sally! Be DARING! You can do it! Lol. Sometimes it needs a little extra liquid (water is fine) if the bottom of bowl seems very dry and all the flour is not mixed in (depends on humidity, type of flour, etc), but you only need to add a tiny bit at a time until all the flour mixes in when stirred. I hope you try it and love it!
It has been many years… so glad I found this site, this is my Mom’s recipe I had forgotten. Thank you!
Hi Ruth! You are so welcome! I'm so glad I could help you use Mom's recipe again. I just made an apple pie Friday night and we TOTALLY enjoyed it. I love the way that crust absorbs the apple syrupy goodness without getting gummy. YUM! Thanks for visiting. Please subscribe and watch for my other videos.

@@BanDanaGramma Video? That's laughable. Although my 1990 MiniCam still works perfectly, there is no way to attach it to my computer to upload! I don't use a smart phone either so I'm just a commentator for now.
@@momzilla9491 Understood. I thought you could just hit the share button above. Enjoy the pie crust!
@@momzilla9491 I believe the content creator is requesting that you share her video with friends/family who would then be able to try the recipe for themselves and become familiar with her content.

Great recipe, just like my mother used to make. I really enjoyed your video...well done!
thank you! I hope u try the recipe, please share the video with your friends, they will thank you!
TIPS/BAKING INFO: Measure carefully. I like to fluff my flour in its container first so it’s not packed down, then scoop, and then level off scoop with edge of butter knife.
As with other flour recipes you may need to adjust flour quantity depending on type/brand of four, humidity, etc., or if the bottom of the bowl seems a little dry, add 1 tbsp of milk or water at a time until dough holds together well and picks up crumbs.
For sweet pies, I also add 1 Tbsp SUGAR to the flour mix.
For savory pies, you can a touch of herbs to the mix, if desired.
Preheat oven to 425, once pie is in, reduce heat to 400 and bake until edges are golden brown and center is light golden brown, about 45-50 minutes.
I rarely prebake or "blind bake" my crusts, but if you choose to do so, line with double foil (hanging over edges), add weights of choice, and bake at 375 F for 25-30 minutes. Then raise temp to 425, add desired filling and bake approximately 20 minutes longer until edges are desired shade of light brown.
I've used the silicone mat here, but use two pieces of wax paper, upper and lower, on top of the mat or just on table, it's easier.
If you don't want to roll the crust out, you can actually just PAT it into the pie pan.
BanDana Gramma could I use melted shortening?
@@katiecauthen8957 Hi Katie! I've never tried melted shortening, but I don't see why not. Let me know how it turns out! My concern would be how warm it would be. Chilled ingredients make better crusts.
You are right Gramma... Two weeks ago when it was colder, no problem. Now there is humidity in the air
and I needed to add a lot more oil and milk! I put together a double batch, and now I'm letting it cool in the fridge.
Got to have those Cinnamon rolls!
Thanks so much!!! I really appreciate that 😀 nice to get advice from an expert ☺️ I am not great…. Trying to get better. Thanks again. Have a great day 😃
Hello there, thank you so much for sharing recipe. Hoping you and your family are safe. Your new friend from Puerto Rico
Welcome Wilma! How kind of you to leave me a sweet message. Blessings on you and yours for safety and happiness. With Love From BanDana Gramma ❤ PS, If you like this video, please share it! It really helps my channel and encourages me to keep going.
Thanks for posting this! Ive not seen a pie crust recipe w/milk, so I’m excited to try it. Saving time on cutting in the butter would be fab. U. Lous! BTW, coconut oil at room temperature delivers a superb and flaky crust while reducing the cutting in time. Instead of a 1:1 replacement for butter, I cut back the coconut oil by about 20 percent. That said, it isn’t as fast as your recipe.
That was easy enough ...my sister made an oil recipe for years... I do have that Tupperware pie thingy some where... bought it years ago... Hope I can find it.. Just found your video and did subscribe and liked and rung bell..
Thanks😃 I really like your laid back personality! And I can’t wait to try this! I’m actually wanting to learn how to make my own pot pit because I do not care for onions 🤪 this way I know what’s in there😃
You can do it! Thanks for your kind words. I hope to hear from you again.
Im gonna try this recipe today
Read tge tips, use fresh ingredients, and you will love it!

Love your blue pie plate. My Grandmother's crust uses crisco and vinager and has always been a family favorite. Even one of my uncles had her teach him when she went blind. I'll give yours a try next time I'm always ready to try something new.
I had no butter for my fruit pie, I tried with margarine, It didn't work so well and I just found this video and had all the ingredients. Thank you so much.

Hi Phoebe! You’re welcome 😊 It has become quite popular! Thank you for watching and commenting, and enjoy your pie crust! with love from BanDana Gramma ❤
If you ever do pie crust again, please show the shaping of the fluted edge in detail. Just talk about it in detail and spend about a minute on it. You might need someone to hold a camera close up or something. My mother never made pie crust and I never watched anyone do that in real life. I never try to do it. I just don't get it and I bet I'm not the only one. Now that I think about it, somebody's probably already made a CZcams video about it, but I'd love to see you do it.
I love your video
Thank you Shakeria. It seems to be very popular. Please share it with your friends now that pie baking season is coming up. They will thank you! Sending hugs with love from BanDana Gramma ❤
After watching this video my mom was like this is not gonna work. But i tried it myself and it came out perfectly. My mom was shocked. Thanks for the recipe♥️

This is my first time watching and I definitely subscribed. Your kitchen looks so lovely. Have you ever done any home and garden tours? I would love to see more!
Thank you Susan! I tour my gardens with camera from time to time. Sometimes they look glorious, sometimes they do NOT! My house? Truth: All the rooms are never tour worthy at the same time! Lol. If my kitchen looks great you can guess my office is a disaster, etc. Yesterday I cleaned my office. Now my kitchen is a mess!
Thanks, saved the day today for our apple pie, happy Christmas and greetings from Lithuania.
