Our frenchton eats cat poop. Because we have a lot of sand in our backyard, we do experience our share of the outside cat excrements. I regularly rake to expose and dispose before she sniffs it out. What does cat fesces do to a bostie GI track? Should I be worried?
Our first Boston was doing her business outside and I noticed her having difficulty defecating. I saw a string and pulled out a used tampon!!! Groooos! I could hardly believe that miraculously it had traversed her gut! Could have been serious! Yes, when Gabby left us, we grieved for about a year before realizing we couldn’t live without another one. Olive is now almost three and tampon free!
We switched Lucky’s food to one that is less processed and it significantly cut down on gas and the stench. We are NOT endorsing or promoting any dog products but switching to “freshpet” dog food really helped Lucky. Hope this helps!
My 8.5 year old Boston Terrier rescue does eat her poop if I don’t stop her. Her poop sometimes gets stuck and have to help her out. She has farts that can peel paint. She loves to eat dirt. Overall she’s such a happy little bundle of wiggles and doggie hugs. With her special diet she has had a lot less issues. Thank you for sharing all the information on Boston Terrier. Our family can relate to your observations especially since our Bailey and her six BT pups. Thank you for sharing but I wish to add their occasional snoring . Love Bostons!
ABout the stinky farts--I've found 2 things that help mine. And yes, they notoriously stink so bad they can clear a room--and mine have! (my brother nicknamed my older BT "mustard gas" So, bananas helps with the stench. Discovered this accidentally, but both my boys split a banana (small slices) every morning and it does help. The other thing that helps is a chicken, rice and veggie diet: veggies-carrots, peas, green beans (chop really fine or they may spit them out), broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes--steam and chop finely, mix in with the chicken and rice (boil the chicken, no spices of any kind), also canned, plain pumpkin mixed in--after a couple days, you'll notice a difference. At least it does with my boys (both bostons).
Missy used to love to eat her poop. When she was still young I asked the vet about it and he said not to worry about it. She never vomited it back up or was sick. The only way I stopped it was to pick it up right away. It was good training for me LOL. They sure are funny little dogs!

'Sausage poop' - when poop links are attached to each other by a long human hair. Have to tug gently so the hair doesn't break when removing links from the sausage grinder.
His “Klingons” which seem a lot more common than was with my boxers. My Boston does not go near the trash or used tissues, he’s quite the finicky eater.
Our eleven year old BT, Josie, lost her best friend and BT, Roxie the Rock star this year. While Roxie's gas could have been used as a weapon in wartime, Josie does not have this problem, thankfully! We contribute this to her Vet-suggested food which is highly digestible. When Josie used to eat Roxie's food after a visit, she could kick up some dust!
Hi Donnie. Bella and my Apollo share quite a few things in common. The most disgusting aspect is that my Apollo will consume cat feces. He also farts, but that’s common knowledge. Also, I’m a boxer, so I run literally every day. My Apollo will lick my legs (the sweat). Also, it’s funny, but when I’m shadow boxing in the garage and throwing punch combinations on my heavy bag, my Apollo will bark at me and come after me. He thinks I’m playing with him. Lol 😂. 7 out of 10 ! my boston's farts don't smell bad - she's on a lot of veggies and not too much meat though (be careful, they must not eat certain veggies).
Bostons terriers have gross things they do but you know they are the sweetest doggies every, i have 2, my older 1 is 10 months and my younger 1 is 5 months
LOL !!! My Boston sometimes has to have her poop "extracted" when we are going for a walk in the neighborhood.....we call them her "dingle berries" . It always seems to happen when I have forgotten to bring along a paper towel or kleenex....but when we finish our Boston is so happy that "zoomies" often follow and the people in passing cars smile and probably think our pup is crazy !!! We have had 4 Bostons during our married life and can't imagine life without one in our family. They are joyful, funny and so LOVEABLE and loving little dogs. BTs are the BEST !!!

I don’t know if it’s just part of growing up, but for a while there perhaps 6-12 months, my girl often didn’t have what you’d call a “clean cut” from the chute. Which means...that’s right.... I often had to wipe her date clean. Once she left a pebble on my lounge which a friend sat on and by the time we Kew what happened it was smeared in. Took a lot of bleach to get that out let me tell you and I still won’t sit there. Thankfully and mysteriously she grew out of it and now cuts clean and dry. BUT even to this day every time she comes inside after doing her work I do a date check just in case.
All dogs do these things!!😂 Hard to believe….but, they really aren’t people! My Boston is the smallest dog I have ever had but she makes up with fun !! Awesome breed!!!
Don't know if anything my Boston does is actually gross. Aside from her gas I love everything about her. My girl doesn't eat garbage or poop. she does try to lick my mouth for some reason and she tries to take the food out of my mouth.
My puppy mill rescue Boston eats her poo and my other Boston’s poo. I try to pick it up as soon a they go, but sometimes I miss one. Then she will vomit afterwards. OMG, poo vomit is so gross. I’ve tried everything to break her of it. Read everything on the internet I could find, but nothing is working. I’ll keep trying though, because nothing is worse than poo vomit 🤢
Your Boston is adorable!!! I have 2 right now. I’ve had 3 others in the past. Mine have always had THE WORST GAS! I’ve had them scoot them booty once in a blue moon. One I have now, will get underwear. I have one that had ate his own terds. One in the past, ate my sons terd out of his diaper. My first Boston ate cat poop. I don’t have a cat now. Mine eat their own puke too!!! Mine hair had the poop hanging in hair. It’s nasty!
I had a Ridgeback who wade 110 pounds I think this was his favorite things to do which I Me seems like he did it on purpose. The dog would be laying on the bed with me and my wife and suddenly he would love to sniff quietly get out of bed go out of the room by that time the smell hit you it was too late there was nothing you could do

My boss girl doesn't have opportunity to get in the garbage. She does poot up a storm and the smell can make a nose bleed. The worse thing I've seen her do is trying to get the food out of my mouth. She doesn't have a lot of bad habits. She's a lady.
Has anyone found a way to get your Boston to stop eating their own poop? I've tried everything and I can't seem to get ours to stop eating it! We have 2 Bostons and one of them never ate theirs until recently. Our our 1 boston taught the other, unfortunately :(.
I adopted a 10 month old Boston on May. I previously had a Frenchton. Before that I had a pit mix/billygoat. This Boston, Cody, eats everything!! I have never had to pull stuff out of a dog's butt like this guy!! It is so gross!! 🤢
Wow finally someone else who is familiar with a frenchton yay!!!!! Ours is a 8 1/2 mth brindle female, sooooooo cute love her to bits!!! Her only major grossness is the cat fesces eating, so far, so i consider myself very fortunate when I read other's!!! Thx for sharing!!
I've heard and read over the years that an animal eating poop of any other animal could be a sign they are missing nutrients in their diet. Eating their own is very disturbing too.
Mine only do some of those disgusting things! The one of where they vomit and re eat it! My previous boston used to eat my gfs dogs poop then puke it up ! So yeah that one is up there! Talking about bad smell wowsers!
I stopped my Boston from eating her own poop and set her on the couch while I cleaned it up. She vomited it up the poop on the couch and then started eating it... A few days later, I took her outside with my other dog, and she tried eating its poop as it was coming out of its bottom (of course I stopped her) So nasty. I guess she is just my little poop eater 🤷♀️
Charlie licks his private parts - ugghhh He’ll also eat bird seed dropped from the bird feeder...and God help the slug or worm that happens to cross his path - lol!!

Give them peanut butter and they don't like the smell in their poo and stop eating their own poo. My vet told me that and it work immediately.
I've had my boston for 72 hours and he sleeps with me....Not one fart yet...he's 8 weeks now so do they fast later down the road or did I get lucky?

I've had many different dogs in my life, my Boston is the only one with horrible farts. I've had salespeople leave it was so bad!
My Golden retriever does the same things except the farming. Just about everything else she does

His name is Papi, he’s a sweet adorable dog. My neighbor has a Yorkie and he humps her every chance he gets. He even tries to hump my moms cats
